Read: The title.

On an article related note, this IS pretty far away (sadface), however the fact that "EA is incurring significant development costs" for this game makes me very happy. High budget + BioWare + Star Wars universe = omg awesome.

I usually think MMOs are teh ghey, but I saw a trailer the Autodesk booth at the Game Developer's Conference kept showing, and it was AMAZING. The only MMO that I've considered buying.

I'm not shocked by an early 2011 release date. Kind of expected it. I doubt any new MMO would want to compete with WoW's new expansion in November or whenever it drops or against the launch of SC2.

Let's hope we have some breathing room between TOR and Diablo 3 because I don't see how I can play both at the same time plus whatever console games come out around that time.

It's a longer wait, but I'd rather wait and have it look spectacular than rush the thing.

It's probably good. MMO's take forever to develop, so that makes sense. Also, any MMO launching within 6 months of the release of Cataclysm is just asking for a beatdown failure. Summer next year or beyond allows for MMO players to work through the new Cataclysm content at their leisure and perhaps be ready for a new experience. Launching anywhere near WoW's relaunch would be suicidal for what looks to be a promising product.

I have a comment on this, but I've tried 10 times and all I get is the "Thank You! We'll send you an e-mail if you're a first-time user!" e-mail. Probably somehow getting blocked by the servers. The jist of my unseen post is that TOR being delayed is a good thing, allows more time to polish the game.

Rather, I get the "Thank you!" message, no e-mails actually get sent. >

It's not the release date that bugs me, but the announcement date. There was no need to announce it that early, and now you've got the effect of people losing interest. They should have announced it at E3 *this* year.

Is 1 month early of news really going to make or break your purchase of this game? I mean really, E3 is a month away.

I believe he means the announcement of the actual game which was about 30months ago. People are starting to lose interest after hearing yet another year to wait.

If it's not out this year, don't bother. WoW players (myself included) will be engulfed in Cataclysm this year, and won't be bothered to try anything else.

Next spring, the new shine will wear off, and people will be more willing to try a different game once they realize Cataclysm won't fix any issues they have with WoW.

I heard a rumor is that TOR was planned to be announced later, but when the EA President confirmed its existence in July'08, BioWare and LucasArts scrambled to do damage control on the rumor train by officially announcing it in October'08.

Meant to be a reply to Liam O'Connor. God joystiq's comment system is hating me today. Hit reply to him, it goes down to the comment box but doesn't put in his "replying to" thing. Oh but it'll let me reply to myself. Blah!

For something somewhat random.......

I wish for three things in this game....

1) I hope you can choose your race (almost a given... right?!)
2) I hope you aren't restricted to being Mandalorian if you pick Bounty Hunter
3) I hope Droid is a selectable race

Ah.... I love Droid Bounty Hunters.... IG-88 rocks!

"EA is incurring significant development costs for a major new massively multiplayer online game,"

Followed up with it won't be 2011... which to me indicates it will be 2010, not 2012.. but who knows.

Wow, what is the point of all the coverage on a game that is over a year out? Wow, that's just asinine.

If any of you bothered to read the article, this pretty much changes nothing. The lead writer said "spring next year"..it's going to shoot between April and June of next year. Which is Spring/Summer. Also, there was a lack of confirmation on this theory. But good connecting the dots, i suppose

To be expected. It's Bioware, they don't make small or mediocre games. They make HUGE games, and very deep. Even though we've seen the gameplay and classes for sometime, I'm sure they are spending a ton of time on story, based on their track record.

Even though this is frustrating for fans, this is a good sign. Especially since it's a joining of Lucasarts, which hasn't had a great product in a while, I almost expected it to be quik release crap, but it looks like Bioware is driving this ship. And with a big money producer like EA to fund the development, it should be worth the wait.
