Why would he be sarcastic? And they say Mac users are "elitist".

thanks!

maybe i'll finally finish playing Portal, i have the orange box for ps3 but i only got to around test chamber 18 and then i got stuck. Hopefully they'll bring over Left 4 Dead, it's the only game on the 360 that I really want to play.

Yes, congratulations us.

Congratulations on a whole two games being available for the service.

Congratulations on waiting weeks, months, years more for titles I've already been waiting years for.

Don't get me wrong. I love the thought, but this is like promising food to a starving man then giving him a ketchup packet.

Yes, but now that Steam is rolled out on Mac you'll end up with faster support on games. I'm sure given a little time you'll have some nice availability.

I'll be able to play Torchlight without rebooting? I better inform everybody now that I'm going to disappear for a few days.

Does this mean my copy of Torchlight that I bought from steam will run on MacOS natively? Because that would be hot.

i think that is what this means. i bought torchlight on my fiancee's compy while it was on sale for $5 hoping that it would be one of the titles ported to steam for mac... looks like it paid off!

Yes it does. And since it uses Steam Cloud you'll be able to play on PC and have your progress carry over to the Mac and vise versa.

I thought they were releasing every Valve game?
I was hoping for The Complete Valve pack to have a special promotional price for early Steam Mac gamers.

I'm curious (and didn't see in the article above, which I gave a quick re-scan to be sure) as to whether or not cloud saves will carry over; particularly vis a vis Torchlight, which I was previously running via Crossover and Steam.

Significantly less exciting than I was hoping, what with only two games available. I would think once you have a working Source engine game (Portal), then every other game that uses the Source engine would be fairly simple to port over along with it (bearing in mind I know that each game uses a different version of the Source engine).

As for the GoldSource engine, it's already capable of OpenGL rendering. Not being too knowledgeable about what is entirely entailed in getting a game running on Mac, I'll admit I'm not sure if that's as solid a thing as it sounds. But considering my only Mac right now has a fairly puny 9400m GPU, it's older games like those that I'm really excited for. I want to play through the Half-Life saga again on my Mac.

Soo, 40ish games, out of the over 1100 titles on Steam.

Guess we need to keep that duelbooting option.

Duelbooting?

Is that where the two challengers kick each other in the a** until one gives up?

Anyone know if I need to re-buy torchlight if I already own it on Windows. That is kind of a deal breaker

You do not. That's the whole point of the 'Steam Play' feature that the article talks about.

Can't wait til I'll be able to get Plants vs. Zombies. Somebody bought it for me back when I had a PC but I haven't been able to play it for about a year.

Wish there were more options for the first day, but something is better than nothing, I guess.

Maybe I missed it here, but I thought I'd heard before that Portal was going to be free? Did I misunderstand that?

So does this mean that Windows users will be able to play with/against Mac users in multiplayer games (ie. Team Fortress 2) or will we be separated into different servers for each OS?

Just because they've only mentioned 2 games, doesn't mean that's all that will be available tomorrow. In fact they even say "Among the initial titles available on Wednesday will be ...Torchlight".

Sweet, I've been looking at Torchlight for some time.

Even if there are only a few launch titles, I'm sure the service will open up soon enough. The 360 will remain my primary gaming machine, but it's always nice to have other options.

The article announcing the release was up and then mysteriously disapeareed. I was able to download the beta client and start it up. It seems like the only game I can download is Portal, but I keep clicking the link and nothing happens.
