While the announcement of new DLC and a new mode for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was good news to many, it was perplexing to PC owners. See, the new Onslaught mode has only been announced for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Speaking on the Bad Company 2 forums, DICE associate producer Barrie Tingle explains why Onslaught is seemingly skipping the PC. "The problem we have on PC," says Tingle, "is that all our servers are dedicated with providers." As a result, Tingle says that changing a 32-player Conquest server into a 4-player Onslaught server adds up to a net loss of 28 player slots.
He adds that DICE isn't "ruling out" the possibility of PC Onslaught, but the company is "researching how to bring it to PC without affecting players who don't have Onslaught or their own server to run it on." When reached for comment by Joystiq on the subject, an EA representative responded, simply, "We'll have more details about PC DLC at a later date."
If only there were an awesome military shooter we could play while we wait ....

You are mistaken. Killzone 2 is not the military shooter everyone can play while they wait.
The one you're looking for is called Team Fortress 2. ;)

They could always open it up so anyone could host an unranked server, or at least an Onslaught server.

So... One of the big selling points for BC2 is ultimately the reason they aren't getting this dlc?
Damn when are you pc players going to get a break?

I'm not suprised, since corps are all about that net loss and net gain. They need to take a note from the gamers messiah known as VALVe and think about customers first and worry about making money second. It usually turns out best for everyone (that isn't a sonovabitch corporate sausage head).

Could simple use the Squad Rush servers since those only use 8 slots.

I've been playing BF2 recently, coming right off of a spurt of MW2. I have to say I'm not liking some aspects of server-based gameplay that didn't really bother me before I got into MW2, like the ridiculous rules some servers impose on players (on one server, no flying over enemy-held bases), or the custom rules they create, like infantry only or whatever.
At least with peer to peer based online play, you don't have to deal with stupid stuff like that.

That is the thing about server based gameplay. There are good servers and bad servers. The nice thing is that you can pick which one you want to join, with "matchmaking" style non-dedicated you can't really choose who you're going to play with.
I do tend to stay away from servers with stupid rules imposed on them though. There are more than enough out there.

True, but I like the convenience of not having to sort through all the bad servers to find the few good ones.

Yeah I can't really see any reason not to put it on the PC. There are plenty of squad rush servers out there already. Hell, I'm sure plenty of people would be wiling to run a 4 player server for the mode.
That being said can't say i'm too excited about this feature.

Meh, I don't really care too much about this game mode to be honest. Much rather just play against my friends than the AI.

... I don't really have anything to add, just felt like making note that his last name is Tingle.

How about the bastards explain why I drank all that Dr, Pepper only end up with really dark urine and no benefit of the SPECACT DLC for FREE like the 360 users?

What the hell?! I bought BFBC2 for PC entirely for the benefits that the PC version should be getting. Now I'm missing out on Dr Pepper DLC and a co-op mode. I'm not usually one to get so irritated with these kinds of things, but this is too much for a game I love and a developer I have respect for.
Perhaps they could make Onslaught a peer-2-peer thing. I mean, normally that would be something to argue against, but I think there's an exception when it's only 4 players in a co-op mode. They're probably too lazy to whip up some new network code for that though. I don't blame them, but I hope that someone over there takes it into consideration...
DICE, if I don't see my Dr Pepper codes put to good use and a co-op mode in my game by the end of this year, I will kill a panda for every day that it isn't there.

Yeah ok Dice, cause doing what Valve did with LFD is so hard. Next thing there gonna tell us is BF3 is going to come out on consoles.

Although the PC version of BFBC2 uses dedicated servers, they have not publicly released the client. Only hosting companies are allowed to operate the hosting clients which in turn are rented by clans and player groups. It's worked pretty well so far and gives players stable servers. But at the same time, does not give the openness that players had in say, Battlefield 2, where players can operate the servers themselves along with the hosting companies.
Players don't really need any new incentives to set up servers that offer less. If DICE had a public dedicated server client available with this mode, the player base would have this up in no time.
I hope DICE someday releases the dedicated server client in the future and some modding tools. Then it'll reach the pantheon of Shooters That Just Won't Die up along with QuakeWorld, TFC, Counter-Strike, BF1942, and BF2.

I'm hugely on the side of server browsers. For competitive games. So I can pop in for a few rounds and have some fun.
However 4 player co-op? Thats definitely a matchmaking thing. When it comes to 4-player co-op, you either just play with your friends, or you don't care which strangers you play with.
No one even really has a lag advantage.
