I say do it Zipper, MAG is a great game if the extra income provided by charging for DLC is needed to continue to make more content then so be it....though 12.99 for 1 new map (technically 3) is a bit steep. The last couple DLCs have been free anyways.

Yeah I think the price is too high, but it would make for nice content.

Unless I'm reading it wrong, isn't it actually a mode pack, adding features to the game rather than simply a map pack?

If said mode includes 3 maps, one on each clan's area then to me 12.99 is fine. Have to remember the size of the maps. If they are the size of the all out war fest's that I loved so much then I'll drop my money the first day its released.

The price seems reasonable but if they do make another character slot available I think it should be flat one time rate not subscription based.

From the forums:

I would be willing to place a significant wager that most of the "DLC" coming down the pipe in the near future is ALREADY ON THE DISC, "new maps" included. The assets that we have all seen already would easily fit on a single DVD, if not half of one. I'm not saying that any developer is required to fill a Blu-Ray to make a decent game, but honestly, the playable assets themselves, as they currently stand, are somewhat meager.

My point is that I think, no matter how much you love MAG (I'm pretty addicted, personally), people should stop being so willing to pay for "DLC." It will likely be "U(nlockable)C." Also, I have a friend who is a producer at Capcom, and he gave me confirmation of what many of us already know/suspect, that companies do put "fake" bulk data into "DLC" to hide the fact that it is really just an unlock. I'm not accusing Zipper of doing this; MAG is my first Zipper game. I'm just saying that just because any eventual "DLC" comes with a significant download doesn't mean it's not just an unlock.

And of course, keep in mind that the "DLC" we've had so far has just been unlocks, and account-restricted unlocks at that. Also, the survey mentions an extra $0.99 a month for an extra character slot. It seems to me that the character "selection" screen is already formatted to allow at least two, and maybe three, character profiles. On that basis, for a while, I thought that once you vetted it meant that you got to keep your level 60 guy and start a fresh guy on another faction. Alas, that is not the case.

Someone has mentioned before that they have a similar belief, that there is a ton of content already on the disc, and part of Zipper's strategy is to unlock it over time over the lifespan of the game. This wouldn't surprise me, and I don't necessarily have a problem with it, provided I am not charged for it. I paid my $60, thank you very much (if I were getting it now for $30, I might feel a bit more forgiving).

C'mon folks, I know MAG is a great game, with a lot of potential, despite its flaws. But don't be so willing to be nickel and dimed for stuff that's already on your disc. What this survey is doing is trying to find out if they can get away with charging you for something already planned and prepared, not whether or not there would be a market that would be worth them putting extra resources into creating something additional to sell. At some point, I'm sure Zipper could add something that would be worth paying more for (fracturing of player base notwithstanding), but I don't believe that point has yet been reached.

Your welcome! :D

I'd be on the fence for the $0.99 cent/month for a extra slot but unlikely I'd buy it. New content for $8.99 is definitely nicer than $14.99 map packs.

I'd say if they add a new mode, it needs to be a free for all between all three PMC's at once. The other issue with a new mode is whether or not they'd put in the contracts for it. If they didn't many people wouldn't see a reason to play it, if they did it'd be a bit unfair for people who didn't pay for the DLC to get penalized (or rewarded) for the efforts of other people who did pay for it. To have to pay for a new mode that could affect everything would be a lose-lose for the community as a whole.

However, the extra slot would be great, I was very disappointed when I saw I could only have one character when I first got the game.

I get the appeal of listening to custom soundtracks in single player games (especially ones with licensed soundtracks), but why an online MP game? Doesn't it take away from your ability to hear what's going on in the game?

I'm genuinely asking, btw, not criticizing in the slightest. I just don't do custom soundtracks much, save when I'm forging in Halo 3 or playing Burnout Paradise.

really?? I would never use it in Single player of some games because it would take away from the the feeling they want you to have....but Multiplayer is where it is needed....it doesn't distract me or keep me from hearing anything in the games I use it in....can still hear all the sounds online just fine...

I'm the opposite of you Granger. I like to listen to my music when i'm playing online because usually there isn't a soundtrack to begin with. That and music gets my adrenaline rolling.

I've never really tried it in a multiplayer game that requires any sort of strategy personally. Usually I'm talking with people and trying to discern if there is someone behind me. Interesting, I guess I figured it will overpower the ambient noise in some games, but I must have guessed wrong.

I really don't do it in Single Player either, I'm one of those purists too that not only appreciates a great video game score, but tries to play a game the way the developer intended. Just when a game has a licensed soundtrack that's awful (Burnout series) or when you get sick of hearing the same songs after a while (GTA series), I tend to go the custom soundtrack route.

in KZ2 and warhawk, it was fine to use custom soundtracks since the ambient noise wasn't too important (sniping in KZ2 didn't need any sound awareness and in warhawk, you tend to get other signs that you're in trouble before you hear it). in a game like MW2, yeah it would mess you up pretty bad since ambient noise is a lot more important.

A monthly fee for something that should have been added from the start ? I dont think so - monthly fees are not the way to go thats an absolutely terrible idea... I would pay a fiver to have the ability to have 3 new pmc slots that would be perfect that way I could have 1 in each faction, but I would in no way pay a monthly subscription for that ability, thats just stuped

I hit lvl60 and switched to valor and boy do they suck, I really wish at lvl 60 a new character slot would have opened up auto and after maxing that slot you could open another one, but anyway.

As for the new game mode again a fiver yeah sure I would pay that. 12.99 ? No thanks, I think they are getting a little greedy here.

If your adding 9 new maps and bringing in a new game mode sure I would pay 12.99 for that

I concur. It's like Zipper has given up on MAG. It's just not as supported or used as I had hoped it to be. I still spend more time in Uncharted 2 online just because I want to hop into an active game. Shame though, the tech behind it is so excellent.

MAG needs new maps. Only problem with paid for maps is that only those that paid get to play them. This means you are dividing your current user rate among two different types of game. This means less players to fill slots for the 'free' modes, and less players for the 'paid' modes, making longer waits in queues for everyone.

The biggest issue I see with MAG is that it is an MMO without a monthly subscription, so everyone isn't all on the same page when you start releasing new content. If you want players to keep playing, you need to constantly release new content. This requires a revenue stream, which means subscriptions.

Great game though.

The extra slot should have been there from the start, after you reach veteran status the first time, you should have automatically been able to have slots 2 & 3 open up, allowing you to save your character eventually having a soldier in each of the three factions. That way depending on how many of each are playing in a give night you could find a game.

Then have some form of DLC say a monthly/bi-monthly release for a reasonable fee $6-$9.99 of new content, maps, modes etc at least change layout locations to keep variety. They could add more basic vehicles, buildings etc

I said it once in their forum and I'll say it here. Additional weaponry and armor for free and I'll gladly pay for Map Packs.
I've stopped playing for awhile I'll admit but after playing so many of the same maps over and over again does get tiring especially when your playing with so many that still don't understand the game at the later levels. I hope if they do have a map pack they'll have some free DLC of weapon's/armor to so as to lure back those that have strayed from the game like myself. One negative of the game was the lack of weapon choice's over MW2.

Think I may pick up the game tomorrow night again and start playing.

Also those saying they won't pay... have to remember how many people bought MW2 map packs.. people will buy 'em maybe not you but alot of people will (sure not on the scale of MW2 but maybe half and that is a decent chunk of change right there).

Yeah, it's all multiplayer and no story. The training is garbage and so is the manual. It is a little overwhelming at first but it's a pretty fun game overall. Find a clan because this is one of the few multiplayer games where being in a clan makes the game much more enjoyable.

Okay.. new mode? That's intellectual property, you probably had to work to conceive rules, implement UI changes, and make maps. I can understand 9.99

But new character slot? That's a few killobytes of space and a change in code. I'm not going to 'rent' that when you're willing to sell an entire mode of play for a flat rate.

The problem is that Zipper wants you to only have one character slot but there is a minority of players that really want a second one. So, the point of charging for it isn't for Zipper to make tons of money, it's to keep players that don't really care about a second slot from making a second slot and therefore stick to Zippers design.

MAG was good when I was on SVER, but then i tried the other 2 factions and was almost always at the top of a losing team by a LARGE margin...it's kinda lame when almost the entire population of 2 of the 3 factions fails to comprehend the game...too many people too proud of going 47 kills and 2 deaths when they just got steamrolled in record-breaking fashion..,.yeah, great kill-to-death ratio, but you STILL got CRUSHED because you don't know how to play...on SVER, I had 47 WINS to 2 LOSSES

I don't like The idea of playing for sver one game and the next, playing for valor.
How about this: if you veteran to another pmc that you ready got to 60, how about keeping your original lv? That'd be okay in my book.
If they do plan on adding subscription fees, all new "maps" and game types should be free.

Also, everyone, tell ur friends to quit hiding in a corner launching preadator missles in MW2, and get MAG. we need more ppl for he Shadow War and thousands are sleeping on a good ass game!

I can play all day and night without getting dc'd once. Not sure what your problem with other than your ISP if u cant stay connected to play a game. It's not MAG connection issues are fixed. It's your ISP.

Now for paying $12.99 for a new mode and 3 maps eh... no thanks. As for maybe $8.99 yea possibly but definately aint paying $12.99. My only gripe about it is the harder to find a que in this game if said is done with a relased paid DLC. Getting to find people is gonna be like domination mode in the closed beta. Took u like 45mins to launch ONE game. Not sutiable for a game like MAG. IMO.
