To put it lightly, George Romero hasn't had the best of luck in recent years. His past few films haven't been that great, and the last game he had his name slapped on a game (2005's Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler's Green), wasn't received well. We say this because his name is being slapped onto another game: App of the Dead, coming to iPhone and iPod Touch.
Developed by Additive Games, this tie-in to Romero's latest movie, Survival of the Dead (which you can actually rent right now on Amazon) offers a "unique first person shooter mechanic to lay waste to your zombified pals and loved ones." It lets you save photos of your friends and family so that you can kill them in a zombie game. That should add an interesting dynamic to the next family get-together, eh?
There's currently no timeframe for release, price, nor are there any screens or video to go on right now. With Survival of the Dead opening in theaters on May 28, we're willing to bet it'll be available for download soon. We'll keep you posted.

Yeah, Romero has been banking off the "of The Dead" franchise, with no good results, for over 20 years now. Sad, really.

Yeah well it's hard to give up at what you're good at and even harder to improve on the perfection of Night and Dawn of the Dead. I think it's great as long as Romero himself stays involved. Besides, this app (as useless as it is) sounds interesting and could be fun. I just wish it were coming to Android too.

I saw the movie for the first time in my English class a month ago.

Yeah, one of the few films where the remake is actually kinda better. It's a classic and all, but aside from the race microcosm being played out by the two male leads, the film has not aged well.
Michael J Nelson's audio commentary on one of the DVD releases is brilliant though.

Blasphemy!! The original is still great! The acting is pretty strong compared to most modern horror films and the it's just fun to watch in general. The remake has much weaker acting, but better gore effects. Which is more important to you?
But either way, Dawn 1978 is a better film overall...

I loved dawn and Day back in the.....day. The remake was pretty good by that...guy. So when Land of the Dead came out, I went to the movies to see it.
I was the only one there.

This is exactly the sort of thing that they were blaming school shootings on, ten years ago

As a Romero devotee, I will buy this, regardless of quality.

Hey those of you who can use the XBL marketplace to watch videos, the survival of the dead movie has been available to rent since the end of april. It doesn't even open until the end of this month, so if you're interested you can see it early.
Tell me if it's awesome.

I actually love both Night of the Living Dead movies. Strangely enough, I have only seen the remake of Dawn. Land sucks. Diary of the Dead is probably my favorite zombie movie ever. Survival was pretty awful...
