Speaking to the Financial Times (registration required) Capcom president Haruhiro Tsujimoto declared that the success of Microsoft and Sony's upcoming Natal and Move motion controllers depends on sound planning. "If there isn't a strong business model message from the platform holders about how they will develop [motion controllers] with users," said Tsujimoto, "then I don't think it will go well." In other words, Tsujimoto places the onus of success on the manufacturers of the motion controllers, and not necessarily on the games that will be created for them.
Tsujimoto also took time to reiterate Capcom's stance on overseas game developers, noting that the company will use them for sequels to established products. Regarding E3, Tsujimoto discussed a shift in the gaming industry toward downloadable titles, devices like the iPad and social networks. He added that Capcom will be heavily pursuing downloadable titles, the iPad and Facebook.
As for the likely star of Nintendo's E3 showings, the 3DS, Tsujimoto said he is "interested" to see what the device does "apart from 3D."

Anyone else get the feeling E3 is going to be lame this year?
Hell, barring some Vitality Sensor hilarity, I think Nintendo actually has a chance of having the best conference this year.

I actually get the feeling it's going to be one of, if not the absolute best E3s.
What do we have so far this fall? Reach, LittleBigPlanet 2, and Fable III . . . Everyone's playing first party titles close to their chest, and they'll all be showing at least one huge surprise game, and that's not even including the probable Zelda reveal we all know is coming. We're going to finally get dates on The Last Guardian and GT5, we're going to see what Rare's been working on, and Nintendo will have at least one other core franchise title to showcase for Wii, and it will be their NSMBWii counterpart that pretty much takes us by storm and releases this fall, my guess and hope is Pikmin (Zelda? I think that's a 2011 release personally).
3DS, Natal, and Move will probably cannibalize the other coverage, but I still think the first party software reveals alone will really make an impact that captures the new-hardware-naysayers attention more than the new hardware itself.

3DS and Zelda, this is likely Nintendo's year, unless someone else pulls out something truly surprising (and though 3DS and Zelda are known, they are largely unknown. They could arrive in any form, and therefore still have the shock value that's so critical to taking E3)

E3 is always good for laughs.
I'm sure Natal will be every bit as embarrassing as You're In The Movies at E3 2008. Microsoft always has this combination of awkwardness and smugness that makes every attempt by them to "look cool to the common consumer" ridiculous.

you say every year is nintendos year mr. khan. lol. I don't think Zelda and 3Ds are enough to claim this a victory for them before the conference even starts. I could see MS easily winning this E3 with some big time Natal reveals. I'm not saying Nintendo won't win but it's going to take much more than a new ds and a new zelda.

foetoid,
the wii is not something all gamers must own to avoid "missing out". I don't think anyone seriously considers the wii to be like the 360 or PS3 beyond the very broad category of gaming machines that connect to a television.
It's for you, but it's not for me. I think Nintendo has found itself a new niche, and I'm outside it, but more power to them.

I think the word "niche" means a habitat or activity that some thing is suited for.
For example, the wii is suited for group gaming and casual gaming and maybe fitness gaming. This niche is different than the Gamecube or N64's.
Oh well, I'm probably arguing below my weight class to even respond to this.

I imagine 3D is only the window dressing for whatever the device can really do. When Nintendo originally unveiled the DS, they simply showed it as a device with dual screens, leaving out that oh-so-critical touchscreen functionality.
Something similar is probably happening here.

Just 3D and analog control are confirmed so far, right? Was accelerometer confirmed? (bit of a no-brainer).
boring guesses:
- at least better-than-PSP graphics
- support for recent wireless standards (hopefully, even when emulating DS games, but don't bet on it)
- larger quantity of flash RAM to store downloaded games
less boring guesses:
- stereo 3D camera (either front-facing for motion tracking or else just for taking silly 3d pictures of your friends).
- virtual handheld: DS games available for digital download along with GBA, GBC etc; other handhelds (finally, a way to play California Games without an Atari Lynx) announced later.
not very likely guesses:
- nintendo gets rid of friend codes, announces special 'groom mode' feature where you can automatically search for vulnerable 10-year-olds to chat with

I'm thinking the stylus will rumble when it moves over certain things on the screen, kinda like how the wiimote does when you move the pointer over buttons onscreen.
The 3D image plus the tactile feedback in the stylus would be pretty good at providing a new experience. Especially in japan with all those touching date sims..

Okay, so the president of Capcom says he's interested in seeing what the 3DS is about? Only interested? As in one of the biggest publishers have nothing planned? Augh so its going to be a long wait for games like DS was in the beginning it seems :(

There's a reason 3rd parties have a hard time with Nintendo, and it's not the third party's fault. Nintendo has a corporate culture that has ranged from nearly hostile to simple disinterest in 3rd party success. It is a short sighted plan, and it's why the wii is fundamentally not as dynamic as it ought to be.
Nintendo's strength is in its 1st party work. Capcom is not going to make or break any of their stuff.

Does anyone else think it sounds like he's trying to push off any fault for whether capcom's motion games suck to Nintentdo Sony and MS?
Also If they're going to keep pushing the same copy protection scheme with the rest of their downloadable games that they did with Final fight I dont think I'll be buying any more of them because it's too intrusive for console gaming to force a stable connection just to play Bionic Commando 2.

What exactly does 3D do besides act gimmicky and take our money? Would The Dark Knight of been a better film in 3D? Ocarina of Time is till one of the best games I ever played and it had jaggies and polygons.

of course the dark knight would be better in 3-d ... duh. if something is already awesome it can only be improved by 3-d (see avatar) ... if something blows then it's going to suck just as hard in 3-d.

I am so sick of people freaking out about 3D. They *always* use the term gimmick, like they can't think for themselves.
I've never seen anything like it. If you don't like 3D, then you should be absolutely delighted by it, because it's making 2D stuff very cheap. You win!
And the idea that 3D is a gimmick for video games is patently absurd. I don't even think you folks understand what the word gimmick means. When you play a game, YOU are the mental state of the player. Anything that immerses you into the player's sense of speed, distance, direction, fear of objects approaching... anything like that is a direct enhancement to your immersion. It cannot be a gimmick unless it actually fails to work well enough to convey those aspects.
I don't know if Nintendo's stuff works, but they saw the PS3 3D demo of GT5 and immediately went to the drawing board because the PS3 3D demo of GT5 is SCARY it's so immersive.
3D in concept cannot be a gimmick in gaming. In practice is can fail and be tacked on... that's up to the devs, but the concept itself is a major advancement. It's enough to cause GT5 to be delayed a full additional year onto the already late deployment, and I ask everyone who doubts the potential to find a friend or store that has a GT5 demo (in the near future) and give it a whirl.

First of all even though it's a different industry let me mention Clash of the Titans. Thank you. Secondly let me say that I am allowed to have an opinion, however I failed to illustrate the substance behind it. I bought a Wii however many years it came out ago, and I like everyone else loved Wii Sports and even Twilight Princess. Since then, I've noticed that when I do dust off the system it's to play games that have hardly anything to do with the Motion Controls and more to do with the game itself. Super Mario Bros. Wii, SSBB, Animal Crossing and now Monster Hunter Tri among some mentions. You think theirs much 3rd party crap software on the Wii now? Wait until the bargain titles such as Nerf Super Soaker 3d comes out! It's like your getting sprayed, In 3D!!!! Of course I won't be buying titles such as these, but I just wanted to point out that if the Studios putting out post op 3d seems to be the norm now, then I don't see how their cousins the videogame industry won't follow suit. There will be great 3d games, classics I'm sure. But the crap will outweigh the good stuff. I'm from the future :) I know this.

Well, of course the crap will outnumber the exceptional 3D games. Otherwise we'd have to completely revamp the English language.
I wouldn't tell someone that just because Avatar was yet another brain dead James Cameron idiot movie that 3D is a gimmick. And I wouldn't tell someone that the Wii's nerf game (which is really good, btw), proves anything about the motion control idea.
Most consumers are poorly informed, and there's a lot of money to be made in shovelware. And if you become informed, you have little to worry about.
