A trailer embedded in a post on the U.S. PlayStation.Blog has revealed that Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, which had previously been promised to hit North American store shelves this summer, has received a firm release date of September 7. If you're extra enthusiastic about vanquishing the Heartless, the post explains that you'll also be able to pick up a hardware bundle that includes the game, an unannounced movie, a 4GB memory stick and a "Mystic Silver" (that's fancy-speak for "plain ol' silver") PSP-3000 on the same day.
The PlayStation.Blog post didn't mention a price for this package -- we'd guess it'll be around the usual $199.99 price point that other PSP bundles are currently being offered for, but we've contacted Sony to try and get a more official number. In the meantime, check out the brand new, ever-so-brief trailer for Birth by Sleep that's posted above.
Update: A press release accompanying this announcement just arrived in our inbox, revealing a handful of the game's auspicious cast of voice actors: Mark Hamill, Willa Holland, Jesse McCartney, James Woods and Leonard Nimoy. Oh, Nimoy, our oldest friend. It's been too long.
Update 2: A Square Enix representative confirmed the bundle will retail for $199.99.

Ugh... The developers of FF Versus XIII are the Kingdom Hearts devs. They aren't gonna work on KH III until Versus is almost finished.

I don't see any reason for PSP2 not to be download only. Physical media for handhelds is just tedious and impractical.

that and Sony is seeing that people ARE willing to buy stuff without having physical media thanks to the constant influx of sales they are having on PSN games.....oh and then there's Apple.....who have some of the same people that said "I love to OWN my games on a disc and digital downloads only is full of fail"...spending all kinds of money on the Appstore...so Sony is PRETTY sure that if priced right their games will sell...

Being download-only won't ensure that piracy is defeated. It might actually make it easier, as the pirates won't need to figure out a way to rip the PSP2 isos.
Look at WiiWare and Virtual Console, those are download-only and they're already cracked.
The only thing that's nearly guaranteed is that the Rev.A version of the PSP2 will likely be the most easy to crack, so I'll be nabbing it the day its released and never updating its firmware.

He seems to have a history in games. Like Civ 4. Not to mention Peter Cullen (optimumus freakin prime) of all people was to voice Doomhammer on the failed Warcaft adventures then did a voice-over for WCIII. Seems like a slight trend for action show actors.

Is it still full of Nomura's fangirl original characters instead of properly focusing on the Disney and FF characters? If so, call me when they go back to what made KH1 awesome. I don't mind Sora, but KH2 was so not what I wanted.

If they can get away from Nomura's swan songs this time around it might actually be a decent Kingdom Hearts. I loved the first one, I "meh"'d the second and this one looks promising if only for the ultimate combo of Mark Hamill and Leonard Nemoy ftw.

Birth by Sleep is full of Disney worlds much like KH and KH2. Among them are Cinderella, Snow White, Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, Hercules, Pooh and Disneyland (yep, this time there's a stage based on the Magic Kingdom/Disneyland).

For me, the KH series has provided more entertainment for my gaming dollar than the last few FF games, but am I alone in thinking "Birth by Sleep" is a ridiculously dumb name?
