We'll keep this quick: Bungie's Brian Jarrard has just informed Joystiq, "Our official plans as of now are to turn off the Reach beta on Thursday, 5/20 at 10AM PDT." Previously, the beta was scheduled to end tomorrow, May 19, at an unspecified time.
That's what we call a reprieve! Get back into the fight, folks.

Nice! one more day.
I wonder if you keep it on if you can still play games like those people playing halo2 for days after the live shutoff. Also are those people still playing?

People did that 3 years ago with Halo 3's multiplayer beta....I remember reading about games a couple weeks after the official end-time.

I plan on staying in after the end date, if it works like Halo 2 did. Though knowing me I'll totally forget when it ends and proceed to bang my head against the wall.

Meh, if I left mine on, my wife would probably turn it off in the middle of the night ;-)

I really, really, really want to enjoy this game.
..But I just cant. I dont know why, I played Halo 2 and 3 online and enjoyed, but for some reason I cant get into Reach. Peoples massive resistance to normal guns, the cheapness of grenades, and 2 hit melee kill still being around.
After the quick deaths of Bad Company 2, I have a hard time adjusting, and I acually really dont feel like adjusting.

I really enjoy this one more than 3. The strategy that comes with the armor load outs lets you do something if you get shot first and without seeing your opponent. Even though there are only three maps and a limited number of game types, I can't get enough of this one.
I enjoyed Bad Company 1 but haven't dropped the bills on the second since I have so many games to play right now. Mass Effect 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Alan Wake.

I'm actually liking it a lot. But yeah, hopefully the full version will tone down both the blast radius and damage of grenades, and also put a longer cooldown on melee'ing to stop the double melees.
Also, I'm really not a fan of the new melee system whereby any melee with someone's shields up brings their shields to 0 but does no damage to health (regardless of whether their shields were at 1 or at 100).

I agree. Right now, I have the exact same feelings about Reach.
I will say this however. What hooked me on Halo was not the multiplayer portion of the game. Though it is what makes up a lot of what the Halo franchise has become, the story and single player campaign is what hooked me. It wasn't until I played through the campaign several times that I really started playing online.
With Bad Company 2, it was the opposite. It wasn't the single player campaign or story that drew me into it, but the multiplayer.
So, here's to hoping that the campaign of Reach draws me into the game as Halo 3 did.

Not sure how much it matters to you, but bungie said they were aware that the delay between melee punches was too short.

If you can kill someone in two swings of your hand/gun, there definately should be a period between to take a breather. You're putting a lot of energy into that smack, i don't care about super soldiers, it should take a little bit out of them. The move should be a lot slower, too.

@R
i have no idea what you mean by "normal guns," but the other issues you mentioned, along with many others, have already been corrected and will be fixed for the fall (though not for the beta obviously).

Even if its for one day

Gah, I was hoping it'd be longer, based on this:

Though it still does make you wonder what was going on with that May 23rd date then.

Halo 2 and 3 were great and I put A LOT of time towards both of them (Won a a free Halo 3 copy from winning a halo 2 tournament)
Halo reach seems like a letdown to me.. As some have already posted it got boring after the first few days.

I'm gonna be honest, I kinda lost interest in the beta after a week or so. The first round was fun, but Invasion mode annoyed me to no end, so I just kinda stopped. Haven't even played Generator Defense. I love Halo, and I know the game is gonna be epic, but what's wrong with me?

They've actually recently tweeked some of the invasion settings to balance it a little. Maybe you should give it another shot.

Yeah, they did make a change to the Spartan loadouts during Tier 1, but I find Teir 3 to still be incredibly unbalanced in the Spartans favor. They have access to multiple sniper rifles, lasers, rockets, and tanks which can make it absurdly hard for the Elites.
I like the Invasion concept, but the access to weapons needs to be tweaked, which I am sure it will be for the full release.
Invasion slayer, on the other hand, is awesome.

to me the reason the beta isn't as engrossing as some of us would like it to be is because we've played other shooters that we're more rewarding and played at a faster pace. Halo is NOT the halo is was between 2001 and 2003. Once the Call of Duty franchise picked up and then other shooters with multiplayer challenged us and grew on the success of halo, it was only a matter of time until the slow multiplayer shooter became another shooter for a system.
Still a fan of the story, but multiplayer can't hold my interest anymore because it just feels slow for its age. And only now are they trying to change some things up....well the retail game isn't out yet so heres hoping they collected some great data!!!

The beta is coming to an end already? Well can't wait till the actual game comes out. This game brings COD to absolute shame.

After a weekend of playing the Beta with non-Halo fan friends........who absolutely loved it.
HALO REACH imo is going to sell better than ODST.
I gotta give it to BUNGIE.....the new modes and enhancements definitely have refreshed the multiplayer.

I must say, as someone who never got too good at Halo multiplayer (and therefore didn't really enjoy it too much), I am gonna miss Reach once the beta ends. I have had fun the different modes and loadouts, and I'm a big fan of the respawn options.
Plus, in Halo 3, it seems like every match gets vetoed ("veto...veto, veto, veto"... SHUTUPKID!!!!!) and it defaults to Team Slayer on Sandtrap. That shit gets boring super-quick.
I think with Reach, they took cool Halo gameplay and mixed it up with some popular features from CoD and other shooters, but in the end they kept it real. It's still Halo in the end. Can't wait until fall...
