Gamasutra reports that in the weeks preceding its launch on the shiny new Steam for Mac client, Runic Games' top-down RPG Torchlight hit a pretty substantial milestone. Since its launch last October the game, which typically sells for $20, has been purchased over 500,000 times.
We imagine Perfect World, the game's publishing partner that recently purchased a majority stake in Runic, is pleased as punch about reaching the sales milestone. You should be, too -- in honor of hitting the half-million mark, and in celebration of the game's launch on Mac, you can grab Torchlight on Steam for $10 for a limited time.

Still $2,500,000. I wouldn't be complaining.

I'm a little surprised it hasn't sold more than that, with all the $5 sales. I've gotta say, I just stopped playing the game after finishing the story because I am not going to grind for the sake of grinding in a single player game - but for $5, it was decently worth it.

That's actually a really great sales figure for an independent game, that had little traditional advertising and was available digitally only for the first several months of it's life.
There are plenty of top tier retail games that fail to sell a half million copies.

Is there a good place to keep track of Steam sales? I'm new to Steam with my macbook air (not going to be able to run a ton of stuff), but I'm very interested in Torchlight for instance.

You dropped probably 1500 to 2000 on that laptop and it can't run most games? Whaaaat? What kind of hardware are they stickin in there? a 512 mb video card and a quad processor aren't that much these days.

Ha, it's integrated graphics because it's super thin. But at least they're from nVidia and not the Intel GMA crap.

The game is really good, tho a little more repetitive than Diablo 2 or Titan Quest. Its a great game for sure, but games like Titan Quest and Dungeon Siege 2 are better. Especially since Titan Quest Gold is on Steam for $14.99 (in aus anyway, might be cheaper elsewhere). Titan quest is a phenominal game and better than Diablo 2 in my opinion, with much more gameplay and really good graphics. The whole game is awesome from start to finish, i can't talk it up enough. If you liked Diablo 2 and Torchlight but you don't own Titan Quest Gold, then shame on you!

I rarely ever buy PC games but this one really kicks ass. Not only is it fun, but it's the only game I own that I can play at the highest specs. I bought this game at Wal-Mart for $19.99. I think this game is waaaaaaaaay better than Diablo 2.

I'd agree except, the items were incredibly uncreative. just put the word epic in front of everything.
With mods, the monsters had some cool elemental and spell area effects but playing this vanilla, the unique monsters lacked the satisfaction diablo 2's has.
Extremely lame to have finished the game at level 35. Sure you can keep playing, but it is the exact same areas and monsters, just over and over and over. When there are only two dungeons, this is what killed it for me and why i stopped playing. diablo 2 had the online element which made things very competitive and 5 acts = lots of variety and monsters.
What i did love was the combat and everything else. Well, except identifying scrolls. Sure, its classic but it is also pointless busy work. Fairly sure by the time i stopped, my character was just on an IV drip with potions, stole enough mana to never have to worry about that.
