So are these coming to the Motorola Milestone but not the Droid? It's the same phone but just in a different region...

Graphically these games looked interesting in the short clips but I counted at least 3 knockoffs in that range. Gangstar - GTA knockoff, Hero of Sparta - God of War knock off, Let's Golf - Everybody's Golf knockoff. I wonder how well they'd stand up to prolongued play.

At the very least it demonstrates that Android is capable of supporting 3D games even if they might be knockoffs. It bodes well for the future but I expect some android phones will not be getting these games because they don't meet the basic system requirements.

Gameloft SPECIALIZES in knockoffs. However, to their defense, the knockoffs are higher quality than one would expect.

Let's Golf HD on the iPad is fabulous. Took me back to all my fond memories of Ace Golf (US title: Swingerz Golf) on the GameCube. I can only imagine on a DROID or similar, it's going to be well worth the $$$.

Every one of these games (and more, not just from Gameloft but from EA and others) has also been on webOS for 3-6 months, don't see you reporting on that.

Yes, but none of these 10 games have been reported. When noting that the games were available on the iPhone, it shouldve been stated that they're also available on webOS. It has nothing to do with being whiny and everything to do with the fact the article makes it sound like iPhone and Android are the only two places to get these games. I'd have been just as annoyed if tthey didn't mention that theu were already on the iPhone.

"Yes, but none of these 10 games have been reported." Assassins Creed was in that clip, and the yes it was reported when it appeared on WebOS as NaeemTHM demonstrated. The fact that these are the first big games to appear on Android from Gameloft makes them newsworthy. Other games are far less likely to warrant a mention unless they are also notable for some reason.

As for WebOS, it's no wonder it isn't receiving the coverage of other platforms. It is a critically acclaimed phone OS but it doesn't have the market share and things are unlikely to improve any time soon. It doesn't offer anything compelling over its competition. God knows what HP want with it, but perhaps they forsee using it for other kinds of small device - I think the phone market is too cutthroat to make WebOS viable there.

My point is, not even a passing mention of the fact the exist on webOS is in the article. That'd be like reporting that Red Dead Redemption is released for the 360 without mentioning it also being on the PS3 and then saying it wasn't mentioned because the PS3 doesn't have the market penetration of the 360.

All I'm saying is it'd have been ridiculuously simple to make a note of the other platform that the games are on in the article.

More like saying Halo was released for PC at some point. Or Starcraft for N64.
Even Heavy Rain for PC a la flash.

Dale, I agree 100%. Competition is a good thing. These handset wars of awesome handsets would not exist if not for the iPhone, and the iPhone wouldn't be adding multitasking, etc, if not for pressure from android. Competition makes the world go 'round.

I was merely laughing at the fact that deaftly is implying that these 10 games signal the fact that the iPhone is dead/non factor/dying, or some variation on that.

No trouble. I was really annoyed when I first read the article and it did not include the DROID. Then I watched the video and noticed they were using the DROID to show the games. Moving pictures help clear things up for some reason. :)

Hold off on buying these games, folks, unless you like paying money to test companies' products. This post isn't reporting the whole story.

+ Many Android owners are reporting that the games don't work on their phone. See http://androidandme.com/2010/05/news/gameloft-unleashes-wave-of-android-3d-games-most-dont-work/

+ Gameloft has a pretty unforgiving return policy:

" We accept absolutely no returns on game downloads. Should you be unable to download the game, select a game that is incompatible with your phone, lack sufficient credit to download it, or have a problem with your internet service, you will not be refunded. If you complete payment more than once, you will not be refunded. We reserve the right to replace your purchase with another game in exchange."

+ You have to buy them through the Gameloft site, not the Android Market. And that means more chances for errors and possibly an inability to get updates if or when they are available via the Android Market.

Yeah, a huge red flag went up when I realized that this isn't in the normal android market. I can understand the need for it to be an external, non internal memory eating app, but the android market is fixing that shortly.

Pretty sure Assassin's creed has been available for awhile. I've see it and Prince of Persia in the market since I got my phone (Bought the Droid on launch morning. Actually waited in line to purchase it wearing my AT&T sales uniform because I had a meeting to go to immediately afterwards), but I never really checked them out.

Every OS is fragmented, how is Android different? iPhone is fragmented. I'm sure the newer 3D games run like garbage on the 1st gen iPhone or they don't work at all like the multitasking feature in OS4. Windows is fragmented. Ever try running Crysis on Windows 95? Hardware is fragmented. How's that video card from 2003 working for you when trying to run a DirectX 10 application?

@Kodros, I know what you mean; however, there is a difference between an upgraded, "new" version of the same product, and the way android phones are coming out at the same time with different hardware and software versions.

Wow, it has begun. I'm sorry to hear about the problems people are having, honestly, but this is where Apple's heavy control works. I know people like open platforms, I love the concept, but strict control is what makes XBLA and the App Store great services.

Just tried accessing the site on my UK HTC Desire but to no avail. Told me to use the "WAP Browser" to access the Gameloft site (lolwut, just take me to the damned website).

Gave up after 5 minutes of trying to access it. Judging by the previous comments about Gameloft I'm guessing it's actually a small miracle I did.

I just went on my Google Nexus One (T-mobile) to the website as they instructed and only found Assassins Creed, none of the other games could be found on their site.

Maybe they announced this before it was actually up and running? Guess I'll check later. I was kinda interested in that Dungeon Hunter.
