See the future in Xenoblade's battles

Monolith Soft's Xenoblade remains something of a mystery, even one month before its Japanese release. A new trailer (after the break) and new screens, analyzed by IGN, shed some light on the way battles play out in the RPG -- and it's nothing like Xenogears or Xenosaga.

Monolith took the Final Fantasy XII/White Knight Chronicles route with this game: real-time movement combined with time-constrained attacks. Your party is controlled by AI, as are your character's basic attacks. You affect the flow of battle by using your character's special attacks. You can also use the Monado sword's "vision" ability to see a few seconds into the future and anticipate enemy attacks.

Xenoblade will be released in Japan on June 10. Prospects for a North American release are unclear.

Oh damn! I never played the first two, but this one looks damn zawesome!

Definitely looking forward to this one. The only RPG I'm anticipating more than this title is The Last Story

This game is proof that you don't need HD to make a good game. If I want to see a movie, I'll turn on my satellite TV or put a DVD in the player. If I want to play a game, I'll turn on my Wii. I have Final Fantasy XIII for the Xbox 360 (I had bought a Xbox 360 the day after Square Enix announced a Xbox 360 port of Final Fantasy XIII because the PS3 was still $399 and I didn't have an HDTV at the time, I had an analog TV with AV inputs, so I didn't have a need for a Blu Ray Player), and it seemed more like a movie (like Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, which I own on DVD) than a game to me.
