One of Sony's major E3 titles has been revealed slightly ahead of time. Sony and Guerrilla Games are delivering on Jack Tretton's impromptu promise: Killzone 3 is real, and you'll be able to see it for yourself in the July issue of GamePro, on shelves June 1. A subscriber spilled the Helghan beans on the GameSpot forums, also revealing that the game is playable in 3-D, with the effect requiring the use of glasses (oh, and a 3-D-capable television). GamePro has confirmed the cover story to Joystiq.
That means that Killzone 3 is going to be a showpiece for Sony's 3-D technology, and therefore we should probably expect to hear a lot about it at the company's E3 presentation.

Not many.
But like any other emerging technology, the numbers will grow.
I assume eventually there will be a time when the problem is buying a TV that DOESN'T have 3D.

It's an optional feature, meaning you don't have to use it. I don't have a 3DTV but I think it would be awesome to see it, the first game was gorgeous and already almost seemed 3D.

yea Halo 2 was the best Halo to me.....and after being in the Reach Beta(yea I know its not finished) I'm not sure it will make me go back to Halo...
KZ2 isn't geared towards halo players......no dual wielding, no jumping 30 feet in the air.....its not much that IS geared towards Halo players outside of Halo...

It's obviously just not your type of game. That doesn't mean it "blew". I hate Halo with a passion, I think it's gameplay is archaic, it's too floaty, and I don't like the atmosphere.
But that's my opinion, I know it's not a bad game.

After playing Killzone 2 I just couldn't see, beyond the graphics, what the big deal was with that game. It looks like the Killzone series will continue the trend of being a graphics showcase to demonstrate the potential of visual tech. It's impossible to judge at this point if KZ3 will innovate in terms of gameplay- I wish the last one had done that.

Sure it wasn't innovative, but it was fun as hell. Especially the online. I have so much time on that game, I just hope they include more classes this time, and they don't water down the controls to make it like COD.
The sixaxis integration with the sniper rifle was cool though.

Yeah Portal and Bioshock seems to be rare examples of innovation within the genre. KZ2 wasn't a bad game it just felt boring- like I'd done it all before. The one thing KZ2 did that I wish other games would adopt is changing the gameplay mode on-the-fly in online multiplayer. That was always fun.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how Portal was innovative at all. The only reason it got popular online is because of cake, lies, and a catchy song.
And yeah, I liked it, but I don't see how it was innovative. It was just a basic puzzle game

It's just a simple gimmick to create puzzles, every puzzle game needs a gimmick. I've seen similar stuff in flash games online...

Can you play this game without 3D ?

yea.....no one is going to make a 3dD only game anytime soon.....as its too costly at the moment to go all 3D with your setup...not to mention spending MILLIONS of dollars on a 3D only game would be suicide

I don't think it will be like that for a long time, if ever. That's like making a game that only an HDTV can play. I know I wouldn't ever buy a game that is only 3D, even if I had a 3DTV.

Hm, personally I adored Halo 1 as much as my future wife and kids, Halo 2 wasn't as much a classic as the first, but it was epic none the less, I kind of stuck with Halo 2 being my fave. Halo 3 was nice, but nothing special, ODST was pretty weak and I haven't tried Reach yet, I hope it brings back my Halo 2 addiction.

Its funny that when games started going from 2D plains to 3D graphics, they were initially given '3D' in the sub title rather then just a sequel number. So seeing as we have advanced since the days of, we'll supposed 3D sonic on Dreamcast, isn't this like 4D :P

I can't stand 3D on any medium to be perfectly honest. Its always seemed like a cheap gimmick to hide the actual meat of a product being crap. (Exhibit A: Avatar) After Killzones 1 and 2 though maybe Killzone 3D would be just what the franchise needs to get the idiots in the audience to buy.

Loved halo 1, detested halo 2. That was the reason i lost all interest in the halo series. I finally got around to playing halo ODST a few weeks ago and loved it, and now i'm dying to give Halo 3 a spin.
I did enjoy killzone 2. it wasn't outstanding, just good. They really could've changed up the scenery a little more. And they could have also made Rico not suck so much, but he did add comedy to the situation. It felt too much like a corridor shooter. There were open spaces here and there, but nothing worth taking advantage of. But that's why it look so good, because they can have a tight control over what's rendered. The cover system was useless, and was a headache to use properly.

Won't they sacrifice graphical fidelity for the effect, though? Still, it should be interesting to see how they can surpass the original.

Never played KZ1, but I can say that KZ2 was an impressive game.
I know everyone boasts about the graphics and all that, but really, I never noticed them in the game. What I did notice was the enemy AI, which I thought was superb. I mean, they actually worked together to take me out. They often times would try to flank me or use one of their own as bait while the others attacked.
Aside from maybe Halo (and it's silliness), I'd say that KZ2 has some of the best enemy AI I've seen in awhile.

Great times!
If you look around you should be able to find a Samsung or Mitsubishi 3d ready tv for 600-800 dollars easy.
This is great news for developers as Sony is going to ease up on some of the access restrictions in devtools for the PS3.
I expect to hear interesting news about scaling and refresh rates at E3.

I think there's alot of subtle nuances in terms of tech that still goes largely unappreciated in KZ2. I'm no expert but I loved how the whole game looked, even if it was a limited color palette.
My friend, who's never owned a 360 or ps3...his draw just dropped when he saw KZ2 and he didn't want to go home after he sat down. I liked it too but not in a "I'm a stayin' up all night" kind of way.
I'm hoping KZ3 is just as enjoyable.

@Ezio: Don't let his bias discourage you. I probably would've liked Killzone if I had a PS3. I know when I played 1 and 2's demo, it was solid.
Also, I know opinions are opinions, but there is no was Halo 2 was the best Halo. All of them are great games in my opinion, but H3 is essentially H2's multiplayer done better, and H3's campaign is the next best thing other than H1's. So, no, my friend.
Also, Reach has done away with the super floaty jumping, and the beta is now over. I'm just correcting a some disinformation. The rest is opinion.

Killzone 2 is still the best shooter exclusive the PS3 has seen, without question. I am actually really glad they are doing this as it might give me reason to dust off the ole PS3 before I rent, and subsequently hate, Socom 4.

Awesome. I can't wait to try it. I just hope it's not rendered in 480p to get an acceptable frame rate.
Last week I OC'd my i7 920 to 4.2ghz and took my gtx 480 from 700mhz to 850mhz. Batman AA, BFBC2, WoW, and many other games are completely gorgeous and smooth with my 3D Vision setup. I can't wait to have a little extra to pickup two more 2233rz's, another gtx 480, and a new PSU once 3D Vision Surround is officially released.
The 3D visually isn't that mind blowing after a couple seconds However, it is so much more immersion, the story, including any action, suspense, horror, etc, really grips you. In HL2EP2, when the giant ant lion is charging you and chasing you through a tunnel, it actually gets your adrenaline going. And Batman really keeps you on the edge of your seat. For most games, 3D is going to make the gaming experience so much more enjoyable. Just don't judge it until you play it for more than a few minutes.
