According to Siliconera, Level 5 recently trademarked "Professor Layton and the Unwound Future," which seems to correspond with the Japanese name of the third puzzle-rich Professor Layton game, Professor Layton and the Final Time Travel. This is just ... this is so frustrating. We've told Layton over and over again: When you're tying up the future, you've got to use a square knot. These types of problems are best solved with prevention, sir.
Even if this particular title doesn't match up exactly with the Japanese original, the time travel theme seems to feature in both titles. Perhaps Layton will explore his own past, and we'll finally get to learn why he wears such a ridiculously tall hat. That's really the greatest puzzle of all, isn't it?

Is it strange that I can't help but look at him and go "damn I'd like that hat in TF2?"

This reminds me of a puzzle...
I was all set to watch the Professor Layton movie that I had (ahem) "legally acquired", and was about to call to invite some friends over to watch it with me. As a test to make sure my streaming-to-the-TV setup worked, I wanted to watch just the first minute or so... and I discovered it was, in fact, an infomercial for TimeCube. All 60 minutes of it. Ah well, undaunted I still decided to invite those friends over, but all of them said they may or may not make it once I called them and told them what happened. I also decided to order a pizza for us, and made sure to order in such a way so that, no matter how many of my three firends arrived, everyone would always be guaranteed to have an equal number of slices.
How many slices was the pizza cut in to?

JerkFace got it!
12 is the least common multiple of 1, 2, 3, and 4.
There's another puzzle to be told about this story, but that'll have to wait until the next Layton post. Incidentally, when I went to a gaming convention dressed as Layton, I busted this puzzle out for folks who recognized me. Only about half of them got it without prompting. Others said 6, because they forgot to add me into the equation (3 people, instead of 3 + me).

Actually, the square knot is one of weakest and least reliable knots out there. It'll come undone at the slightest nudge. I recommend the clove hitch.

Diabolical Box? Unwound Future?
I'm starting to think Level-5 is putting adjectives and nouns in a hat, randomly choosing them, and then making a plot around it for Layton.
Either way, still good games. Now where's Dark Cloud 3?
