No, the first one doesn't come out until the end of July. What he is talking about in the article is that while both of the dlc have known titles it was unclear how much they were going to cost.

There was launch DLC that came with the game, to fend off the used market.

Really? I highly enjoyed the ending. It brought an end to the story of the game but gave you that good TV season finale thing where you still want to know more. It answered just enough without answering every mystery of the series.

I've never watched much of LOST, but I'd assume the feeling is much akin to what those fans get.

Actually, Lost does this annoying thing where they tend to leave the big moment of resolution until the premiere of the next season. So, each season has a mind-blowingly awesome first episode and a cliffhanger finale.

Game went gold in early April, the DLC is coming out in just over TWO months after the game does and THREE months after the game went gold. I'd say that's way more than enough time for them to have given us full DLC considering most of the assets will have been there to put together.

And it's also not like the game is incomplete.

Timing DLC for this kind of game is tricky, because it's not a game that people play for a long time. Wait too long, and nobody goes back to play it. Go too soon, and everybody complains that it should have been included to begin with (obviously, this content was finished already, and then deliberately held back for later sale).

I'm really enjoying Alan Wake, and I look forward to the free DLC chapter, but I'm not sure about spending ten bones for one more episode. Make it five bucks, and we can talk.

No one cares when the game went gold in terms of fleecing customers with post launch DLC. They are just stringing people along because of the development hell this game went through over 5-6 years and the massive expenditure it was to complete it. Thats the real reason you are getting these story segments of DLC that attempt to explain the nonsensical ending. They purposely left the ending ambiguous so they could sell more non sensical DLC. In fact, I'd venture to guess that all this announced DLC (possibly some unannounced) was originally going to be in the game to complete the story. Instead, they decided to hold stuff back and sell an incomplete game in terms of the ending then additionally sell to recoup additional monies. Great game, Great story, Great Everything but anyone trying to justify the ending or the DLC is an idiot.

Hurr hurr, not if the episodes are anything like the ones in the game. 2-3 hours worth of content for $10. Pretty good deal to me considering how well made and enthralling the game already is.

Before I start, I have not played the game but it's at the top of my list right now. I've been looking forward to it for a while now.

I don't like this whole DLC thing. The game is 7-8 hours for $60. A great game, but still. Only 7-8 hours? Now it's out and they want another $10 for 1-2 more hours of gameplay? (99% positive it won't be much longer) I really can't justify it, maybe I'm cheap... but I know there's others out there who feel the same.

I love lots of shorter games like this, but I would never pay $60 for it. My problem is this, when I buy the game for ~$20, the DLC is still not gonna be "worth" it, even though I probably will pick it up seeing as it's $40 vs $80 (Game, 2 DLC packs).

Anyway, my two cents.

My friend better hurry up, I need to play this.

7-8 hours. took me 11 hours to beat on the easiest difficulty, without stopping to do anything. a playthrough on a harder difficulty, and going for collectibles, will easily run you 15+.

As you said, you have not played the game. The thing is, this also makes you inable to comment on its value as a product. As a person who has finished the game, taking around 12 hours to do so on Hard, and is ready to go in again on Nightmare difficulty, I can tell you that it is most definitely worth the $60. I even paid $80 for the CE and I feel justified in my purchase.

I don't feel justified because of its length, but because of its quality. This game is easily one of the best this year. The story is engrossing, it's really fun to play, the atmosphere is tense to the end. It's just a super solid game.

I don't think that game length should ever be a qualifier for its price. Quality will forever be the decider there. Look at Half-Life 2. It's easily 6-8 hours long, yet worth every penny at $50 because of just how well paced and crafted the entire experience is. I wouldn't want it to be longer, as doing so would only require more filler (such as more driving sequences) than we would ever want. Anime fans constantly complain about filler in their series, but that's how they are so long.

Are some games long? Yes. Should all games be long? No. Just as some movies are shorter than others, so some games need to be smaller as well. Alan Wake is one of those games. It's an extremely well-paced and concentrated game and one whose QUALITY deserves the price.

I, for one, cannot wait until we as an industry grow over the idea of length being the main qualifier.

That's reassuring but the "problem" still stands.

I don't have an issue with the game, just the overall value issue.

Yeah, sorry about the rant, I just have a real issue with the idea of length being the main decider for so many people. It's one of those things that gets me going, haha.

But yeah, we'll see how the DLC is when it comes out. If it's as long and as good as the game's individual episodes, then I'd say it's all worth it. Although you should keep in mind that the first one is free for all who buy the game new, so we'll know the worth of them more-or-less before even buying a single one.

The value isn't in the length(which is pretty average for Alan Wake, 10-15 hours), but rather the content. If you went and saw a really crappy 2 hour movie, then went and saw an amazing blockbuster 2 hour movie, did you get the same value?

i paid $80 for the LE of this and it's been fully justified by the game itself. I paid $60 for Bioshock, Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2, and countless other games that lasted the same length, and all of them were worth it too.

12 hours to complete it here, and that seems to be the general length people are stating.

It's not exactly the dev's fault if people just run through the game.

1) You can play the DLC episode as much as you want.
2) the 15$ map pack is 2 recycled maps and 3 news which isnt doesnt work as much as episode of alan wake does! (obviously)
