Guerrilla Games recently held a small press event in Amsterdam where the studio finally and officially announced Killzone 3. PlayStation Blog Europe's James Gallagher was in attendance and has reported on a handful of the revelations made during the event. Gallagher has confirmed a few of the features spoiled by forumites who had received subscriber copies of GamePro's Killzone 3-centric July issue, which is due out on newsstands June 1.
Most of the details we heard last week -- for instance, the game will have a 3D mode and feature jetpacks, which seems like one heck of a winning combination to us. You can check out the first several Killzone 3 screens in the gallery below. Rest assured, we'll be seeing a lot more of the game when it's undoubtedly featured during Sony's E3 2010 press conference next month. (We'll be sure to pack our 3-D specs.)

I'm thinking the exact same thing. Anyways, I guess it's your opinion and nothing I'm gonna say is gonna change that. So, hope you enjoy the 2 or 3 games you like

Blah. Killzone 2 was all aesthetics, the gameplay was mediocre at best. There seems to be nothing here to indicate the studio is changing anything about the core of the experience. It's another few "selling points" and nothing more.

When the Median Game score is a high 7-8 then yes, 9 is mediocre,

I care what journalists that have continuously proven they don't know squat about good FPS say? Yeah, reviews for Gears of War 2 were real fantastic despite glaring faults in the MP. Same with Killzone 2, some horrific controller design decisions, some really shotty MP functionalities and pretty much bland gameplay got some serious scores from "critics".

Or maybe this is all simply your opinion, which I won't say you aren't entitled to.

Well at least someone gets it. For the rest of you, let me explain:
How many 10s are there a year? There should theoretically be as many 1s according to reviews. The median should be a 5.
However, since magazines like advertisers, the median score seems to be a 7.8-8.2 so yes, a 9 is not as impressive.
Especially when a POS like GTA4 got a 10.

Screw the game scores, the game did feel mediocre and generic. It was fun (didn't love it), and it looked great, but beyond that it could have been so much better. It seems like they had the intention of doing some really cool stuff, but it didn't come together so they had to settle for things like an uninspired mech vehicle level.

I disagree. I think many games that would have gotten extremely low scores get axed before release. Also, many crappy games never get reviewed because they are crappy. Thus, game scores skew higher than you might expect initially.

Killzone 2 went backwards instead of forwards in simple design decisions such as controls and aiming. Things that were ironed out for console FPS almost a decade ago by other developers! WTF!?!??!
This franchise has yet to bring a single new or improved element to the genre. The first game was awful, and the second game had nothing more than really nice graphics. The game wasn't HAZE level of bad but it was close. It had one of the worst characters in the history of game stories (RICo) and overall bad dialogue.
The MP had some stupid design functionalities and pointless objective gametypes no one cared about. You add the fact that the game didn't meet the hype created by bandwagon jumpers and sony elite force fanboys with the less than expected sales, and dwindling online player number count and you have a big questoin to ask: Why is this franchise still hyped again?
KZ2 averages what? a thousand players a day? if even? Compare that to the big boys....

To be fair, he did say that the "gameplay was mediocre at best", not the game taken as a whole. When you take mediocre gameplay and match that with amazing visuals, sound and a good story, you get an above average game, thus the score.
I would hope that most people that read this site think that story and gameplay are the two most important things. Everything else is just the icing, or the sizzle, or the sauce, or whatever phrase you like.

When I play a FPS the two most prominent things to stick out are
1. Gameplay
2. Controls
Those are the two most important aspects of a FPS. Without good gameplay what do you have really? And without good controls how is it possible to execute good gameplay? Good controls with proper aiming mechanics is the backbone of FPS, or any shooter for that matter.
Killzone 2 pretty much fails at both these essentials. I don't see how killzone 3 will be any different if they aren't focusing on anything but LOOK WE GOT JETPACKS and 3-D!! woohoo
This company astonishes me with the kind of crap they get away with. First the Halo-killer tag, and then the CGI trailer of Kz2, and now 3-D????
Balls man, they got balls.

@digi
The PRESS gave KZ the Halo killer tag....GG or Sony never said it.
As for the weighty feel of the guns? I like it much more than the weightless feel of most FPS's. KZ2 takes IMO alot more skill to get really good at. You cannot just unload a full clip without your gun recoil messing up your aim, you need short, quick bursts of fire to stay on target....you know JUST LIKE A REAL GUN.

Killjeebus,
The only game I know that doesn't have a lot of recoil is Halo, and it does feature recoil. Despite the fact that you are wearing a sure strength suit.
and if you think you have to drag a gun barrel around like you are standing in a pool of jello, then you never touched a real gun, they aren't that heavy.

Don't give me the skill argument. There is not a single game that comes close to skill based gameplay than Halo CE and ShadowRun and both games have aim assist and magnetism- these are essential characteristics that make FPS work on a console comparable to those on the PC.
People do not like to splash shoot their guns, it's obnoxious when it takes an insane amount of steadiness to keep your reticle from going crazy on the screen. It's an inherent flaw in the thumbstick controls given in console gaming pads but that's the way it is and has been worked around long long ago.
