Killzone 3 officially announced, screenshots revealed

Guerrilla Games recently held a small press event in Amsterdam where the studio finally and officially announced Killzone 3. PlayStation Blog Europe's James Gallagher was in attendance and has reported on a handful of the revelations made during the event. Gallagher has confirmed a few of the features spoiled by forumites who had received subscriber copies of GamePro's Killzone 3-centric July issue, which is due out on newsstands June 1.

Most of the details we heard last week -- for instance, the game will have a 3D mode and feature jetpacks, which seems like one heck of a winning combination to us. You can check out the first several Killzone 3 screens in the gallery below. Rest assured, we'll be seeing a lot more of the game when it's undoubtedly featured during Sony's E3 2010 press conference next month. (We'll be sure to pack our 3-D specs.)

I don't get people like you. Ok, we get it, you don't like Killzone 2. I don't like Halo but I let other people enjoy it. Seriously, what do you gain from commenting on an article you have no interest in? This is why the industry is laughed at.

Halo reach is gonna be way better then killzone 3... Halo is also s way better franchise.. I own killzone.. And everything seems mediocre except for the visuals...

Correct me if I am wrong, but unless Marathon or Blake Stone had them, I believe Duke Nukem was the first FPS to have Jetpacks in a game.

Face it people, whatever game incorporated jetpacks first is beside the point. These games all STOLE 'shooting the bad guys with guns' from Ikari Warriors. All these other games are just wannbes.

Its a bit disheartening to see talk of HALO in the comments for an article detailing the announcement of Killzone 3. Although, its equally disheartening to see John's comments among them... although they are worth a chuckle or three.

At any rate, I don't remember Sony, or Guerrilla Games, ever toting KZ as the HALO killer... I do remember a lot of print material/magazines and online sources doing that, though. Much in the same vein as Dark Cloud being toted as the Zelda killer... Level-5 never said that, nor did they intend to copy, replace and/or dethrone Zelda in any way.

With that said, Killzone 2 is far from a terrible title. If you say its bad, you're either a troll or haven't played it... possibly both with a little stupid mixed into the fold. Of course, its not nearly as good as HALO: Combat Evolved... the last/only great title in the HALO series before it went downhill, which I hold as THE best FPS to date.

I have games to play on it. let me list them since people on this site love that so much:

Uncharted 2 - broken multiplayer made me give it up.
Buzz - super fun
Every singstar - super fun

But really, some of the best games they have on the system are multiplat, and I want the features that the 360 provides, plus all my friends and family are on the 360.

So to get a game for PS3, it has to be exclusive, and better than a similar product all my friends are gonna buy.

I liked Killzone 2, and it's nice to see some snow, but there's not too much here to get excited over. It practically looks like the same game.

You can't just play two games because they are both good? I plan to play both KZ3 and Halo Reach. And what about games like Demon's Souls, GoWIII, 3DDGH, or Modnation Racers? And those are all fairly recent. You could go player older games like the Ratchet & Clank series, the first Uncharted, inFamous... or even stuff from the PSN store like Super Stardust HD, Shatter, WipEout HD, etc...

I do pretty much like you and get most multiplats for my 360 since that's where most of my friends play online, but I've had no problems finding good games to play.

I normally would pull put the "taste" card... But you don't have good taste in games. If you don't like God of War, Heavy Rain, inFamous, LittleBigPlanet, Wipeout, Metal Gear Solid, Warhawk, Killzone 2, Uncharted 2, the Pixeljunl games, MAG, Demon's Souls, Heavenly Sword, Yakuza, Modnation, or Resistance then there really is no help for you as a gamer.

Seriously, if you think every one of those games are bad then either you're the most blind fanboy on this whole site or just a troll.

Stop writing down "Jetpacks with MORE guns on it to Call of Duty Space Warfare" on that brown paper! NO, don't make it DLC! NO, DON'T MAKE IT COST 20 BUCKS!

The term "halo killer" is dumb to begin with.

It assumes that halo is the best FPS and the standard to beat, which in my opinion is laughable. Halo games (not including the first and best) amount to overhyped mediocrity. Which, ironically, is how I felt about KZ2.

judging by the schedule for Killzone 2, we should be able to play Killzone 3 in, oh, about 4 years.

Actually got modracers on preorder too. Pretty excited about that. I did beat uncharted, the second one just slowed down for me and I lost interest, even though the first one was one of the best games I've ever played. I have the first PS3 R&C, I didnt' finish it, because I got bored again. I have GOW3, it's my wife's favorite game in the world, but 'm not a button mashing fan.

I am beginning to think that maybe I just dont' like games lol.

But what I meant is, I will be playing reach probably only as much as my wife will play it. I'm really not a halo fan, I like team based shooters, which is why I liked the KZ2 MP at first, but it just lacked a lot of features I like.

Right now I think Battlefield is my favorite game, but modracers will probably pull me away.

The reason I don't play both is like if I got a shooter, I mute everyone but my friends and play with them murdering strangers in our own wolfpack, and if I'm goig to give that up to play with complete strangers, it's gotta be a super cool game.

Uncharted 2 had me for a while until the broken MP and I don't want to lose all my ranks.

i hope at least Luger and Hahka turn up somewhere, unless im missing something(i didnt finish liberation) it would be nice seeing most of the old crew back, too bad ol Templar had to go(SPOILER)............

The game will be epic. I loved KZ2 and the PSP game and I'm sure this one will up the ante even more. Can't wait to see where the game takes place after that cliffhanger ending in KZ2. Probably on both Helgan and the other planet ... Vektan I think it was. Now I need to save up for a 3D television.

Well, part of the problem is it appears they deleted the OP's post where we were having our discussion. Now all of our posts are by themselves and don't make much sense.

Actually that's probably it, I don't' see what was so offensive to get deleted about all those posts though.

Anyway we're about to watch monster squad, so this will be my last post until tomorrow.

I have a varied taste, my favorite genre is FPS, but I will try almost any genre (except JRPGs, and Action RPGs I'm not too fond of) but a game has to stand out for me to pay $60 for it.

I learned my graphics lesson way back in voodoo2 days so, I'm not moved by how pretty a game looks. I WILL try KZ3, but I really didn't like much about KZ2, so they have to blow me away, especially since I will pretty much be playing it alone.

I just saw Jeebus and thought, "here he goes again with his crazy claims based on a single screen shot of FMV just like 2 years ago" and had to screw with him.

I do like my PS3, but there simply aren't a lot of games I like on it, and I tend to get suckered into the hype and then find out the game isn't for me.

And honestly, I totally did think HALO reach when I saw the screenshot.

Yeah, it seems if you get downvoted the comment thread disappears and then all of the replies get spread out to whenever they were entered.

I can't believe my joke throwing in some stupid random Halo comment gets downvoted. It was funny. I knew that the comments in this post would be consumed with Halo to Killzone/Killzone to Halo comments.

At least the community didn't let me down.

People always complain about laggy controls in Killzone 2, and at first I was annoyed with them as well, but then I went into the options menu and changed the control sensitivity, as well as the control scheme to match Call of Duty's and I had zero problems with the game. Therefore, if you complain about the controls and the lag, you obviously didn't try a simple solution and would rather just complain about it....

i guess they figured they might as well embrace leaks for this e3. lol. that must mean that they've got some other tricks up their sleeve. Gonna be a good e3

I wasn't able to play Killzone 2 due to simulation sickness issues. :( I hope KZ3 somehow addresses the issue.
