Spring has turned to fall for Front MIssion Evolved, as Square Enix has announced the game will launch on September 14. The latest entry takes the SRPG franchise into a new direction: third-person shooter. Double Helix, of Silent Hill: Homecoming fame, is developing. Square Enix also announced that the PC version will be playable in stereoscopic 3D, which effectively swaps out the gameplay depth from the strategy games for visual depth.
It's great we finally have a solid release date, Square Enix, but you probably should've checked the calendar before deciding on September 14. Just saying!

I just can't find myself caring a bit about this game. If this had been like the other games in the series, I probably would have been interested. Since SE decided to make the game a generic third person shooter, and made by Double Helix, no less, then I think that this will be one game I'm just gonna have to pass on. I miss the old Squaresoft. Ever since Enix bought them out, it's been nothing but a gradual downhill slide into obscurity. I remember way back when the release of a new Square game was cause for excitement, but not so nowadays.
So long, old friend. I will miss you.

Silent Hill Homecoming and GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra.
I agree with you, Master X.

G.I. Joe, sure, but SHH wasn't bad. It wasn't spectacular or anything, but it wasn't bad.

The problem with SH: H is that it has a really slow start, and by the time you get to the good parts the game is already almost over.
"The good parts" would probably be everything that happens after the boat ride.

Sigh. If only this was still a turn-based tactical series instead of yet another compromise by a developer for the benefit of a less cerebral audience. Are we ever going to see hardcore strategy make a comeback on consoles?
As it is, I can't get excited about this series or ones like Shining Force ever again until they go back to their proper roots and stop watering everything down that made them distinct from seemingly 99 percent of the current games coming out. Genre variety is being systematically eradicated this console generation, especially in the FPS and 3rd-person action game-happy western market.
Don't believe me? Just go on GameStop's website, click on the "upcoming games" tab, and mark down how many of each genre you find on the list (it should be about 450 to 500 games or so right now). Go ahead, do it, and I believe you'll be enlightened by just how many marks you make for shooters and action games and how few, if any, you do from other genres. Even if you swear by shooters and nothing else "does it" for you, this is still a HUGE problem long-term for the game industry, because that glut of games in one or two genres and a lack of true creativity is going to cause many folks to simply lose interest. Variety and creativity is a good thing for any industry, and critical for one specializing in entertainment experiences to hold the interest of its audience.

I was really excited about this game but usually don't read up on a game until it's a few weeks from release. Looks like I need to check some info out because I was under the impression that this would tactical turn based. Not so? That is a huge bummer. Thanks for throwing that out there. That's too bad.

Giant robots > Space marines. I'm honestly more excited by this (And war for cybertron) than i am about Reach. Not that i'm not excited about reach, mind you. It's just that i've been waiting for a game like this to come out since i played my first shooter using dual analog sticks.

I was almost considering this game too. Shame, now I'll get Reach instead and forget about it entirely.
