Damn, I was hoping for something like this, but not for $10 a month. This is still a rumor, after all, so I'm hoping it stays just that. I'd happily pay $5 a month for a laundry list of added features, but absolutely never $10.

Plus they already said they are wanting to shy away from full retail releases on the PSN, so a feature that lets you play a game for a an hour AFTER you downloaded the whole thing as a type of demo is also hella suspicious. Reminds me of those firmware 2.00 rumors that went haywire and ended up all being fake.

Here is a rumor for Sony, my PS3 is now officially the Netflix streaming box in my 8 year old daughter's room. I haven't played a game on there since MW2's servers went down the day after release. PS3 sucks because the games and service sucks and you could pay them $500 a year for PSN and it would still suck, just like Live but a little worse. You people need to stop feeding into this industry's greed and unwillingness to meet your needs. What exactly are you going to be paying for? Voice chat over different games? Seriously, that's about all you get with Live other than a screen full of their stupid ads in the dashboard.

They don't give a flying crap about your online experience, just about stealing more of your money. Figure it out kids. When was the last time you played a game online that didn't have cheaters left and right? When was the last game you played that offered almost no laggers? I could go on and on but the simple truth is that the console market is trying to pilfer all the money you'd spend on PC hardware out of you in other ways and you're all just going along with it. It's sickening.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!! Stop giving you &, in some cases, your parents' money away....

Maybe it's going to be a tiered thing... Like 9.99 for one month, 24.99 for 3 months or 40 for 6 and 70 for the year?

Dosent XBL charge alot more if you go month to month? It's likely to follow the same idea.

I don't think it's a bad value, but we'll have to see how much it actually costs.

$120 a year is steep, but considering that it covers some level of insurance, that may well be worth it.

comparatively:

Applecare laptop insurance is already at $200/yr, and that's using a student discount.

The good thing though is that everybody will retain a basic level of online access, unlike Xbox Live and how their silver membership is essentially useless.

Okay there have been no CONFIRMED price points yet. Everyone is crying about a service that hasn't even been formally introduced and a fee that was thrown out there with no confirmation from Sony.

I'm all for a PSN+ if it's appropriately priced and feature filled. For those who stay basic though, I just hope Sony doesn't downgrade that to make PSN+ more appealing and then hide behind their "features subject to change" small print like they've done for past removed features.

Keep in mind, going by the same math that this nonsense article uses, XBox Live Gold costs $95 a year.

id say im a fanboy, and dont think I'll pay 120 a year for this, let alone be able to convince my rl friends (that I convinced to get a ps3) to dish out any money so I can chat to them while in game, which sucks, was always a feature I wanted to use with them, that way i could game and catch up, just vid chat gets a bit boring real quick sometimes

Most of this sounds fair enough (except the price I guess), but the ability to autopatch games? That's not a per-month service; that's a firmware update.

u guys talk about ps3 vs xbox. I have both consoles and I prefer psn because I like playing killzone. Yes xbox has a lot of features which psn doesnt but psn is free. I have a lot of friends who bought a ps3 over an xbox just because of that. they dont want netflix and twitter, they just wanna play online. Also mag supports 256 players, has any xbox game even reached like 1/4 of that. im not saying more players mean better game, im just saying things psn can do that xbox cant. im on my 3rd xbox but i still have my launch ps3 and ive actually played my ps3 for longer. Therefore I rather have a console that is atleast reliable. Im not a fanboy but for a fact the ps3 is the best console, the games, the reliability and blu-ray and basic online features are what really make ps3 gud. now people say ps3 was so expensive. if u think of it blu-ray player, free online, reliability and wifi all for 600 was not too bad. if these things were added to 360 then it would be somewhere in the 1000,s.

To all you people that keep bringing up mag (like 2 or 3 of you) - That game sucks. It could have 1000 players at once and it wouldnt make it any better.

Anyhow, im sure this all sounds great on paper but once its in use im sure it wont be what you all think it will be. After I read the part about getting a demo AFTER you pay full price for a game, I was like wtf? So I have to buy the game in order to try a demo of it an hour before everyone else? Did I read that right?

This is something I would pay for seeing as I buy so much crap from PSN and like mini's and PSX games. The biggest thing about it is that the fact if I ever cancel it I am still allowed to play online. Even if it is a pointless at least your given the option to pay for extras or stay free.

this doesn't sound terrible to me besides voice chat and auto patching being included as well as the price. other than that, you can still play online for free which i feel is the key draw here. i still feel that you shouldn't have to pay for online, which is why i play all my online games on my PS3 and my 360 has a Silver Live account.

yea i don't think these companies understand the point of a demo. kind of how i feel about those Gamestop "deals" where you have to pre-order to get a demo. i mean how do i know i want to pre-order if i haven't played said demo yet?

All I saw in the article was: "$120 a year for cross-game chat"

I pray this actually is a rumor. Great way to split the community in half.

Another thing im curious about is the cloud based saves. I looked up what that was because I didnt know. From what I get its just a server of sony/playstation that stores your data for you instead of putting it on your harddrive. Sounds good and all and it will save a lot of space but what if you cancel your subscription? Will you still have access to your game saves and dlc and whatnot? I bet you wont. Thats a big deal and I want to know more about it.

Er...It's kind of been confirmed that XGVC won't be a "paid service exclusive"

IGN...

According to a highly-placed source, Sony will announce a large-scale monetizing scheme for PSN at the LA show, but we’re assured nothing planned will impact the service’s current free aspects.

A string of features will be revealed, apparently costing “less than £50 per year”.

Sony will confirm plans to give all subscribers one free PSN game per month, from a choice of “two to four” every month.

“If you work it out, PSN games cost an average of £6-9 each, so over a year you’re basically going to be breaking even,” said our source.

A streaming music application similar to Spotify will be announced in Sony’s press conference on June 15. It’s thought that this can run in the background while playing games.

Rumours that cross-game voice chat is being saved as a paid feature are apparently not true, we were told.

“I can tell you now, 100 percent, that that’s not the case,” our man continued.

“There’s nothing in the premium package which will gimp regular PSN users.”

The PSN premium services announcement is thought to be a major part of Sony’s E3 conference, which will also heavily feature Move.

For now, I don't believe this source. I could see offering an ongoing service contract for that price with a few extra perks like the internet saves, but having cross game chat exclusive to a service contract makes little sense when online multiplayer is already free.

Well my Live subscription ran out earlier in the year, and I used the 1 month card I got from my 360's repair on the Halo Reach Beta. Past that, I doubt I'll renew it. Not to be "that guy", but with a relationship and getting ready for college, I wouldn't get my money's worth anyway. Same would probably go for any PSN service they come out with.

I hate xbox 360 (had one for a long time) and I love my PS3 it trumps the 360 in almost every way except... online.

The fact is that PSN is more laggy than xbox live (one reason is lag switches because PSN isn't as monitored as XBL)

Also you are a noob if you think PSN isn't peer2peer but XBL is you know those messages you get "finding new host" well that's because its P2P! PSN is a laggy mess no service that cost money is free I don't care how much money Sony has they couldn't keep PSN up without charging for it without it being a shit service.

The reason Mag supports so many people at once (and who cares? that game sucks anyway BC2 is much better) is because the developers (who are known for their ability to make online multiplayer games with low connection issues) specially designed the game so that the packets for players are sent and received only when in a close proximity to you.

wait how much is PSN+ gona cost a year? $120? christ, thats DOUBLE and then some from the $50 a year I pay for XBL. I mean $120 to have a voice chat system that NO ONE will user because of the cumbersome setup for the USB mic and the half assed bluetooth setup (yea bluetooth dont work all that great over a network setup like an online service) maybe that and a myriad of over reasons are why i play my 360 more then my PS3 hell i use my DC and Saturn, PS2, Wii, N64, GBC, GBA SP, Panasonic 3DO, Neo Geo CD, and Intellivision more then my ps3.
