This Saturday at midnight (ET), Fox will air a 30-minute short film made from Red Dead Redemption. That's right -- this film was created using in-game assets. And it's not just any old basement machinima -- it's been directed by John Hillcoat (The Road) and, according to Rockstar's description, "reimagines" protagonist John Marston's, uh, redemption, as he pursues that prickly Bill Williamson.
Sounds interesting enough -- just so long as it doesn't interrupt MADtv. That's still on, right?

Revolver? Hah, the guy I bought the game from kept calling it Red Dead Revolver...
On topic, if it uses the game assets, maybe they can release it as DLC, oh well, I guess.

I hope it's not on Black & White. I'll be watching it

I will be watching, hopefully no spoilers :) but I doubt it as its completely separate. Sounds cool.
Also Shadow, I can see it being released as a Game Video not a DLC piece.

To me it looks like he was commenting about having the story they tell in the video come out as a story you would play in game as DLC.

Saturday at midnight? On FOX? How'd they manage to work out that deal?
Seems like an awkward timeslot, but SNL is on reruns so it may work out fine. It'll also be able to capture some of that Wanda Sykes overlap. I'm sure they'd be interested in a special based on an Old West videogame.

And televising it? Something as niche and hit-or-miss as machinima? It's pointless and weird. Why not an actual extended trailer or a bit of the game's story? A developer diary? No, they're going to advertise by using the game's assets to tell some kind of unrelated story. Great idea!

What the Hell does that have to do with anything? I am not speaking ill of a cinematic and non-interactive experience in gaming. I'm not cut-scene bashing. It's machinima. On TV. It grants nothing to the hard work put into crafting the story of RDR, and uses its assets to tell a 're-imagined' version of Marston's story. I fail to see the point in televising something like that. That's amateur-hour shit. If Rockstar is trying to spread the word about the game, why in the world would they thing its a good idea to do it in this way?

Hey, a Red Dead machinima has some potential. Maybe it'll surprise you. I agree that televising it is odd, but you never know.

I'll catch it on the inevitable YouTube or Hulu run. Watching television is not what to do on a Saturday night.

This is something G4 needs to do, and since NBC is gonna be part of Comcast there can be actual talent going into it creative and management wise.

Did anyone who posted already catch the creator/director's name? This might be worthwhile. And if you can't or don't want to watch it then, it will be all over the internet before the weekend's out.

Oh so he did The Proposition too? I really liked that movie. Fits in nicely with Unforgiven.

might be worth a check out with the director that's attached to it, hope the game itself is better story wise though, cause I'm looking forward to taking it for a ride

MadTV aired at 11, so no worries.
(It ended a year ago, though. Wanda Sykes comes on at that time now.)

Mad TV was ten times better than SNL. It's too bad that it's off the air.

Saw it! So bizarre to see game footage interrupted by commercials. This also really demonstrated how good the voice acting is.
