Spike, I think he was disappointed that it wasn't a Xenogears game, and not that it isn't on a current gen system

What cronos said.

Although you make an interesting point Spike- the Wii is barely a current gen console.

Hmm as far as I can tell this is part of the Xeno series. Same designer, one of the same composers, and the publishers of Xenosaga. Sure it's not a Square published game, but we can't expect a random Xenogears to pop up when the Xeno series has already had it's flights.

I thought all the xeno games were related by world and so xenoblade is in some form a xenogears game if you recognize that xenogears was not the standard connecting hub but rather a node in the xeno hub.

Unless there's some part of the trailer I missed there's no mech on mech fights... so it's not REALLY xenogears... even if it is in the same world.

Oh no mechs so it's automatically not a Xeno game. Right.. Inexcusable.

If there arent cars in the game, then it's obviously not a game set on earth.

Did you NOT see the two enormous mechs duking it out for the first 20 seconds of the trailer? Because I think those were pretty hard to miss.

This game does look pretty epic, but I guarantee you its not set in the same universe/world as Xenogears, I don't remember running around on 2 giant creatures in Xenogears (the 2 giants fighting at the beginning of the trailer are gods I think and the whole game takes place on top of them as they are the size of worlds)....also I saw no references to anything from Xenogears in the trailer including no mech fighting which was prevalent in both Xenogears and Xenosaga. Just because it has the name Xeno in the title does not make it part of the Xenogears/Xenosaga universe. Either way I'm definitely planning on checking this game out when it hits the US, whenever that happens.

Monolith has foresworn any meaningful relationship between this game and past Xeno anything.

Now this is how you do you a trailer. I can barely speak a lick of Japanese, but I understood 90% of the things they were trying to convey. It showed the game play, a bit of story, character customization and various other clips. I'm tired of these half-ass trailers that a lot of developers are shoving out these days.

Trailers with nothing but spoiler cut scenes? I'm tired of all these games... I mean trailers a lot of developers are coming out with these days.

"should help get you up to speed before E3, during which we suspect the game will appear again"
Why the cynicism?

I would love to see the game appear in the Press Event and on the floor at E3.

Between this and The Last Story, Nintendo has a couple of great-looking RPGs lined up for the Wii.

The developer has stated it has nothing to do with the Xenogears/Saga games. The Xeno is used to get recognition to sell really. This was shown off in earlier stages of development at E3 2009 titled "Monando"Beginning of the world"

Also don't expect this on a HD system ever. Nintendo now owns Monolith, been that way since they bought them a few years ago.

Oh, this is "Beginning of the World"? Thanks for clearing that up - I've been wondering where that game went.

Still looks amazing, cheap marketing ploy aside.

Looks pretty cool so far. I was hoping for a bit more realtime-action RPG battle system.

To be honest when i first heard about the combat system i was pretty disappointed. But on second thought, it doesn't have to be bad. It's closer to the combat system of western RPG's like Dragon Age, where you just auto battle and give actions. It doesn't mean it has no room for strategy and such.

It can be quite awesome!

The problems of scale afflict this game's graphical style. Great for sprawling worlds, but intimate scenes look out of whack.

Though those character models have improved vastly from back when the game was still Monado.

According to what I saw earlier on another site and what the trailer shows from 3:00 to 3:30, there's a special skill that lets you see the future or something in battle, and act accordingly (like in the trailer when the player puts up a barrier to avoid dying). That is just pure awesome.

Amazing! I love the world concept, and the art is amazing. No big deal if the textures aren't at the level of an HD system. My girlfriend and I will definitely be getting this. Looks to be an RPG which can finally give me some satisfaction. Not many of those have come out since Chrono Cross.

You, my friend, get +1 simply for mentioning Chrono Cross and its awesomeness.
You know the developer for this game (Monolith Soft) was formed by Xenogears/Chrono Cross vets, right?

Wow, that looks pretty awesome. In particular, it would be nice to see it in higher resolution, but just from that video the graphics on the outside scenes looks great, both technically (doesn't seem like there's a problem with draw distance there) and in terms of general art style. Kind of reserving judgement on the enemy designs though.

I'm not a massive fan of complex RPGs really (and this looks pretty complex - 'vision' mode where you can see the future then act to change it? argh, one more thing to think about) but if the story is good and it's not obscenely long, definitely something I'd consider getting.

Good thing its a really aweful Youtube video and when its properly played on a decent tv in 480p, it'll look amazing, better than Twilight Princess by a big margin.

Supposedly, the two giant gears are Brigandier from Xenogears and E.S Dinah from Xenosaga. I read that on rpgamer news. Also that Tetsuya claims that it is the spiritual episode IV of the Xeno series. Anyway, seems to be a very handsome game to me.

Here's the link to the news: http://www.rpgamer.com/news/Q2-2010/040110a.html

That is, assuming Gears gets released on PSN...

Would a developer risk being sued for copyright infringement (or other legal action) if they said this game was connected to another series published by another company? Doubt they'd come clean with that. Also Xenogears was the 5th part of a 6part story. This could possibly be the last chapter in that series set wayyyy in the future where now only 2 Gears remain with some sort of ultimate power at a standstill conflict. Or maybe the origin of the Gears in general perhaps. /speculation
