It will likely come as no surprise that Square Enix recently published a press release announcing an English localization for Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light. The DS RPG, which touts "beautiful picture book visuals and an easy to control battle system," and a setting which "goes back to the basics and origins of the Final Fantasy series," will come to the US on October 5, according to the game's official site. Europe will get the game sometime this Fall, but a release date hasn't been specified.
The game features a classic turn-based battle system with customizable commands, and a "Crown System" that allows players to change character classes at the drop of a ... well, a hat. Players can also team up with three of their friends to tackle dungeons cooperatively. Check out the first screens of the localized version of the game in the gallery below.

What? A final fantasy game that I'm actually interested in on a platform that I actually play? Please, Joystiq, tell me more!

Ouch. Maybe not. Heart Gold is my 1st Pokemon in about 8 years and even with scamming some kickass guys from used GBA games, and a lot of grinding, most are topping out at around 50 or 60. I'm still a newb so I wouldn't even know how to get to lvl100 if I tried.

I am unsure whether I should be excited or not. What was the general reception for this title in Japan?
The only thing I think that I've ever heard people say about it was that it looked pretty.

Too oversimplified is the general impression I got on GAF.

The characters in this game look so weird. One thing I have disliked about the DS Final Fantasy games is that the characters look nothing like they do in the FMVs.

Ugh. I know they built the engine already and they're all about this new super-cute 3D anime look, but it's making me kinda sick. Where's the dynamic color from 1-6? The personality in each character's design? If you really want to go back to basics, go back to something that doesn't look like ass.

What I really dislike about this article is that it does not explain at all what the multiplayer is like. I assume it's not online. Fine. But is is something SEPARATE from the "story mode" . . . or can you actually play it beginning to end with a friend or three?

I love the logo. It looks very much like classic North American NES and SNES Final Fantasy logos.

This already sounds like it's going to be better than FFXIII.

In picture 3/5 King Horne says, "Ah, is that you Brand?" while the character's name is Brandt. That's a little awkward...

Yes yes, you told Brandt on the phone and he told me. Do you speak English, sir? Parle usted Ingles?!
