Don't be too shocked if your next flight offers you a PSP as part of your in-flight entertainment package. IFE Services has announced a new partnership with SCEA to offer airlines the ability to add custom tailored PSPs to flights. In addition to being "fully certified for use in-flight," the systems will include an extended life battery which offers up to 11 hours of playback -- perfect for lengthy flights. In addition, IFE will offer "comprehensive crew training" for flight attendants of interested airlines.
IFE Services currently works with six airlines, including South African Airlines, making today's announcement perfectly timed for any South African bloggers flying out for upcoming video game conferences.

Imagine the awkwardness of someone playing Dead or Alive Paradise right next to you on the plane.

I was on a UK flight the other week offering this services. Looks like they are offering PSPs, but surely a PSPgo would make better sense?

Way to go SONY....don't offer your customers an 11 Hour battery but give it to airlines and customers who have no use or desire for it.

Yes I have....
My point is....Sony should offer that battery on the market to its actual customers rather than for something that most airlines & passengers will not even care about.

I flew from LA to sydney. a 15 hour flight. I would have gladly taken a PSP. but I don't fly or travel enough to warrant owning one.
and when do even play for 11 hours with out having a chance to charge it?!! the only time I could think of needing battery power like that is when flying over the pacific

I remember the one time I flew from LA to Sydney. Something I ate must not have agreed with me, because I almost threw up on my DS. Not fun, but it was towards the end of the flight.
I was playing Eragon, and even now, the thought of that game makes me a bit queasy.

As long as the airlines don't get all high and mighty and stop me playing DS then I don't really care. I'm not going to play a game console with no game progress and games I haven't specifically chose when I could just play what I know (this is not a rant against PSP but I'd rather play what I bring on a plane).

Seems like a pretty good idea on all sides. It is probably cheaper to set up some PSPs with a large memory card full of a variety of movies and TV shows instead of installing seats with LCD screens (though less comfy since you have to hold the device and all). Throw in a bunch of minis and casual-friendly games and you've got more variety in one little machine than any airline could ever hope to offer without spending a ton of cash.

If I were offered a psp with an extended battery life, I'd take the battery out and put it in my PSP.
