PCs already have Magic the Gathering: Online. Why port this, too?

I'm guessing it's because this is one (small) entry fee whereas that requires per card payment.

Though of course, this is very, very limited by comparison.

Is it still the case that there's no ability to customize your deck? If so, I think I'll pass, even though I sorta miss playing MTG every once in awhile ...

There's always Magic The Gathering Online, which is just... Magic The Gathering. But online. You build decks/buy booster packs etc.

This game is great on XBLA, especially with the most recent streamlining update.

If you like MTG, this is probably one of the best video game executions there is.

This game is good. Mostly for people that may have never played the game, or people that don't know the rules all that well. It gives a good representation of how Magic is played and the strategies involved.

The thing about this game is the lack of customization. You unlock new cards for your deck and new decks by defeating opponents. I look at this game as more of a stepping stone to the physical card game or MTGO.

I won't get it for the PC simply because MTGO is the full game that's not barred by limited options, but this game is great for the average person who hasn't played MTG or wants to learn. The AI of the opponents is decent and you can quickly find yourself losing in Duels of the Plainswalkers.

It's a solid game. Well worth checking out. The deck customization aspect is basically sacrificed for ease of play, but it's a great way to scratch that MTG itch without getting into the ridiculously expensive card collecting hobby. Plus the expansions are fairly priced and add a lot to the game.

What the above guys said. Especially with the latest update, it's pretty fun and they got rid of some of the annoying problems.

The main drawback of this is lack of in-depth deck customization (you can manage 1/3 of the fully unlocked decks) or lack of deck-building. Additionally, in gameplay you don't have complete control over which lands get tapped, meaning the game can foil your plans if you have very specific mana requirements for a chain of spells.

As far as learning Magic, this game is great for that. The AI will challenge you, and all the different decks introduce you to different styles of play and winning tactics very well. The challenges are also pretty fun, forcing you to come up with some difficult answers to specific problems. And it's scheduled to keep getting new content at least through summer, so it'll stay fresh.

It's the perfect game for learning Magic or for playing Magic without all the time and cost of maintaining a collection.

It had a few bugs but MOST were fixed in the latest patch.

Graphics, controls, presentation wise it's the best digital version of Magic.

There is limited customization, but there are also FOURTEEN DECKS. So it doesn't get boring quickly and every game is really different.

It's fun and all, but Culdcept Saga is the real deal. Amazing game. If you're a fan of Magic, you owe it to yourself to pick that one up.

As somebody new to Magic The Gathering, I'd say that I can't imagine finding a more friendly way to get into the game. If you're already a fan and looking to start building your own decks, (and pay for it), you should be looking at the official online version.

Basically, what everybody else said.

This was my biggest gripe. It is maddening that you can't pick which lands to tap, often hosing a turn because you could have played two spells and instead are forced to play only one. It seems like such a basic and easy thing to do initially/fix now. If they fix it, I'll buy it. Not till then.

I don't know about everyone else's experience with the game, but the XBL version locks up every other game since downloading the second expansion pack. Playing two-headed giant against the CPU to unlock the cards in the deck, the game freezes (forcing return to dashboard), locks up (requiring XBox reboot), and sometimes even reports that it lost connectivity with the storage device (the only game to report any problems of this sort on my XBox - and since it plays again simply by relaunching, I don't think it's the hdd). Makes the game nearly unplayable.

If the stability issues were taken care of (hopefully it's different on the Steam version), it's a really fun game to play. Yes the inability to completely customize your deck is very limiting and the AI seems...stupid at best... it's not an awful restricted-play version for those not wanting to actually buy M:TG cards to flesh out their decks.

Would this be acceptable for someone wanting to learn magic, but doesn't have access to friends who would be interested in playing him? =P

Redownload the original arcade game, and it should fix all your problems. I had similar ones as you, and this fixed it.
