So sick that they do people this way. Cannot believe that people are alright with it too. Reminds me of a woman getting beat on, but too scared to leave her man. Face it, you're getting ripped off and nothing you can do about it, except quit playing their titles and Boycott their game titles.

As for GameStop, sure they love it, they're raking in tons of cash from the huge slice of pie they get out of this.

...replying my own post, because I read were people think that it is only EA doing this. Truth it, all console game development companies are adopting this method of screwing you over.

Is every new EA Sports game going to include the pass, or only Tiger Woods? If it's every game, then that's fine. If it's only Tiger Woods and the people that don't buy golf games have to buy the pass, then they shouldn't charge 60 bucks for the game. Like that would ever change now.

If a person buys a used game, they should expect certain things, and I know at least, the store I work at will be adjusting the used price to accommodate the price of the Pass.

Really? Government regulation is the ABSOLUTE worst thing that could happen?

You don't think companies running rampant and selling faulty hardware has been a cake walk?

Sorry, Mr. Methenitis, but public sentiment is currently against corporations.

That's Ron Burgundy-esque.

I think I agreed with almost 100% of what was said, which is weird for any feature article like this. Regardless, I think most of the people who have commented on past articles on Joystiq about this really have no grasp on what's happening here and what is and isn't logical to justify, and most of the people who will comment on this article wont actually read this article.

I really do pity you. Hopefully at least a couple people wake up and realize how ridiculous their rationalization of this is. Yes, it's a business, they're trying to make money. But there is no logical justification for the Online Pass beyond that.

I only buy new games, rarely buy EA games and never buy EA games for multiplayer.

It has no effect on me, thankfully.

I can't wait for the day when EA releases its annual server shutdown list. Some player will buy a used game, an Online Pass and then be surprise to learn that their game server will only be online for another 2 months.

I don't play EA sports games, but I don't like where this is going. If it expands to other titles I'm not gonna be happy. As the article said, this doesn't have any real justification behind it.

Personal feelings about the issue aside (and how much bullshit it is), if this is going to be an ongoing policy the best weapon against it is knowledge and patience. By spreading the word or mandating that EA and other publishers put on the box that features on the disc will not be available unless paid a certain fee, people will take this into account in the worth they put in the product; their willingness to pay.

If multiplayer for a title is $10 and the game retails for $60, but I am willing to pay only $40 for the game. If I value a used and new game equally, then I will have to wait for the retail copy to drop to $40 or the used copy to drop to $30. For most games, this takes a while. And as time goes on, I'm willing to pay less and less for the game considering other new games have come out since then. If it's something like Madden, the amount I would pay for it will drop like a rock as the time goes on and the next edition gets closer and closer.

If most people are informed of this shift in policy and don't just give into paying more, then this will ultimately result in less people on the fence on a game actually buying the game (both new and used) or lower retail costs in general. Either way, for those who do buy the game, they won't actually pay anything extra other than time.

Heh, so in conclusion, online play is important and keeps the game value up and it's good that fewer people will be playing online. Ooookay.

this is currently present in skate 3. Received in i the mail from my online rental service and after the playing the game for hours decided to mess around and make a video. messed around for half hour making video try to upload video and .... sorry you have to input code or pay $10.00 to use the feature to upload videos or view community videos. Contrary to previous statements there was no trial period. I was thinking of buying the game because my daughter loves it but I'll just get her Shaun White when it comes out. And don't get me started on the NFL Monopoly.

Bullsh*t. Skate 3 came out before this was announced, and there is a trial. Also the only affects their sports titles such as NHL, NFL, and Golf. Plus, Skate 3 isn't listed as a game with it.
To use the upload feature isn't part of online, it's part of the video editor. Just like in Skate 2 you had to pay for EXTRA space. Maybe your video was too big.

it saddens me when these days I see so many people defending developers for more nickle and diming the consumer, I remember when a developer would release patches to add stuff to games and in other instances release Expansions with REAL content that added to gameplay, these days developers rehash a map or add 3 new guns and sell it to you and in the most part it is not even new stuff but stuff that was in the original game but they left out to sell it to you in pieces, I am all for supporting game and REAL expansions but I am one of the few who will not keep paying for services that should be included with the game purchase and any publisher that keeps adding new ways to charge it's customers wil loose all my support, the gaming world is slowly becoming the same as the airline business, soon we will even have to pay to go to the bathroom in the plane.

This is the wrong place to complain about this; the online pass doesn't add any cost to EA's customers.

"In fact, isn't the whole point of paying for Xbox Live Gold the ability to be able to access that content store? "

Umm, no? You don't need Gold to access the store. It does give discounts at some sales but that's the extent of it.

what i find troubling is that most websites like this one as well as some podcasts and bloggers have no problem with the online pass. I havn't heard one outrage from anyone in the industry it leads me to finally realize the game journalism industry isn't out for us they are here to feed the machine and keep their own pockets full. I totally understand its a companies job to make a profit but what isn't right is for them to want to make incredible amounts of profits by any means neccesary .
its been said before its about economics you sold a product and thats it. you dont deserve more profits from the 2nd hand market. I have NO sympathy that you are making less money the whole country has less money recently. DO what the rest of us have to do. rope in your spending cut on marketing maybe give less bonuses to your upper managment.
do not gouge your customers ! its my right to get the best value for my money if that means used then so be it. you are not entitled to more money because of the used market . ever wonder why they can't sue gamestop or any of the used markets? cause its not illegal
the desperation is sickening every little scheme they can come up with. and its all for nothing. at some point its all going to be digital distribution and the used market will be a thing of the past. the reason they want all this now is so they make money now and the future when the new pricing structure goes into place by the time the new xbox and ps come out i m sure they want to raise the price to 70 bucks for new titles plus DLC plus anything else they can think of.

That is stupid to say that because there are DLC's that you HAVE to pay for, that you ALSO have to pay to play online. GameStop only likes this because they get a big fat cut. BOYCOTT IMO!
