If you only considered its current Metacritic ranking, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time could be called the first disaster movie of the summer season

???? is it bad?

the camera angles were too close-up that you couldn't see any of the sword-fighting, and there were some cheesy slow motion parts that i thought were left in the 90s (the kind were the frames are all skippy). also, the movie was just plain cheese. but there were some pretty good bits.

I was looking forward to seeing that movie this weekend, will it still be worth it being a prince of persia fan and all? Did it do the series ANY good?

Imagine my disappointment when I clicked that link expecting Jolie sideboob and, instead, am greeted by another unfunny Family Guy clip.

Sigh.

I hear it's ok but certainly nothing to write home about. The critics are saying otherwise, though.

I was taken to see this (my younger brothers were in town) and I have to say, not as bad as I thought it would be. It did what a good ("good") video game movie should do: take inspiration from the game, but make sure it's still a movie. Of course, it also did what no good movie should do: Really shoddy pointless slow-mo and incredibly oddly filmed action sequences.

One thing I found odd was that all the little jokes ("jokes") from the trailers are very out of place; basically made just for the trailers. So even though you know they're coming, it doesn't really ruin the joke of a scene or whatever.

Probably the worst part of this movie, though, was the spoiler-filled ad campaign. Even if it's very predictable, you could at least TRY to keep the twist covered up, instead of trumpeting it all over the walls of every theater.

BEST MOVIE ABOUT A VIDEO GAME EVER

too bad that isn't saying much, but i liked the movie a lot, sort of feels like assassins creed with the parkour on some parts

I got the Assassins Creed vibe too, and the was enjoyable and not a waste of money imo...

I just think it didn't make as much money as expected because moms were too busy dressing up to go out with their girlfriends to Sex and the City then to go see this with their kids.

I thought Silent Hill was the best videogame movie ever. It works both as a love story to the games for fans, and as a standalone horror/scary movie for people who haven't played the games. I never played the games but am passingly familiar with the setting and monsters and such, and I loved it. And I'm not usually one who likes scary movies.

I don't get how 3rd place in the Box Office is disaster, but I understand how this films potential demographics where stolen by Shrek((13 and below males) and Sex and the City(20 and above women who like sweaty abs).

A $30 million opening weekend, 3rd place opening for a film costing around $200 million to make is most definitely a 'disaster' candidate.

I'm not saying that what it made was a disaster, although a $30 million opening for this movie is extremely low. My point is that if you "ONLY" considered the critical response to the film, it would be considered a disaster movie.

If you go by ANY of the movie scores on metacritic, almost EVERYTHING is a disaster movie. PoP is only shares its spot in the 50's with both Shrek and Iron Man 2.

Movie critics are even more cynical and jaded than game critics. Hard to believe anyone could be more whiny and up their own ass about something than game critics, but it's true!

No joke. Every movie critic I've ever read or heard is a complete idiot. Not a single one has any idea what they're talking about.

I hope game critics never sink to that level.

That's what they are saying.. so I'm not sure who to believe.. obviously IMDB would know their stuff, but I also trust Comingsoon.net as well.. Internationally it says it made 59 million for a grand total "Overseas" of 87.5 million I think the numbers are still coming in though.. leaving both sites to only be "estimates". So we'll just have to see what the exact numbers are sometime tomorrow. But according to them 37.8 million from 3646 theaters.

Since the writing of this article, IMDB has updated its projected numbers to now include the Memorial Day holiday. The now four-day window places Prince of Persia in second place. We have updated the post to reflect this change.

Comparing it to other, similar movies on Metacritic, it seems to have done a little bit better:

The Mummy > 48
The Mummy Returns > 48
The Mummy: The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor > 31

$59 mil + $30.2 mil = $87.5 mil?

How can i make my post convey my knowledge that this equation does not work, while also able to show that i do not know everything about the movie business, and wrap it up with expressions that include but are not limited to: smart-ass, dumb-founded, and rofl.

No. It has made $87.5 million in two weeks overseas.
It has made $30.2 Stateside in one week.

It came out overseas first.

Considering the sheer number of ads, billboards and trailers for this movie, that opening is pretty weak.

Ben Kingsely = Box Office Poison.

Took the kids to see it yesterday and it was pretty good. It had action, comedy, romance and a pretty cool (but predictable) story. I liked it alot. I'll probably buy the Blu-Ray when it comes out.
