Hey Nintendo, pay attention: If you really want to find a direct line into the nostalgia centers of our brain, you could learn a few lessons from Super Mario Bros. X. The recently updated game borrows elements from the entire Super Mario franchise (not to mention a few other Nintendo properties), allows for co-op play, has some kind of time distortion gameplay mechanic, includes a level editor and occasionally lets the player navigate the Mushroom Kingdom using the eraser from Mario Paint. It is all kinds of crazy.
You can download the game here, or check out a 10-minute gameplay trailer posted after the jump.

Dislike. No mention of system requirements, turns out it's Windows-only.
Please Joystiq, with the massive influx of Mac gaming with Steam, you really ought to mention if software is Windows-only now.

As someone who has a Mac, you should really get used to most of the software in the world not running on your computer. If it doesn't say "FOR MAC" chances are it isn't.

"with the massive influx of Mac gaming with Steam"
also, the amount of games available through steam for macs is still minuscule.
99 games in total available for mac, that's less than the total amount of games on steam for less than 5 dollars (over 150).
The world hasn't changed, macs are still bad for mainstream gaming, don't expect the world to all of a sudden start treating the mac as a gaming platform.
that being said, eventually, macs might be considered that one day, without the use of third party emulators and such.

Crossover is a compatibility layer, not an emulator.

"99 in 3 weeks! That's pretty massive for a launch on a new platform. "
What? It's not like the Mac is a new console just released last month. The current generation has been around for years, able to game that whole time. This is just the first time a major digital distribution outlet has shown support for them.

Welp, it looks like it was made in Visual Basic. So at the very least, while a port is doable it'd be a hell of a lot of work.
Not to say I'm not up for a good challenge! :)

As long as it's not Kaizo Edition or Air, I'll give it a play or two.

This game looks awesome.. Watching the trailer.. running around holding a hammer thrower taking everything out? awesome..
Pretty crazy how that split screen adapts dynamically too.. like the bottom player isn't always on the bottom, only if his character happened to be there when they split..
note to Nintendo: BUY OUT THESE PEOPLE AND PUBLISH THIS

I was saying that the game had piqued my interest to the point that I was willing to drop everything I was in the middle of on this partition and jump over to the Windows one with the sole intent of playing this game. I probably could've been more succinct, yes, but you can spare your condescending ellipses.

You can buy another game just like this for the Wii with better graphics and sound called NEW SUPER MARIO BROTHERS WII .
I find it odd that people will scream of joy when a fan makes a new 2d mario, but Nintendo makes a 2d mario they ignore it and bash and hate it.
