So there's a trailer out for Earthworm Jim HD. Don't worry, it looks just fine. Gameloft was even kind enough to toss in some footage of the game's new co-op levels. Heck, we even get to see some entirely new single-player levels, replete with jet-packing grandmas and ... keyboard cat.
That's all well and good, but what is up with Jim's voice? Maybe it's just the difference between old, muffled 16-bit samples and the modern sound clarity we enjoy today, but something seems off. Like "someone just grabbed the janitor and told him to say 'groovy' into a microphone" off. Come on, Gameloft. Surely someone over there has Tommy Tallarico's number*.
*Or Dan Castellaneta's.

I'm with you there, Although I knew i'd be picking it up since it was first announced...
Also wasn't the original voice of Jim; Doug TenNapel? I know Dan Castellaneta did the voice of Jim in the cartoon, But I'm pretty confident the original Jim was the creator Doug TenNapel.

Yea at the end of the video that groovy is definitely not groovy.

That "groovy" is NOT Earthworm Jim. The revamped graphics are worthless if they replaced his voice actor. I can't tell if all of his lines are replaced, but the few you heard in-game sounded like the original.

Aww, Microsoft pretending it's exclusive.
It's always so adorable!

Exclusive for a whole month. No sense in not releasing this cross platform, I say.

Perhaps, though I'm sure they had a hand in it.
Ah well, looks like I'm gamesharing this one!

I can't disagree with Ezio. MS does pay to have this done often. It is very misleading to people who aren't informed of what systems they are released on.

I'm pretty sure I didn't see the word "exclusive" anywhere in the trailer...

Sony does this for a LOT of multiplat games. Remember the Arkham Asylum ads? Just about all of them were branded with the Sony logo to promote the Joker DLC.
It's just a marketing practice to boost sales. No reason to get your panties in a twist.

Yes, many companies are at fault for doing the same thing. Doesn't change the fact that it's misleading. Sure nothing to get panties in a twist about, but some people may be steered wrong. It's harsh marketing tactics, but existing just the same.

I don't find the trailer misleading...
Is the game going to be released for xbla? Yes.
Is that the only marketplace you'll be able to find it in? No.
Did the trailer state that it was coming out exclusively for one network/platform or the other? Nope.

You may not find it misleading, but to the uneducated it can be. Considering the game is coming out on XBLA a month before other platforms, those uneducated people might not realize it. Just a simple observation is all.

I have to agree with Spike Spigel since I honestly did find the trailer misleading since there is no PSN logo anywhere on the trailer. Normally, there is a PSN, XBLA, &/or wii logo for a game that isn't an exclusive at the end of the trailer. If not for Spike Spigel's comment, I would have thought that the game was a Xbox exclusive.

I know this was yesterday, and I'll get down-ranked into oblivion again, but I wasn't trolling. Not intentionally at least.
My point was that stating that "Microsoft pretending it's exclusive" when the trailer was for the XBLA version of the game, is kin to a person bringing up the PS3's "superiority" because Halo 3 shouldn't be installed to the 360's hard drive. The tags for the article list both "Xbox" and "PlayStation," so any reader should be able to conclude that the game will come out on both systems.
Either I'm giving the average joystiq reader too much credit, or you're giving them too little.
It's probably the former.

it looks... the same. "HD" = widescreen? call me crazy but it doesn't look like much of an improvement over the 16bit. that said, the coop looks like it could be fun. guess we'll have to wait and see.

It's pretty smooth.

Please please PLEASE tell me this will come to the PS3 later on!!
And if so what is with Microsoft and that damn spinning orb at the end of these trailers/commercials? Off the top of my head GTA4 & the expansions plus MW had it. I'm guessing timed exclusives?

That makes sense. Sony's doing it now with Red Dead Redemption. Must've seen that commercial like a hundred times already.
