Rockstar's western opus, Red Dead Redemption, has saddled up and rode for first once again in the GFK Chart-Track derby. Even though it's suffered a 40% drop in sales -- likely a byproduct of those shortages -- it was enough to best UFC Undisputed 2010, which debuted at second place.
Also of note is the debut of Blur at the 14th spot -- well below Black Rock Studio's previously released arcade racing rival Split/Second (6th) and United Front Games' ModNation Racers (12th).

Well deserved. Finished all the single player stuff last night and couldn't be happier. Time to move onto more multiplayer goodness. Can't wait to see some DLC for this game.

just fyi, the game's not over til the credits come up. I agree though, this is probably my favorite game from the past few years. I never really liked westerns, but for some reason I loved this game.

First time I've seen "sense" spelled "since". Don't know if that's a typo, but the "i" and "e" are four keylongs away from each other. Just pointing that out, move along now.

@Munki: Agreed. I can't fathom how people think S/S is better than Blur.
Oh wait, sure I can. People forgot how to have fun when they aren't winning every race. Boo-f-ing-hoo.

Split/Second reminds me a lot of the first Burnout. An extremely fun, but in some ways simplistic, racer. It's extremely enjoyable but there is plenty of scope for improvement in sequels.
As for Blur, the beta was mildly entertaining. I loved how the weapons were always in the same spot - added a lot of strategy over other kart racers.

Blur vs. Split/Second. I wonder...
Oh and congrats to the incredible game that is Red Dead Redemption. It deserves every bit of praise.
And this goes out to every true gamer out there: Buy Alan Wake, you won't regret it. In my honest opinion, it's in the top 3 best games I've played this year.

Split Seconds cars handle so poorly, its not even close to what you think they should do until you do a ridiculous drift and then your car can go complelety sideways. Blur feels like how a racing game of its genre should feel. The power ups add a pretty nice twist to it, and its tracks are solid. Yeah it was ok the first time a tower came down in split second, but with great lag, comes great sadness.

I would like lassos in RDR's multiplayer please.
The ability to snag an opponent with one while riding a horse, and dragging him/her over rocks, hills, bushes, and fences is greatly needed.

Lassos would be amazing if they could somehow control abuse.

Ropes don't break? They should at least be shootable.

Yeah, easy fix to stop abuse of lasso... make a magic rule where ropes always break after 45 seconds.
Lol anyways, abuse in RdR lol. Have you played the free roam? I've spawn killed people for 20+ minutes where they couldn't go anywhere because I popped them in the head the second they spawned. That's what needs to be fixed in RdR + add lassosssss.

Cool, I have Split/Second and Red Dead Redemption at home. Its always kinda tough deciding when to play which. I've played Blur, but Split/Second is miles ahead of Blur when it comes to the funfactor.

I don't get the "Split/Second vs Blur" arguments.
They both stand their own ground, and are both good games in their own right.
Split/Second is a more simple and blockbuster style movie version of Burnout.
Blur is Wipeout meets PGR with insane online.
If I want crazy online play, Blur is my #1 choice. If I want a smaller, chaotic or interesting single player racing game, then Split/Second is my choice.
I don't see why it's one or the other. or why one is better than the other. They're both good again, in their own rights.

Just like movies...
And I think it's frustrating to see things like Deep Impact compared to Armageddon, yes they came out at the same time, but to say one is better than the other just because they have the same basic premise is...
Well I guess it makes sense.
Buy both. Switch it up based on what you feel like playing. They are two different games. Just like Battlefield and CoD are 2 different games in the same genre.

"It's the Infamous/Prototype of 2010." Very different games, yet so similar in theme.
S/S was a good rent and I'll continue with it later. Didn't have problems with rubber-banding AI like many reviews mentioned. Though it's a pretty boring game to be in first place all the time, because you can't "fire" backwards, so I see why that would have been a design choice.
Blur I paid full price for and enjoying every minute. Good races and bad, I have never laughed so much watching the mayhem that happens in a crowded online race. Campaign is fine too. Unlock lust FTW.

Solar - Good comparison although Infamous was all I needed. I didn't like Prototype and barely played it after renting it. Infamous I bought day 1 after playing the demo.
And you're also right in your minor breakdown of SS. I think the rubberband AI is just what this type of game needs when playing against the CPU. I thought it would bother me but I love it. Makes the game more exciting.

I thought Blur would trash Split/Second both in reviews and in sales, but apparently people like S/S. Blur has an infinitely better multiplayer aspect though, so maybe it'll have longer legs.
I tried both demos and Blur was 10x better IMO. The handling just didn't feel right in S/S and there wasn't much sense of speed. I did really like the HUD system on S/S though. Blur's online and 4 player split screen made it worth the purchase alone, but the gameplay is just more fun, deep and unpredictable. Glad people are enjoying both though.

RDR and SS are my "one, two combo", these days, with heavy emphasis on RDR. Love both games. Blur's not getting my money.

I'd be interested in seeing the marketing budgets for both blur and split second. Even though I watch little tv, I've seen the split/second ad quite a few times, yet I haven't seen Blur once. It doesn't surprise me that split/second beat out blur in sales.
You'd think these big ol companies would understand, but ya gotta promote your game to garner the sales.
