Level-5 opening office in Santa Monica

Professor Layton, Dragon Quest IX, and White Knight Chronicles developer Level-5 is moving forward with its plan to establish an office in the US. Level-5 International America Inc. will open in Santa Monica, California this September. The company will further expand in 2011 with an office somewhere in Europe.

CEO Akihiro Hino has said that these expansions are focused on releasing games overseas. At the very least, this should mean more localization staff, but it could also be a sign of Level-5 attempting to establish a publishing business outside of Japan. We're okay with there being a different logo on our Professor Layton games, as long as we have those games soon.

More Level 5 games over here is always a good thing.

They make (mostly) respectable games.

I support this entirely. Rogue Galaxy is an amazing RPG.

Aren't Level 5 also making Ninokuni? I'd love to see that game get localized.

Oh, and the other Professor Layton games too, of course.

The Another World? Yeah, they are. But I don't know if it has been announced outside of Japan.

I forget the relationship with Studio Ghibli and Disney. I think Disney holds all the rights for international release of Ghibli properties, but don't know if that includes games. Don't quote me on that.

Still, I doubt that Disney would stop the whole thing from proceeding, just it may get complicated.

Drop the three lame games (Im sorry I didnt like the games listed) and make a Dark Cloud 3 and a Rogue Galaxy 2. Kthxbai!

Just a note: Dragon Quest IX is "lame" purely cause its DS only.

I like how you said to drop three promising titles, then asked for a sequel to one of the worst RPGs on the PS2 (Rogue Galaxy).

Hopefully this will mean we won't have to wait nearly two years for White Knight Chronicle 2.

Hopefully means self-publishing overseas is going to start up. Not that they haven't been doing well enough getting the publishers they have (Sony and Nintendo have done great things for them)

I yearn for a Jeanne D'Arc sequel on PS3. I know it'll probably never happen but I'd like that more than anything. One of the best games ever created, IMO.
