Nintendo cuts DSi and DSi XL prices in Japan, announces new DSi XL colors

With the 3DS right around the corner, buying a DSi or DSi XL seems a bit foolish. Now, in Japan, it'll at least be a more cost-effective foolish decision, as Nintendo of Japan has announced price drops on both iterations of the DSi. The regular-size DSi drops in price on June 19 from ¥18,900 ($205.55) to ¥15,000 ($163.13), while the DSi XL drops from ¥20,000 ($217.51) to ¥18,000 ($195.76). The DS Lite is now "open price," meaning retailers can price it at their discretion.

In addition to the price drop, there will be three new colors of DSi XL available in Japan on June 19: blue, yellow, and green. These are a lot more fun than the previous luxury car colors for the giant handheld.

So Yellow, Green and Blue are words in Japanese?

If I've learned anything from Brain Age, blue IS NOT a word in Japanese.

I'm pretty sure the reason Blue doesn't work is because you have to say it in a weird American accent.

Of course if you're American then forget I said anything.

From the year I took of Japanese in high school and my shameless addiction to Anime and Manga I have found that the Japanese are far more intelligent than many other countries around the world. Undergraduate school in America is basically equivalent to high school in Japan. Many Japanese find the American culture fascinating. Japan does a great deal of business with America and they usually have to learn basic English in order to pass high school, so I don't really find it odd that simple English colors like green and blue are in this ad.

of course yellow, blue and green are words in japanese. just cause they wrote in english doesn't mean there isn't a japanese kanji for it. Seriously use your head.

If the colors are for japan why is the ad with english text?

Also yellow is ugly color. I don't get it when sports car have it and I don't get why its cool here. Not cool looking at all.

Green is ok, Blue is pretty good

I had a yellow Ford Escape. Loved the color. Sure is easy to find in a mall parking lot.

Well I've already got my DSi XL. Bought it like a month ago after realizing I don't give a crap about 3D.

Just like saying I'll buy a GAMECUBE in March 2006 and say I don't care about motion controls. The 3DS is much more than just 3d it's the next generation of DS. It will have better graphics and features than current DSi

+1 WINterfang. He's missing out on whats probably going to be the first time in history a console manufacturers handheld machine is more powerful than their home console and he's throwing it away because of an optional feature. Way to fail more Qurao.

That being said, since i just saw Monster vs Aliens in 3D yesterday, i am far more keen for the 3DS now!

If I would have ended up replacing my phat with anything it would have been an XL but with the 3DS looming on the horizon ....... I think I'll just hold out till that comes out.

Still you can't fault them for their marketing .......... it works .........

hell back in the days of the original gameboy I knew .... well not knew but knew of people who collected every color just to collect them.

Wait, the original Game Boy came in a color other than grey?

Yeah it came in Black, Yellow, Red and I think a few other colors trying to recall but I think they also had an official transparent gameboy release. Can't recall if it was a slimmer model of the original gameboy I don't recall my black gameboy being any smaller than my original.

@WINterfang I have the purple transparent CBC. Still works and gets some playability with the OG pokemon games. Ahhh, remember the days when stuff didnt break. I mean, Im on my 3rd Xbox already and 2nd DS, but one GBC is lasting about 13 years now.

@VioletArrows Nope, the original Gameboy certainly did have an array of colors. I had a fat green one. Ohhh the memories of playing Kirby's Dreamland for the first time. :3

A swift kick to those who went out and bought the brown or red colours (got the brown myself). I'd love a Yellow myself.

I would have honestly gotten the red still even after these to be completely honest.

I think I waited too long to sell my DS lite...

The DS lite is the final DS version to play GBA games. DSi, DSiXl do not play GBA games and I highly doubt 3DS will have GBA port as well.

I'm keeping my DS Lite and buying a 3DS.

Flaws in your logic:

Boktai. Metroid. Golden Sun. Warioware. Fire Emblem. Final Fantasy Tactics. Jet Grind Radio. Drill Dozer. Gunstar Heroes. Legend of Zelda (debatable).

I could keep going if you want.

I just got my DS Lite a couple months ago to replace my original launch ds.

I'm with Adv2k1, I look forward to the 3DS but I refuse to ditch the GBA slot so I'll be keeping my Lite. I'd keep the GBA slot for Zero Mission and Fusion alone, I absolutely LOVE those games and Metroid Prime: Hunters doesn't quite cut it.

Speaking of which, how about a new 2D Metroid on the 3DS, Nintendo? Please?

Even if they do the same here in the US..... I'll just wait for the 3DSi

and from the looks of it, it seems that we'll be needing to save our money for it. Starfox 64 had me sold already, though.

That blue is the exact shade of blue I've been waiting for to come out as a color choice for a handheld. The cobalt blue was too dark.

Why the heck did they start out with such terrible colors in the first place? They should have started with at least one of these in the bunch.

I want a blue DSI XL. Heck, a DSI XL in general, but with E3 and the 3D model coming it seems a wait is in order.

Now I'm kinda torn. I really liked that wine/burgundy color, but green is a pretty unique color when it comes to Nintendo stuff. I wonder if that yellow is really school bus yellow in person or is it something lighter...

While I really like the Game of Death/Kill Bill-esque theme the yellow one's got going on, I can't fathom why they won't just release it in blaaaaaack!

Sorry Helluvagood, didn't know the language police were on duty. I was just pointing out its all in Japanese apart from those colours. And that I wonderd whether or not they actually said "Blue".

Clearly you are the Japanese expert however, so.. yeah.
