New logo, since most of the old people are gone, and the company today isn't anything like it was in the past.

No companies are like they were in the past. Let's be realistic. Good games are still being made, no doubt, but they sure don't make them like they use to.

I agree. They should have done this earlier. Pink is fine with me. It used to be that basically everything they did was crack. Back in the SNES and N64 days, we got Donkey Kong Country, GoldenEye, Banjo... Then we got the Microsoft 'we sold out and don't care anymore era' and it's just sad. It used to be that you could count on everything they did being awesome, on the 360 you can basically count on everything they did sucking hard core.

Sure some of their stuff got good reviews, but seriously... be honest with yourself... did you *really* love Viva Pinata? Or PDZ?

What's sad is that they have literally become the antithesis of what they used to be. It used to be that their stuff was so consistently good I would give them the benefit of the doubt and just buy their new games, because I was continually impressed. Now it's the opposite, I avoid their games like they plague because no matter what the reviews have said I basically know the game is going to suck if it's from Rare. Heck, I've heard Nuts & Bolts is pretty interesting... but I'm too scared to even try it because I'm still haunted by how much the last few games by them that I played suck.

It's just sad, and that's why I'm happy about the new logo. If they could go and retroactively plant it on all of their 360 titles that would be great too.

Sorry, Viva Pinata was... is crack. It was the only game that I could start playing at 3pm, look up at 11pm and be like, "whut!" Not only that, it was the only game that my fiance could play for the same length of time and be like, "whut!"

Now, that Nuts and Bolts game... Yeah, they could have kept that.

Interesting to hear, I'll have to give Viva Pinata another try. I was *extremely* put off by the way way too long tutorial you have to trudge through before you even play, so by the time I got to the gameplay itself I guess I didn't give it enough of a chance. I don't have as much time to game these days as I used to (kids) so the ones that take too long to get started often get dropped. Guess I should have given Rare the benefit of the doubt that I used to, or they should have let you start doing anything interesting in the first 15 minutes... Thanks for the tip.

Personally, I think N&B is awesome. It's one of my favorite games this generation and highly underrated. Too many people were too quick to write it off because it was based on completing tasks with vehicles.

New logo, eh? Well, they're not really the same company as they were in the day, so I guess they may as well.

i liked rare's other logo and tbh this is the final step in a whole brand new Rare that has nothing to do with the Epicness that was the original.

It's perfectly fitting considering how Rare is no longer hot whatsoever. Perhaps warm a few times, but unless they grow a brain and get a clue I doubt anyone will care when they go out of business due to being idiots.

Harsh? So is going from a top tier developer to the ranks of Duke Nukem Forever.

harsh? Nah, Rare hasnt really put out one good game since they got bought by MS. (Im sorry, but its true... :/) - Now, if they made "Banjo-Kazooie: Threeie" then i'd probably love them again.. unless it sucks. :]

lol - wait - that's sarcasm, right? Is that gold thing really their old logo or a photoshop pisstake somebody made? Because that thing is horrific. It's like a disaster area where good logos go to die. A logo black hole that sucks in all other logos with its astonishing gravitational ugliness...

The new logo is okay. Maybe now they've got a logo that isn't shit, they can come up with some better games? I dunno, I haven't played any of their recent ones anyhow.

I'm pretty sure they had a healthy dose of inspiration from the 2012 Olympics logo, that thing comes in all kinds of colours and patterns. However, there will be a set 'corporate' logo which they will use 95% of the time that will appear on game boxes and merchandise.

And now, the new theme song to go with the new logo:

You've lost that 90s feeling.
Whoa-oh, that 90s feeling.
You've lost that 90s feeling,
Now it's gone, gone, gone.

Compare and contrast the old and new logos: the old had navy blue and gold, two strong in-yo-face colors.

These new ones use a soft shade of grey and baby-blue/yellow/purple. It's totally the Wii effect.

I agree with most of the other comments. The old logo had more style, was more unique, was more recognizable within the gaming community, had a great history to it, and so on and so forth.

This new logo looks a lot more plain. It just feels like they took the style and fun out of it. :(

I hope they stay in the industry another 25 years too (in at least some positive form), but only if they keep making epic games. I hear their recent games have been good, but I'd still rather see them make a game similar to DKC or Goldeneye/PD that is of the same quality too.

It looks like an insurance company or a grocery retailer's logo now. The 'R' is almost iconic though -- gamers would know what it means but people outside of gaming wouldn't.

Haha, what? I assume that by decades you're using hyperbole, but even assuming you just mean their games since they joined Microsoft, you gotta be kidding me. Their quality is debatable, but the originality of something like Viva Pinata is pretty evident.

There was never a "Killer Instinct 2 Gold".

It was "Killer Instinct 2" and "Killer Instinct Gold",

There is a difference between the 2 games. Killer Instinct 2 used prerendered backgrounds, Killer Instinct Gold used realtime 3D backgrounds, and was missing a few stages. A few differences between that.

i dont think they're going to use that one because the ps1 startup logo was a gold diamond.

i feel like its going to be a green hexagon (green because xbox sorta a nod to their ms partner) and hexagon because its the most unique.

Looks like they opened up Microsoft Word, picked a random font, and typed in Rare.

Thinking of Rare's latest track, that probably took them a few months to finalize. The old logo is much better.
