Oh God, this is probably going to start a trend.

Please, Activision, I beg of you, whatever you do with DJ Hero 2, do not, I repeat, DO NOT make its "hook" some shameful ripoff of another classic game like this crap. I do not want to play "Boom Boom Pow vs. Satisfaction" while simultaneously swinging on a vine above a giant hole in the ground.

Literally on his knees right now,

Tre

Wait a minute, I thought the Guitar Hero meets WoW was only an April Fool's joke. Axel Steel and Eddie Riggs already look nearly identical, and the description makes it sound like brutal legend. It is...WoW, with a little Transformers thrown into Guitar Hero... WTF? *head explodes*

So this is the sequel to Infamous and Guitar Hero 5?

Are they even allowed to DO that?

Lovely selection of tracks of songs that are already available for Rock Band, with a few exceptions that I'm sure we'll see when Rock Band 3's setlist is announced at E3.

And good job on using one of the songs from Brutal Legend for the trailer... which oddly doesn't seem to be in the tracklist at all unless I'm remembering the song's title wrong!

Children of the Grave, by Black Sabbath

It is on the list. What it isn't, however, is enough for me to buy this one. Can't stand playing with those toy guitars anymore...

Looking forward to seeing that other guitar game (powergig, I think that's the name) in action - the first and only trailer was really, really lame, and it looks like a new definition of fail, so far. But I'd rather try a 'guitar tutorial' than another plastic guitar thing with weird and ugly characters.

No evidence, but I think a lot of people will be surprised if Bohemian Rhapsody isn't in RB3. I'm actually kind of surprised it's in this, given that "guitar" focus they're pushing for this (although I guess its popularity probably shouldn't make it too surprising)

Not a terrible list. Still, as a party gamer when it comes to GH/RB, I'm not sure what new mechanics they have to offer me - they already pretty much nailed it in GH5, and RB3 will no doubt combine said party features with Harmonix's innate grasp of music (something Neversoft has never quite duplicated; GH always feels to me like it was designed by people who love video games, whereas RB feels like its designers love music).

How is Rock Band "for music lovers" more than Guitar Hero?! This is just common music snobbery hidden behind game snobbery.

The Guitar Hero drum mappings are infinitely closer to what the drummer is playing than in Rock Band (where they don't even have the sticking patterns right half the time), and neither even come close to simulating playing a guitar or singing in register. And don't get me started on the terrible fill system in Rock Band.

So how is it so significantly different as a game? The graphics? The menus? All the DLC you can buy and never play online because no one else has it? The number of released titles? As far as I can tell, they're essentially the same game with equal parts fun, with Guitar Hero having major improvements in the drums department.

I mean, I guess so. Rock Band does get better playlists and can do a single-band game with a lot more care, but Neversoft kicks absolute ass at making note patterns. So, do you want your game to be more fun to listen to or play?

Honestly, I have Beatles Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5, and I'm never going to need another guitar game.

Chilly P@ Wow, I actually feel the reverse about Neversoft's note patterns, if we're talking about guitar charting. It's probably the only reason why I soured on the GH games in the first place (although WT was quite questionable overall).

I suppose it depends on your take. I could imagine Neversoft's charting being more awesome if you're all about the challenge. But as a guy who never goes above hard nowadays (back in the day I could get to psychobilly freakout on expert for what its worth) I prefer RBs charts.. not necessarily because they're easier - although that could be it partially - but moreso because I (as a non-guitarist) actually feel more like I'm playing the music, whereas GH is more like I'm playing a game.

Totally dependant on a persons interpretation of the immersion though.

@jsx Obviously, you're not a real drummer. There's no good way to replicate even a simple 5-piece set on to a group of 4 drum pads with or without cymbals. I'm left scratching my head on either game during a lot of drum parts, especially when I know I can play the entire song on my real drums at my jam house.

@Ryan: I'm a fine drummer, there's no song I can't play in these games with ease on my Roland kit (GH MIDI in FTW) and I can play them fine without the game. But my friend blows me away 1000x over, is a drum teacher, went to Berklee for drums, and agrees with all of my sentiments on the matter. But way to try to insult me.

this looks like guitar hero 3 legends of ROCK

famous celebrity or two as the face of the game (just like slash and whatever the other guitar man was)
punk and metal sluts barely clothed and giant beefy men who turn into pigs literally (yes so was 3, you just didn't transform into a "warrior")
songs that aren't really legendary or rock and roll??? CHECK CHECK
muse, offspring, FALL OUT BOY, dragon force, AFI, avenged sevenfold, my chemical romance, ect. (most of these bands were in guitar hero 3)

battle to defeat "the beast"??
this ISN'T the devil, satan? oh yes, ANOTHER charlie daniel's band cover *shudder* better not be the surprise finale.

Guitar Hero 3 Legends of Rock
Guitar Hero 6 Warriors of Rock

Glad to see the series has come so FAR!

Really? People are already 'choosing' Rock Band 3 over Warriors of Rock, when they know almost nothing about the former? Before you downvote me (which I'm sure is going to happen regardless because I didn't instantly say something bad about Activision, or Kottick, or Neversoft, or whatever), I'm not even a fan of the music game genre anymore, so I'm not a 'fanboy' of either series, though I've played plenty of both. I used to be a Day 1 purchaser of anything Guitar Hero until they started making endless broken peripherals, and Rock Band still comes out a fair amount of parties. I'm just saying, why not wait and see (and better yet - wait and play!) before making your choice?

It's a music game, and it was supposed to be about "Shred", if you think the choice of music is poor, then you're not going to like it regardless of the gameplay, because if you don;t like the music you're not going to play it, I mean there are some good ones in there but y'know...

probably because rock band did what guitar hero took 4 games to do, then did it better with a sequel. Then guitar hero did it all again, but was more about image and commercial success, rather than music, and people are wondering what could possibly be left for a third rockband, when six guitar hero games now have achieved just what rock band 2 has had this whole time.

For a few reasons. One, I hate how Guitar Hero is handled by Activision. Two, the Rock Band store. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain that every song form Rock Band 1, 2, and all of the DLC will work with 3. Guitar Hero has been very unreliable when it comes to that, and though I give Activision props for trying, it's too late. I used to be a huge Guitar Hero fan, and if you were to actually look over my posts on here you can watch the change unfold.
