Well played sir, well played indeed. Regardless of the crossover of tracks, this one has a promising set list so far. At least it is better than GH5 with the current information available.

This song made me buy Brutal Legend (which isn't that fun and is now $20). This song now, makes me want to buy this game (which, most probably, isn't that fun). Damn you Black Sabbath for your awesome music!!! Jun jujujuju Jun jujujuju Jun jujujuju JUN JUN!

well the track list still sucks huge mountains of cock. So Activision still hasn't taken a cue from Harmonix and attempted to show any affection for music. Still aiming for the pubescent crowd, I see.

back to Rock Band.

OmegaVader, you dropped an obscene, homophobic statement about a video game, then accused that video game of pandering to the pubescent crowd? Pot, meet kettle.

But you make a strong point. I'm so tired of pubescent kids annoying me with their love for Anthrax, Black Sabbath, The Cure, Def Leppard, Dire Straits, Foreigner, Jane's Addiction, Jethro Tull, Kiss, Megadeth, Metallica, Ozzy, Nine Inch Nails, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Slayer, and ZZ Top. I mean, those are all the favorite bands of youngsters these days.

Strong point indeed.

I love watching the mindless masses of the internet all assimilate into one unanimous chorus of negativity, free of the burden of any personal thought or interest.

You know why I like Guitar Hero better than Rock Band? Because I prefer round buttons on screen over square ones. There. I said it. That's my entire basis for claiming one product to be unquestionably superior to another almost identical product. My logic is infallible and proves unquestionably that Guitar Hero is superior in every way to Rock Band.

See how stupid that sounds?

The truth is that both of these franchises should have changed their business model a long time ago. When you go to the store and buy Guitar Hero or Rock Band it shouldn't even include any songs, much less guitars and microphones and drums and turntables and keytars and triangles and pan flutes. You should take the game home, add the songs you already purchased for previous versions, open up the store and pay for new songs that YOU want. Peripherals should be sold separately so that the customer can pick the ones they want/need without all the other garbage they don't.

As it is now BOTH companies are taking advantage of you. When you buy one of their games you're almost certainly paying for numerous songs that you aren't the least bit interested in. No matter which game you buy, GH6 or RB3, you're still paying for a bunch of crap you didn't want.

PS - It's kind of ridiculous to claim that Rock Band is the better game for "musicians" or people who just really love music and playing music. Neither comes anywhere remotely close to the experience of actually playing a musical instrument. If you really love music and playing music you should probably invest your time and money and effort into, like, actually playing and creating music.

True enough on most points, but if everyone bought only the songs they liked, you'd never find anyone online to play with. The Rock Band DLC library is too big for it's own good. I buy an album in DLC then go online to play and no one ever has it. There are RB songs I've downloaded and never played, and I've put 100s of hours into GH:WT and only ever found 2-3 people who downloaded the Phish and Jimi Hendrix songs...

Did you ever think for one minute that maybe that song you hadn't heard before might be good if you tried playing along to it? I used to detest Avenged Sevenfold, absolutely detest them, but dammit if their songs aren't fun to play on drums. These games have opened my ears to lots of artists that I used to be adverse to for one reason or another, and especially ones I have never heard of. I don't just use it for a party jukebox or try to "learn" a new instrument, I use it to discover new and old music on common grounds, in an environment that forces me to be all ears.

Even if there are some artists or songs included on a track list that you aren't familiar with, chances are still good that there are some artists you ARE familiar with and just don't like. If you've been living in a cave for 30 years and are just now trying to catch up with all the music that's been released in that time frame you can still go to YouTube and listen to all these songs for free and/or go to iTunes or Amazon.com and buy all of them individually after listening to samples. There are better ways to find new music than spending $60+ on what's essentially an interactive NOW! compilation.

I'm just sayin'. I know that I don't like Michael Jackson, I would never choose to buy or play a Michael Jackson song, so I don't want to be forced into paying for that song when I purchase the game just so that I can roll my eyes when I have to play through it once in career mode.

Hey! That is far too much logic for a GH or RB thread! You backed up your argument and everything! We don't have room for that kind of level-headed thinking in the Joystiq realm of wanton GH hatred. Well played....

Now if we can just get rid of AFI, Anthrax, Avenged Sevenfold, The Cure, DragonForce, Drowning Pool, Fall Out Boy, KISS, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Nine Inch Nails, Silversun Pickups, and Slipknot we'll have a good tracklist there.

Ugh. The arrogance. Video games are not marketed solely at you. If there's songs you don't like, here's a novel idea, DON'T BOTHER WITH THEM

Well, now you've eliminated hardcore, thrash, industrial, power metal, pop punk, nu metal, classicrock and goth rock, among others. What do you want, Country Hero? Extreme Norwegian Black Metal Hero?

The only thing that will save this now is a set-list. If the set-list is extremely good, I'll purchase.

But not on release. Hell no. GH5 is still about $90 AUD.

@jsx92 ...or, you could pick 5-10 favorite songs from a massive setlist, and the matching system could check to see if anybody wants to play those. If not, then you get a random song matchup. That'd be kewl.

Besides, if you want to play a certain song, it's just as fun alone as it is online, IMO.

It's a statistical mess, you'd end up playing the same "...And Justice For All" over and over again, and your favorite indie songs would rarely ever show up, if ever. They already rarely show up, stripping the base list would only make the crickets chilling in the Rock Band Quickplay lobbies that much louder.

If everyone had to purchase songs on their own instead of just sticking with the base track list you'd be much more likely to find people who had the songs you wanted. I think a lot of people are either turned off of DLC tracks because they don't know enough about it or because they don't feel like spending more money than they already spent to get the tracks that came with the game, even if they don't like many of them.

@toddcore Than why does everyone in Rock Band have the Metallica 3-pack? I rarely ever encounter anyone with zero DLC.

I have ~250 DLC songs, and once encountered someone with 400, and when the list showed up, we had maybe 20 in common. Whenever there's more than 2 people everyone seems to have the Metallica songs, and maybe a Blink 182, Rush or Paramore song and that's about it.

The fact is, the more DLC the less chance of having songs in common. Compare to the real world, look at total album sales for the year, then look at album sales for whatever CDs you bought. Unless you bought the top ten albums, you're in the minority.

I didn't know there were so many people with bad taste in music here, sorry I offended your delicate sensibilities.

But really, only like one or two of those bands are even slightly debatable.

Okay, so we have established that you don't care for anything anyone has ever heard of. So, what is YOUR idea of good music then? Dismissing everything from the get-go doesn't give us much to work with here.

Wow, all I care about is Waidmanns Heil, if THAT shit is in the final setlist, thats by far good enough for me to buy the game. Finally Activision is getting it. The new Rammstien is freaking AWESOME on drums...
Over and out.
