Yeah, and people die when they are killed. Thanks, Captain Obvious.

Whoa!

That actually looks pretty cool. Reminds me a bit of Dark Void though - the kind of game that is SUPER fun for the first hour or so, but after that gets kind of boring.

I'll definitely keep an eye on this one.

Yessss! I knew Mikami could do it. That dude literally can’t make a bad game. This game is going to be awesome and probably a little campy and a little cheesy, but the fast pacing and the over the top craziness that is depicted in the trailer has me jonesing. Did you guys see that cannon spike at around 30 seconds in? Damn. Just when I was starting to get rid of my Street Fighter addiction. Oh well, time to pwn some fools with Cammy online. :)

Looks like Japanese games are making a bit of a comeback. I'm stoked, hope you don't have to beat it on "lame" before you can play through it with any real challenge.

More like "westernized" than "comeback" because of all the shooting there is.

To be fair, Platinum is ex-clover guys. Who were ex-capcom.
Basically this whole team is ex-capcom, and Capcom has always been sort of their own 'thing'.

@Ballistic H Why on earth did i get downvoted for that one?
And call it westernized all you want but what I see is bullet-hell in high speed third person action game form.. sounds pretty frikken Japanese to me.

Looks ok.. but the dialogue is pretty bad.

"We have approximately 8 hours to stop that from happening. We will........ stop that from happening."

Well, the "we will be victorious" bit was bad. The president's not gonna say "victorious", normally people don't say that either (unless they say "emerge victorious", or "come out victorious", anything to precede it that's not "will be").

My biggest problem with that part of dialogue was that Steve Blum was voicing it. Blum's voice does not fit a hulking, old soldier. And plus I just hate Blum's voice and how common it is in video games.

Steve Blum... please take a vacation for a few years! You've done your part. Now take a break!

If you hope to be taken seriously, never EVER end your game's trailer with the line "this is gonna be fun."

If the gameplay technique of Vanquish is even more developed than Bayonetta, this game will kick asses. I just hope to not see a cinematic every 2 minutes like in Bayonetta.

Yeah, a "sweet jesus" trailer (whatever that means). Looks fast paced, has good set pieces (as much as I hate to use those words when talking about a video game).

I didn't feel too great about the game at first, but now I'm so sold.

Didn't know they decided to keep it single player. I guess that's the good thing about Japanese making video games (because I generally don't play any, since I don't like most JRPGs, and I don't care for anthropomorphic robots, just my quirk), they actually have more integrity, and they care. Companies nowadays are always "oh we need to add multiplayer to that. Multiplayer!" That's especially rare to have a FPS without multi. Bold.

No no no. Those are both way too Western in design. Not that I can think of a JRPG-style game not made in Japan at the moment.

A semi-linear narrative driven entirely by pre-made characters with total emphasis on their background and development and the overall story of the world they're in. While you make it through this world with your party of chosen pre-defined characters (you can pick which ones you leave behind in the flying ship and which ones go with you) you can also start building inter-personal character relationships.

Am I talking about Final Fantasy 7 or am I talking about Mass Effect 2?

Just modernize the combat from turn based to real time third person and viola. The original style of WRPG would be more something like NWN2: Storm of Zehir or the Fallouts.

Well, the line doesn't really make sense without whatever preceded it.

Stop WHAT from happening?

"Bleeding heart alien hippies are delivering food and medicine to starving third world orphans; we've got approximately 8 hours to stop that from happening. We WILL stop that from happening!"

Well, I'm not on board for that one...

"Gwen Stefani is releasing a new studio album; we've got approximately 8 hours to stop that from happening. We WILL stop that from happening!"

Okay, that I'm on board for.

"Howie Mandel is receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award; we've got approx. 8 hours to stop that from happening. We WILL stop that from happening!"

Oh, let him have his moment.

"ShooShooShooMF is going to keep going with this gag until he kills it; we've got approximately 8 hours to stop that from happening. We WILL stop that from happening!"

Um, okay I'll stop. Sorry. :(

Turns out "on board" is one word, and then when I first watched the video I was like "Eh, the graphics aren't that good..." and then I realized I was watching it in SD.

Something's wrong with my brain. It aint' functioning properly.

Just hope that they learn from Bayonetta's porting disaster, and don't make a bad port of the 360 version.

I know I'm probably alone in this opinion, but I don't mind that the Bayonetta port wasn't quite as good as the 360 version. I only have a PS3, but I enjoyed the game immensely nonetheless, and I'm just happy to have had a chance to play it. I'm glad that Platinum put all their effort into making a very good game without worrying about silly things like console parity. They're different systems after all, even a game they share is allowed to be at least a little different on each one.

Didn't the developers for Ghostbusters say the same thing about the PS3 port? http://talkplaystation.com/ps3-is-lead-platform-for-ghostbusters/
We all know how that turned out:
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/17/ghostbusters-on-ps3-lags-behind-360-version-developer-explains/
I think they should just stop dicking us around and just release it for one sytem like they should've for Bayonetta. If you don't know how to properly port your games to other systems, then don't give your customers such bullshit. That's something Activision would do.
