French gaming news site PS3Gen recently got its hands on a few photos purportedly leaked from the next installment in the MotorStorm franchise. The images depict a collapsing, derelict version of San Francisco, where racers must negotiate ruined streets, toppling skyscrapers and -- if the norms of past games in the series remain -- other racers, who are probably driving vehicles that are so much larger than their own.
Though PS3Gen doesn't mention where the images came from, they certainly look legit. Between these and the Motorstorm 3 domain registration filed in February, we wouldn't be surprised if this was one of Sony's major players during its E3 press conference.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

Hope this is true. I love the Motorstorm series. Looks like E3 will be stuff we already heard about due to leaks

Well, with all these "leaks" they get a lot of attention in the pre-E3 weeks. If they had announced everything at E3 they may have made the best show, but then they would have to fight over the publicity. When E3 finally comes, there is a flood of gaming news, and its easy to miss some of them. At least now they get the spotlight mostly for themselves.

It is going to take place in a post apocalyptic San Fransisco. With alot more emphasis on environmental destruction during the races, like buildings falling down etc.

This is the first actual "leak" that Sony did not want to get out.
All of the others, were PLANNED to be revealed BEFORE E3.
We still have Starhawk, Syphon Filter, and probably one other big returning franchise or new one.
Not to mention more Move titles that are built from the ground up to take advantage of all the Move has to offer. CORE title or titles.

I don't know about this, if it's true. Part of MotorStorm's draw, at least for me, was how truly natural and out-in-the-wild the courses of the previous two games were. A MotorStorm taking place in a city, even an apocalyptic one, just doesn't read MotorStorm to me.

I'm actully glad i'm not the only one that thinks this.
Hey Is Everyone Ready To Race Bikes and ATV'S AND MONSTER TRUCKS ON A ... road ?
i'm sorry but it doesn't really sound right .. now if they took Different Locations Around The World For People Too Race In Like Arizona And Texas And mix it up abit with snow like here in Canada or Alaska ETC that would be cool .. but a city ?
Motorstorm was really IMO the only Racing Game that didn't take place in a city ( only dirt tracks or in the outdoors and not in a Arena ) that got it right but i have too say .. if i was to buy a game it would be the 2nd one as i own the first and can't complete the Hardest difficulty levels and didn't buy it cause their were games higher on my list too buy then the 2nd installment. Sorry but i got no interest in this motorstorm.

Yeah I agree, to a point, but constantly treading the same theme isn't really a solution. I'll take scaling a recenlty toppled building and then use it as a ramp while running over zombies, over just driving past trees, dirt and grass any day.

I also agree with your statement, Matt G. Post-apocalyptic just doesn't sound like MotorStorm, but then again who knows? It could be a lot of fun if they do it right. Taking into perspective a "realistic" look at post-apocalyptic life, the cities and metropolis' of the world would be wrecked concrete jungles overgrown with an abundance of plant and wildlife. The whole crumbling buildings thing sounds a bit like Split/Second. Whatever happens, I just hope they fix the abundance of glitches from previous entries in the franchise.
Off topic: How many God damn sequels is Sony going to announce? Were all of their "original" thoughts exclusive to last year and earlier this year?!

I have to agree with the general sentiment. Motorstorm's natural, open environments are what make it feel refreshing and fun.
I don't need more rust brown broken debris to make me enjoy my game more.
After playing Mario Galaxy 2, I think I understand the appeal of bright, colorful skies over gritty 'realism'.

By elastic-band racing, I think he means automatic catch-up. I hate how no matter how good you raced in Motorstorm, how fast you went, the AI always followed you. You can force them to crash, they still catch up. Crash 1 or 2 times and you lose the race.

Damn.
Even with all of this coming out before the show, Sony has an amazing E3 lined up.
Let's just hope there are still a few surprises to be had.

Wow, this should be really interesting if it is true, that is. I'm not sure how well motorstorm would work in a city, but I'll wait and see for solid details.

Will they fix the game-breaking handling issues that blighted the first two and actually implement predictable car control?
Posted: Jun 6th 2010 4:56PM Pure Black World Tendency said
I had no issues with the handling, and I played Pacific Rift quite a lot. Maybe you are referring to vehicles handling differently on the different surfaces in the game (mud, water etc)?

Yeah. Another site stated that the setting was a sort of post-apocalyptic San Francisco-esque locale. Kinda makes sense with the "toppling derelict buildings and ruined streets" that Joystiq here mentioned.

Yeah, right? Even though this is probably an unofficial leak, it's still silly. The only time something like this should officially happen is if there's even crazier stuff to be announced at E3. Otherwise, it totally ruins their E3 presentation.

Yeah the Sony line up is great on the Microsoft side the only thing I'm looking for is Gears of War 3. Mass Effect 3 on the Sony side, If Sony was able to get that license for PS3 Release, This year is going to Sony.

Weird thing is, this isn't even a proper leak. They were planning on announcing it before E3 anyway,
Same with all the other games that have been announced recently - all were intentionally announced before E3. Really weird. I think they're announcing all their games now, and will just use E3 for Move.

tbh honest I don't like them going post apocalyptic (we already have tons of those types) they should place it in a snowy setting but still gonna be great

I agree some what, as i said in a above reply i think they should mix it up.
too many games are post apocolyptic and past apocolyse stage or whatever, this is a racing game for crying out loud ! going in this direction is stupid.
what next Parappa The Rappa Rapping in Apocolypse Enviroments but you never know since their taking motorstorm in this direction.

It looks like there's peds rioting in the middle of the track in some screens, this might get surprisingly dark if you can run them over.
