For some reason I always get excited about these games, get hyped by all the positive reviews, and ultimately get disappointed by how boringly repetitive these games are.

/Sigh

Will this one be different?

No, and this one in particular is quite challenging.

The major new feature beside local multiplayer is a fully customizable Hero which is something people were wanting for this series though.

Considering DQ games pretty much pride themselves on keeping with tradition, probably not.

Check out Dragon Quest 8 (Journey of the Cursed King) for the PS2. It's one of the best DQ games of the series (my other favs being 6 and 4). Cor Blimey! :)

The PSX version of DQ IV has been ported to DS if you'd prefer handheld gaming.

I hope this game has a pretty good story. I will probably never end up using the multi-player features and I hope when they say epic quests in the trailer that its not wow like go into towns and take quests which you complete for minor rewards. I was a huge fan of 8 I hope this game is at least as good.
