Enslaved: Odyssey to the West set free from its bounds in October

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West will bring its post-apocalyptic action to retail in October, according to the E3 trailer released today by publisher Namco Bandai.

But release date news isn't all the trailer has to offer! It's loaded with melodrama, suspense and lots of action, as ~~Goku and Bulma~~ Monkey and Trip try to navigate a perilous future version of New York. There's even a guy with some Borg-style junk on his face! That's how you know it's the future! Well, that and the mechs, which seem to really freak Trip out.

Fantastic trailer. Slick animations. A bright and colorful world to explore. Nice platforming and combat. And it's the Heavenly Sword developer (Ninja Theory). I just hope it's longer than 5 hours...

Something's... wrong with the stuff they are showing in this trailer. It feels off, like the normal mapping is messed up or something. Admittedly, though, it may be the sub-HD quality of this video. Hopefully I will find a better version soon so I can see the difference.

Either way, I'm still looking forward to this. I should probably also check out the actual Journey to the West so I don't miss any references.

Am I seeing things or did they just resurrect Nariko for this game? Not complaining, just amusing the similarities in character design.

The director probably has a boner for hot redheads that can kick ass. I know I do. mmmmmmmmm red-heads

This looks really good from a storytelling and gameplay perspective, but I'm not sold on the visual style. The gritty voice and post-apocalyptic setting doesn't fit with all the color and for some reason the robots just seemed dumb to me, like they were overdesigned visually. I'm not saying it should look like Fallout 3 or Killzone 2, but it really shouldn't look like Jak and Daxter either.

I was actually gonna comment on how much I liked the visual 'Jak and Daxter'-esque style. It looks nice with the vibrant colours compared to the doom and gloom visuals of fallout 3 (which i think almost put me off proper getting into it).

Jak and Daxter is EXACTLY what sprang to mind when I saw it too. 1:17 Is just like Jak's hover board.
This trailer really got me excited for this game. I can hear my wallet crying every time I watch this.

I guess it's mostly that main character. The environments look amazing, but the character models look like cartoon characters. That guy is the worst.

this looks like it could be a pretty cool game, one to watch for sure.

This looks really, really good. Getting the same sort of vibe I got from Beyond Good & Evil, definitely one of my most anticipated titles.

This trailer gave me that vibe too, the other stuff for it hasn't. This one seemed more colorful and personable that the other one, so maybe that's what brought it out.

And anything that give a BG&E vibe is good.

I'll be very excited if this game is more adventure than action (or at least 50/50)

After reading an English translation of Journey to the West I have to say there is a lot of cool stuff that can be done with the story. Heck, look at DBZ.

I'm putting it on the table that there is a wise talking character named Pig and he will be voiced by Nathan Drake - I mean - Nolan North.

This looks great I enjoyed Heavenly Sword! This should be good!

I liked what I saw of the characters. I like cartoony style to a point, and from the brief voiceovers in the trailer, it looks like Monkey won't be annoyingly stupid and Trip won't be annoyingly whiny.

Did anyone else see those mechs, and heard the story, and then thought of the move "9"? Giant leapord killing machine, hunting down the last survivors after a cataclysmic war...

I did! I did! Everyone else pointed out obscure vibes they got, and it is so totally nine (from the perspective you mention).

Cool game, but i already hate the chick....

I grew up watching chinese cartoons based on Journey to the West, its like... the chinese equivalent of cinderella... if cinderella was an epic masterpiece detailing a metaphorical and literal quest to bring buddhism to China.The cyborg pig guy in one frame is probably part of their party, which the monkey king tames.

I'm both excited... I think it'll be a boon for bringing this fantastic story into the public eye in the west.
