You start getting into songs where you need the rebound of a physical drum head (or it would at least be nice), this thing just ain't gonna fly

How do you hit the bass drum? Do you have to stamp your feet on the floor like an angry child?

Who would rather have this than a physical drum set? I'm sorry, but this is just plain stupid.

I guess if it worked well, and you didn't need the tactility/rebound of a 'real' set, then it would be great for apartment dwellers like myself. Still, I'd rather put up with limited playing hours than give up actually being able to feel what I'm doing.

As much as you'd like it they can't improve it much more than this. It's obviously the periferal's fault, not yours or the game. If they wanted to be more realistic, they should've gone ION Drums or Guitar Hero IV way, not this way.

It sucks that this is the best they could've come up with... Props for their guitar peripheral though, it OWNS any other and if it works with guitar hero and rock band it's going to be mind blowing.

and BTW, many Drum Techinques are based on the bounce of the sticks, so if you're not hitting anything they're not bouncing, and therefore will be much more difficult playing more technical music.

This thing is an abomination. Why couldn't they just make a MIDI to signal converter and stick with the "Pro" theme by supporting the 5 (or more) pad layout?

Instead they make this useless peripheral and mar the on-screen interface by making the kick drum a note a la Rock Revolution.

I hate to see how they're going to dumb down expert charts that would normally include flams and ghost notes.

Abysmal. I hope their guitar gimmick is cool because the drumming doesn't cut it.

@Ashkental Um... no, that plastic piece of crap does not "OWN" anything at all. One pickup and a stupid mute? How bout the Squire strat with two pick ups and that's made out of real wood? That's what Rock Band has. You won't be touting the guitar from power gig when you put something other than super light gauge strings on it and it snaps in half in your face.

Also, I'd be surprised if you aren't constantly triggering other pads/buttons on the ugly little thing. Human beings are notoriously bad at spacial awareness while playing video games, just ask anyone smacked in the face by a Wii-mote.

I'm not sure why people are always aching for realism when it comes to rhythm games.

It'd be like making special boots to play Mario, because his jumping AINT LIKE THE REAL THING, ITS ALL SIMPLE AND CARTOONY, REAL JUMPING TAKES YEARS OF PRACTICE AT THE TRACK, KID

In terms of the drums, it's actually harder sometimes the way, say, Rock Band does it. They map the open hi-hat to a different pad entirely - what would normally be a simple tap-tap-tap on the hi-hat with your foot going up and down becomes a wildly erratic sticking pattern in some songs that you're expected to do entirely with one hand. It gets even stranger when they start mapping the hi-hat to the snare for faster patterns.

Another example is a song like "Ramblin' Man" where they chart both the left foot hi-hat open-close to the right hand, making the pattern for the right hand 2x faster than the actual drummer plays it, which is pretty fast! It's actually pretty ridiculous and tiring if not impossible for amateurs.

And then there's just the general WTF that you get when you hear a mix of cymbals and drums and they're all being mapped to the same four pads. It works fine for simple arrangements but it starts to look like gibberish in any given harder-tiered song.

In contrast, Guitar Hero with an additional pad is able to separate the cymbals from the drums so there is some natural flow and an ability to know what to play without necessarily knowing *exactly* what to play, which makes the game more enjoyable.

Note: but Guitar Hero still suffers from the "Ramblin' Man" issue. It could be alleviated by the addition of yet another pedal, which seems more complicated, but in practice, is more simple.

Point is, compressing things doesn't always make them simpler, sometimes the "realistic" approach is the best because it was the simplest to begin with.

Hmm... pretty terrible idea overall. I can't really think of ANY reason someone would think this is a good idea apart from the noise factor. As Caleb said, you need that physical rebound to keep a beat. Half the satisfaction is actually hitting the drum pad just like a drum in real life and having that physical interaction interpreted in game. Isn't that the point of this game in the first place?

Empires rise, and empires fall. I guess with the rise of the six-string we shall see the fall of the 5 piece.

Holy beans. Most amazingly inept video ever? At least a contender. I certainly hope they were going for a "so bad it's good" vibe (they hit one outta two), 'cause if this is any indication of the polish on the game's presentation... Yikes. The screenshots I've seen haven't looked good. Too bad, because the guitar itself (if it works) is a neat idea. But these "drums?" No thanks.

Bonus? Surely you meant to say "Bonus: GH and RB drumsets are compatible with Power Gig."

Right?

A lot of fast drum playing revolves around the concept of a stick bouncing off the drum.
Thats how drummers do all their rudiments.
So, this is the least realistic drum kit becuase it isn't a drum kit.

why go out of the way to make the most realistic guitar possible.. yet make the drums look like a crappy 80's children's electronic drumset?
