Red Dead Redemption surpasses 5 million units shipped
75
More than 5 million copies of Red Dead Redemption have been shrink-wrapped and shipped to retailers across North America and Europe since the game's May 18 release -- and, presumably, folks are buying 'em. Publisher Take-Two announced the mailing milestone today, amidst its quarterly earnings, celebrating the commercial and critical success of Rockstar's little Western that could.
Just five months ago Red Dead Redemption appeared doomed. At that time, an anonymous Rockstar source told us, "It will take 4 million sales at full price to recoup the development costs of Red Dead. The good news is they are not expecting to make money with Red Dead Redemption." The accuracy of that estimate notwithstanding, today's shipment announcement suggests that Take-Two and Rockstar now expect to enjoy strong, continued sales of Red Dead.
Of course, let's not get too celebratory over a measly 5 million shipped. As if to put the upstart Western in its place, Take-Two also revealed today Grand Theft Auto IV's lifetime global numbers: 17 million sold.

Blah, I think I might buckle this evening, I wonder if Gamestop still has the double trade-in thing going. At the start of episode 5 of Alan Wake, still have Uncharted 2 which I haven't touch, but this is calling my name.
Few of my friends were doing multiplayer last night, said it was real fun.

50% extra trade in bonus at GS right now. Your friends are correct. Both the single player and multiplayer are superb!

I love this game. There's nothing cooler than riding a horse in the open west and shooting coyotes. Well, except the rest of the stuff you can do in the game.

It's easily my favorite game of the year so far.
Rockstar definitely deserves this success.

uh no, Fallout New Vegas is just a glorified Fallout 3 mod. seriously, i was so friggen pumped for New Vegas at one point but those screenshots... they even reuse player/npc outfits!
the people's faces are all the same generic faces from F3! all the girls look like Moira!
Taking Bethesda's SDK (granted its very well made and easy-ish to use) and making a new Fallout game with it using the SAME resources from Fallout 3 is just lazy.
i'm bummed to say i'll be passing on this one.

Only 5 million units? This game is twice as good as GTA.

Great game. However, the game has far too many glitches for a 95+ score. I can definitely see a 90 score, which is what I would give it. But even though they're funny, we shouldn't overlook flaws like an abundance of glitches. I think many 'critics' are far too easy on Rockstar. I've even been easy on them int he past since they've always been one of my favorite developers. Certainly a worthy contender for GOTY already, but the flaws should be taken into account just like they are in lesser hyped titles, that's all.
Not a bash on the game, just a fair assessment and an urge for more accountability when it comes to game reviewers.

Honestly I haven't experienced much in glitches. The ones I have were hilarious one timers. There is some texture clipping but it's not insanely noticeable.

I've heard plenty of people say that those glitches are what makes the game even more entertaining.

Even if they make the game more entertaining, a game should be as glitch-free as possible.
They should not be overlooked because they're 'teh funny'.
