Rumor: Tony Hawk: Shred will include snowboarding

Tony Hawk: Shred is an actual thing that's coming, this much Activision itself confirmed. And we have it on good authority from our Joystiq Superspy™ that the latest game to bear the Tony Hawk name will not only let gamers shred pavement, but also some fresh powder: the game will incorporate snowboarding -- a first for the traditionally skateboarding-only series.

It's been a tough time for the Tony Hawk series lately. Tony Hawk: Ride, which introduced a plastic peripheral, didn't do so well. And with competition from EA's Skate series, as well as newcomer Shaun White Skateboarding emerging on the scene, it's not going to be easy for Shred to stand out from the competition.

We're expecting to hear more on Shred at E3 next week. We'll let you know what we find out.

I don't want him to retire. In fact, I WANT them to keep churning out crappy Tony Hawk games. You know why? So the team that works on SKATE doesn't get too lazy and uses the competition to better their games.

I agree with mystile. Also bringing in snowboarding is bad for Tony Hawk they're already terrible at skating and now they're adding this? why don't they perfect skateboarding before adding another different game. This is another reason I fear the new spiderman game even though it's a different developer they're not focusing on a single aspect. They could have gone the Batman AA route and just focus on combat instead of big open world yet dull world.

No, this is stupid.

The only thing I want from snowboarding games is a resurrection of the SSX series, or something similar.

Shaun White actually skateboards professionally and has entered many skateboarding competitions, while Tony Hawk does not snowboard to my knowledge, or at least he does not do it competitively. I'm sure he probably does it recreationally though. When you do one, you usually do all 3.

Who cares?? Really? I don't know a single soul that has bought a Tony Hawk game since Skate came out.

Project 8 was the last decent TH game. PG was terrible, and Ride was an insult to anyone who considered themselves a fan of the TH series. I wont judge quickly on Shred, but if they make that stupid ass peripheral mandatory again, it'll sink just as fast as Ride did. You can't make 9 games in a row compatable with controllers then decide to change the the scheme that made your game popular in the first place.

Project 8 was also terrible... infact everything past Underground 1 was terrible - Underground was the LAST semi-okay, but not really okay one.

Two beloved sports.

Unlike a skateboard, rollerblades are attached to your feet and can't come of in the middle of the activity. Unlike a snowboard, it's not all one peice, so the tricks aren't as exciting to watch as they to perform.

To a viewer, skateboarding is simply more entertaining as it seems more difficult and demending to perform tricks.

Though i do agree. It's odd that there has really never been a rollerblading game.

Wow. The second incarnation of a bad idea just got worse.

EA should smack themselves and get a move on a new SSX title already. Shaun White Snowboarding didn't really usurp the current-gen snowboarding throne, nobody remembers Stoked, and this isn't threatening to overtake the crown either.

It's ripe for SSX.

There hasn't been a good TH game since THPS3 in 2001. That's 9 years of suck, and they keep getting worse.

But I gotta agree with bemaggg, a new JSR game would be nice. It'd be worth buying alone if they brought back Hideki Naganuma. I haven't heard of another artist who can take a few phrases and make whole songs out of it. One thing I gotta ask Sega though is "WTF are you thinking"?

EA, get working on the new SSX already. Preferably a sequel to On Tour.
