This is ridiculous! Developers need to stop giving out exclusive content to certain retailers. It's bad enough when one store has exclusive content, but four stores? Come on!

If it's anything like FO3, these items are available throughout the game.

Exclusive preorder content doesn't bother me... because if I don't want to pre-order... I won't... and if I do pre-order, then I will, and I will get a stupid bonus too.

A "stupid bonus" is fine. Who cares if people get extra consumable items if they pre-order. But exclusive weapons, characters, locations, etc that one can't get in the regular game unless it's released later through DLC? That's bullshit.

Ugh. Im so tired of this trend. Its always cool denying people features on the disk based on where they decide to get the game. Most likely the place with the best price. So if I want to look for a good sale, im screwed out of content thats already on my game (Most of the time)

Normally I wouldn't mind these things, but this just makes me pissed off.
I loved Fallout 3, so I want to eventually get every item, and there are so many items I can't get now.

Really annoying.

I agree, by dividing up exclusive content amongst 4 retailers, there's no way for one person to get them all. Super lame.

As part of Steam's promotion, they're also running a sale on Fallout 3: GOTY Edition for $25. Check it out if you haven't already!

(Morrowind and Oblivion are also on sale, both under $10)

Great deal.

Too bad I finally broke down and bought Fallout 3: GOTY (played the game sans DLC on 360) on Steam for $50 the day before the deal started. Bah!

That's what I don't get. Surely retailer specific bonuses emerged when either a retailer paid a publisher for the privilege or the publisher and retailer struck a deal for increased store space/advertising/pushing of the game to customers. If nearly every store has their own specific piece of DLC as a matter of course it really helps nobody and just annoys off the end consumer.

But f*** me if I know how retail works, the entire industry is insane.

I'm gonna go with the Mom & Pop Shop pack when you pre-order through most mom & pop comic/video game shops, contains:

- 2 Days - Two extra days to play the game before the street dates.

Go ahead and support the person illegally obtaining things before release! It's the new cool thing. Next we'll be upvoting theft.

Apparently it's wrong to actually like something and be against illegal obtainment. Must be the influx of idiotic users who think piracy is cool too.

Does anyone really care if someone gets a copy a few days early? Really? In absolutely no way do I find anything wrong with someone who manages to get a copy a cuppla days early. You think that person is doing something morally wrong? Really?

It's against the law, so yeah it's something wrong. This isn't a jealousy stance. Stores get closed down for stuff like this, and people who brag about it deserve to have it told that they are doing something illegal. It's a principal. But whatever, support him all you want.

That's why your Mom & Pop shop wont be in business much longer. So enjoy your extra 2 days of gaming I'll enjoy my exclusive content... Even though this content is not exactly exciting.

Be careful though... I heard buying games early these days is a gateway buy. You start out buying a game or two a couple days early... Next thing you know you are killing Devs to get Alpha builds and never before seen trailers.

I kind of feel bad for you if you automatically assume every law and rule is moral and just.

In this world legal doesn't alway equate to right, and illegal doesn't always equate to something wrong. Maybe your principles involve following the letter of the law to the dot no matter the moral implications.

Me? I tend to just do what I think is right, and avoid what I think is wrong. I don't think supporting a mom and pop shop, paying for my video game content, and getting it a day or two early is wrong, and so I don't avoid it.

Also, I'm sad to hear that some stores you know have gotten shut down for it. I frequent a couple of mom and pop stores and luckily they've been doing it for years without a problem. I suspect it's because the consumers here are loyal and never snitch about it. I may mention what I do, but you'll never hear a detail slip from me beyond "mom & pop shop."

Also thank you, I do enjoy taking my Xbox online. Banned? Nah, it's yet to happen. If you hop online a week or two early then maybe you're at risk, but a day or two and you're pretty safe.

If I haven't been banned for playing big games like Red Dead and MW2 early, then I'm going to safely assume the smaller titles aren't going to create such a reaction either.

@Spike As far as I know, it's not illegal for a consumer to buy a game before the street date, even weeks early. That responsibility lies with the retailer.

Microsoft has even said they don't care if you play a legit copy a couple of days early, either--listen to the XBL moderation panel from PAX East for more info.

So, there's nothing "illegal" about buying a game a few days early, and the platform holder is okay with it. In my mind's eye, there's no way to say it's morally wrong, either.;I'm still paying full retail price for the game, so I'm confident the publisher couldn't possibly care less that I got an early copy.

So, what are you bitching about, again?

There is nothing illegal about buying before street date. That is a contract between retailer and publisher. You are not a part of that contract. Also that is civil law, not criminal in most circumstances. Thus not illegal.

Lol at the chain-down voting. For the record, Steam will get my money because its the better distribution platform (for me). I just hope they don't pull the same crap they have done with some other games and not let you decrypt it until 5 in the PM that day.

It's embarrassing to see someone defend street dates on a basis of the law. A lot of things you do is probably illegal. Jaywalking is still illegal, but everyone and their mothers do it.

You know why mom 'n pop stores sell earlier than everyone else? Because that's the only way they can survive with the heavy competition of large chain stores such as GameStop. Maybe they're risking heavy fines that can put them out of business, but doing nothing will lead to the same result anyway.

Ohnoes, I'm not a movie critic but I watched a movie that hasn't been released yet because I'm buddies with the projectionist and get hooked up! Illegal, zomg! Ohnoes, my friend's album hasn't been released yet but he gave me a copy, illegal, zomg!
