Sony's pre-E3 reveals continue with confirmation of MotorStorm: Apocalypse (a.k.a. "MotorStorm 3"). Confirming previously leaked details, Apocalypse takes the franchise to a new urban setting, with a focus on destruction -- not unlike the recently released Split/Second. Players will be (foolishly!) racing through a city in the middle of an earthquake, driving through collapsing buildings.
"This isn't post-apocalyptic. It's apocalyptic. You are there when it happens. It's survival racing," the PlayStation.Blog adds. In addition to the new setting, developer Evolution Studios is promising a greater emphasis on online and split-screen multiplayer, offering split-screen team racing in online, 16-player matches.
MotorStorm 3 will be playable at E3 next week. Expect our full hands-on report then.

so did they just announce it because pictures leaked? or were they planning on announcing it a week before E3 all along?

hmm an embargo? so does that mean that people knew about it (I.E Joystiq) but couldn't talk about it?

lol well yeah but what was the point of letting people know about it? i know the reason behind embargos on games when they're about to come out.. but what's the point of letting people know before the announcement? they are just asking for a leak.

Pacific Rift is the best arcade racer of this generation, imo. Even better than Burnout Paradise (and that's a good game too).

If Burnout hadn't gone all open world, I think it could have been a tough competitor against Motorstorm. But Pacific Rift is in my opinion the best arcade racer of the generation.

This game sounds crazy. I can't wait to see footage.
What else can Sony announce?
Actually, a lot!
Sony/ Sony's 1st Party is the best. No offense to any1 else but to me, there's no 1st party like Sony's 1st party.

I would say that Nintendo has more impressive first party titles, but Sony is continually building quite the repertoire.
If E3 is just about the Move, then this will be an okay-good year for Sony. If the reveals continue and some big things happen, then maybe I'll believe that it is finally the year of the PS3.
Actually, even then, I couldn't be so sure. Each console is having a great year so far and a lot of potential to be amazing in the second half as well.

If you mean best 1st party games as re- using the same franchises for the last 30 years, repeat the same genres and games, and make games with the same characters playing soccer and baseball, etc, then yes, Nintendo is the best.
Nintendo is less and less original with each generation. The DS, thanks to low development costs, is the platform where they take more risks, and even then it is third parties that are making the riskier games.
Sony is the one taking risks. Nintendo just goes with the motions.

Everything I say is wrong. Okay. Makes a lot of sense. So you are saying that Nintendo's first party games aren't amazing? You are saying that Sony's first party games are not amazing as well?
You are saying that, if E3 is entirely devoted to the move, the PS3 will not have a good year? You are saying that if a lot more games are announced at E3, the PS3 will not be having a fantastic year and definitely not the best of all the three companies?
You are saying that the Wii, the 360, AND the PS3 have done abysmally this year so far? And that all of them have no potential for the holidays?
Wow man. I feel sorry for you. You must hate almost about everything about video games, because I pretty much praised the entire console side of the industry right there.

i love that sony is blowing all of it's big games before e3. then they are going to make us wait til the end to show the already leaked stuff. all they are going to hear is crickets then yawns when they show the move.

Well, they've announced loads of games, but I'm still interested in seeing actual *gameplay footage* of Motorstorm, Killzone, Resistance and inFamous, plus a more in-depth look at The Last Guardian, LBP, and SOCOM.
Sony's E3 will probably be light on game announcements and heavy on Move BS, but there'll hopefully be a healthy dosage of gameplay footage and details released also.

I sure hope they'll have SOME surprise announcements. They can show gameplay footage of all these pre-E3 announced games, and still make one hell of a show. But it doesn't take that many surprise announcements to make an impact, if they have 1-2 great announcements, and the Move part of the show doesn't suck, they could have one incredible keynote this year. Really looking forward to it!

I still need to pick up the second one. I was really quite hyped for it, but stopped following news about it because the anti-hype crowd annoyed me ("ZOMG! if you pause the game and zoom in on the rock over there you'll notice it has a low-res texture!!!1!!").
Still plan to buy it, one of these days...

It's a racing game; you're not supposed to pause and zoom in on rocks. Haha, get it. The game is gold.

Motorstorm! I'd see those games and was the only one in my circle of peers that thought they looked fun. When I finally got around to getting a PS3, I had forgotten about them. Should probably pick up one this month, as nothing new is out.

Obligatory CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS comment!
Posted: Jun 10th 2010 2:32PM Digital Viking said
If it's one thing that stands out to me (in presentation value) it's the sound. It's gritty, great music and with a good 5.1 rig, there are few games that has as good sound as Motorstorm. It's brutal.
But custom soundtrack would be nice, but not mandatory.

I really hope they finally make the vehicles different in each specific class. I hate the fact that when you unlock a new vehicle in any of the given groups it does nothing more than change the skin. I love MotorStorm but it's time for some diversity within the vehicle groups.

Actually, Badlands had you driving through an apocalyptic city back in 1989 (probably before robotoid was born/cloned).

But then again, some players believe Halo Reach recently invented the jetpack, so I'm not surprised.

Robotoid, please... do you honestly think that they made THAT much of Motorstorm's sequel AFTER Split/Second was announced and/or did well financially? Come on.
Split/Second is a fantastic game and I recommend it, but you're brain damaged if you think this game copied and pasted from it. Do you know how long just the art design stage alone in a game takes to go through?

Not many many years Orion, get your facts straight. Pokemon 96, Digimon 97.
The creation of Digimon was a decision taken after realizing the financial success of Pokemon.
Now if you think I'm saying the Motorstorm sequel CONCEPT creation was done after Split/Second did well financially, that's just stupid and illogical, it's not even a month, funny how you can even consider that an option. I'm saying probably after the announcements, when they saw the potential of the whole idea, it's been more than a year since then anyway, they can have a little tease thing done already and there's still plenty of time to keep developing Motorstorm til it's release date.
"do you honestly think that they made THAT much of Motorstorm's sequel"
THAT much? what "THAT much"??? it's just been announced! you have absolutely no idea how far into development they really are. And I bet you it's not gonna be the final game what's gonna be playable at E3, it can pretty much be just a one track demo.
Anyway, too much fanboyism now. So I leave with that note.
