Sigh, yet another fps. Where is the originality?

I assume the same could be said of all genres then?
The point is, every single game dosent have to be super innovative.
Hey if its got good production values, a good story and gameplay sign me up.

I don't mind that this is another FPS, it's just that it seems that 90% of the games in the FPS genre fail to innovate in any substantial way. I'm going to to try to withhold judgement on this game until I see some gameplay videos, but I doubt I will see anything I haven't already seen a dozen times before.

@The Scout

Yeah, I don't care that it's an FPS. I actually really like the concept of the game, which I think matters the most in my opinion. Of course, it's a very far-fetched story, but if it's interesting and keeps a playing wanting more (as it seemingly does), I think it'll be fine.

@The Scout Even though its another FPS theirs no need to stone it to death before you gotten more information about the game.

@The Scout I'm not really in to FPS, in fact the only one I've ever purchased was BLACK for the PS2, but this actually looks quite interesting.

@The Scout and the others,

I sometimes feel like maybe people who blindly hate on FPS games just haven't played any good ones.

For example the person above whose only FPS experience was Black? Jesus. That is a terrible, terrible game. So if that's your only game in the genre, no wonder you think they're all bad.

Honestly guys? Despite all the hesitance that I'm sure builds from the hype you see about games in this genre, there are some really unique and great FPS games. Metro 2033? Unlike most anything I've ever played. Far Cry 2 fits in line with that as well.

And as much as I'm sure you'd like to hate them - believe it or not, if you look at the titles objectively and without all the rabid fanboyism behind it, the big ones have tons of merit as well. Halo is great. Modern Warfare and other Call of Duty games? Big fun, and with some pretty memorable and valuable experiences. Even in the storytelling, believe it or not.

So if you're knocking all FPS games because you really didn't like Darkest of Days.. Well.. Yeah. Try better ones!

Just my thoughts.

@The Scout

If you don't like FPS games, why the hell did you click on a FPS game article and comment on it?

I don't like sports games. But do you see me commenting in every sports game article on how there are too many sports games and they're all the same?

No. Because I'm not a moron, which puts me in the minority of gaming forum denizens, apparently.

@The Scout I have played some innovative crap. I'll play a tied and true genre with little or no change over and over again if the mechanic still holds true and is fun. What is with people being so stuck on innovation? There is such a thing as being too original.

Another game trying to get a piece of the huge FPS market. Hopefully other genres get some more focus in the market soon.

"And what about that "heart?" I'm excited by Homefront's potential. What can set it apart from competitors is its characters: a small squad of civilian resistance fighters in a battle not to take back the country, but to simply survive."

Whoa, this catches my attention.

Oh, wait, whoa, so does this

" The demo featured a botched fire bombing, one with deadly consequences for both the invading North Korean forces and the civilian resistance squad. Simply put, it was horrifying."

Wow, this could be really interesting. Definitely on my radar.

Off-topic bug report: I got an e-mail when I replied to my own post, but not when the next two people did.

OH WAIT I think I just figured it out. I don't think this was mentioned in the "About the New Joustiq" post: I think you ONLY get an e-mail for replies if they leave in the part that says "@Acosta02"

OH WAIT no, looks like my original reply didn't have that in it... So it still is a bug? I guess we'll see if I get an e-mail for this one...

I definitely agree. Also, I don't think we have enough in the way of super immersive first person shooters a la Metro 2033 and Bioshock.

It's not the fact that's an FPS. It's the fact that it's trying so hard to be another CoD competitor. Every publisher wants their cut of the CoD cake it seems. EA with their Medal of Honor: Modern Warfare Edition and THQ with this. When will the bankroll captains realize that you won't get anywhere by stupidly copying other's ideas? MW became the smash hit BECAUSE it deviated from the old WWII setting in the first place.

First it was RTS's in the mid- to late '90s when C&C and Warcraft went through the roof, then we had a gazillion WWII-Shooters and now this? Bah, I'm sick of it. For every worthwhile game you'll get a truckload of cheap knock-offs.

Yeah, I got the same feeling. Reading the preview made me laugh a bit. I mean, how could that starving remnant of the Cold War possibly take over the United States? And then I watched the trailer, which made it seem almost plausible. The developers could really be on to something if they maintain that same disturbing atmosphere within the game.

It's also great to see a FPS game that doesn't have the stereotypical Russian/Alien/WW2 setting and is instead creating a new Political Mythology, this could become quite a good franchise if pulled off.

There's a huge potholes in this story. Where's China in all this?!? I honestly think it would make more since that our economy goes that China attacks us with North and South Korea.

I rather have a sequel to Freedom Fighters than this anyday... EA do you hear that?!?

Though unrelated, I find it amusing that both Homefront and Deus Ex 3 are set in 2027. It's like two alternate futures, or something...

It's not plausible at all. The Japanese wouldn't surrender like that, they aren't French.

And China just lets Korea run wild in the Pacific annexing random countries?
