Rockstar has 'no current plans' for Red Dead Redemption on PC

Sorry, keyboard cowpokes, it appears Rockstar Games has "no current plans" to mosey Red Dead Redemption over to PC. A Rockstar rep dropped the info nugget on the company's site when asked whether a PC version of the console exclusive hit was in the works. Red Dead Redemption has turned out to be a surprise hit for Take-Two Interactive, shipping over 5 million units since it rode onto the scene in May.

Suurrrreee. This will hit PC in about 6 months. I hope so anyway cause GTA on the PC is the best way to play it.

Rockstar said the same thing about having "no current plans" for GTA4 on PC as well. I think Red Dead Redemption will eventually make its way onto PCs. A PC version would net them an additional million or two sales on top of their already high 5 million copies.

Their ports are typically pretty jank anyway...so, thanks?

Exactly.
Console ports are usually balls and third person games are better with a controller anyway.
At this point every PC gamer should have a console. Especially when they are cheaper than most good video cards. If you can afford a decent gaming setup with 5.1, large monitor etc. then buying a console should be a next-upgrade no-brainer.
I'd rather play PC games that are made for PC than second-thought console ports and console games made for consoles. That way you don't miss out on games like RDR and STALKER/Witcher/Company of Heroes/insertnameofanydecentPCreleaseyoucan rmemberhere.

Nope nope nope.
Yeah the GTA4 PC port had some bad optimization issues and it took about 6 months to satisfy people. Moreoftenthannot, they didn't take the time to properly otimize the settings. For some reason, everything ran high as possible, but shadows couldn't go above medium without stuttering on my high end pc. This is with a 1 gig of memory on my video card, 8 gigs of ram and an I7 processor. The majority severely underestimated running the engine in a higher resolution desktop.
Every gta since 3, san andreas, vice city, manhunt 1, 2 were just fine all around. max payne was fine, bully turned out fine.
Max payne 3 is hitting PC right up front, but they also said they had no plans for PC versions of episodes from liberty city, but not only did they deliver, they were fantastic. No bugs that time around, period!
Bad ports my ass, they usually take the time to get the visuals above par even what they just did with consoles. Red Dead will make its way, and it will be pretty. it won't be a runaway hit but it will definately have its customers on PC.

By the way, i strongly feel the GTA4 is the definative version to own if you have the cash, love and time to get it as close to maxed out as possible, higher density traffic, replay editor (if you are into that) and the always appreciated independant fm (your own station) and I personally got curious and downloaded some extra fan made things such as a small script editor changing all the cars to their REAL names, serious improvements to weather scripting, and whatever else you can tweak visually or even get into the crazy garbage that is modding.
..can you say gta nerd, totally.

This is good news! Denying they have any current plans to release a PC port is always what Rockstar does a couple months before announcing the PC port. This is just a necessary step towards getting RDR on the PC.
Unfortunately for port prospects the game is selling so well on consoles they'll probably want to hold off till at least a year after the console release.

I'm saddened by this. I had loads of fun on the PC version and loved the extra video features and better graphics.
The game was not flawless by any means, but I experienced non of these apparently huge bugs which so many people seem to mention.
I've bought far worse ports.
I would have bought RDR in a heart-beat for PC.

Red Dead Revolver and that Ping-Ping game never got ported last I checked. But I can live without playing those. Only reason I've been holding back from getting it for console is because I want to play Redemption on the PC. I want my character skinned as Clint Eastwood dammit!

Apparently, according to initial analysts, Rockstar was only looking forward to recouping the costs associated with RDR's extended development cycle.
That might explain why they didn't print up enough copies; there was a week in May when no retail shelf in the UK had a copy left!

I'll wait for the PC port, I don't want to play it on my 360. I have enough games to tide me over anyways.

Of course they are gonna say that, the console game just came out. When sales drop they will announce the PC version. Right now they don't want to undermine making as much profit NOW as they can.

Rockstar is going to get the S*** Kicked out of them by Angry Joe for this.
Oh well. If GTA IV PC was anything to go by, this is a good thing.

Heck yes, I've played GTA4 on all three platforms and the PC is the definitive version, and I do have a nice rig, an i7 920 with a GTX 285. Its especially great with a trainer utility, spawn any car, character, weapon, object, etc. No way I can play the console versions now!

They are probably just saying this in hopes to sell a few more copies of the console version, because they know some are waiting on the PC version. That way when they announce the PC version they can make 2 sales from the same customers.

Meh, too bad for people who are into this type of games I guess. The only open world game I care about is Mafia 2 and I could care less about RDR.

Well I can't blame them for not doing this although I am very disappointed in this news. Piracy is big, and it would be huge for this game.

Meh. Let's not put too many pirates on this cowboy specific game.
360 piracy not as big as on PC.

Fine. Whatever. If/when they do decide to Port it over to PC, if it ships with SecureROM I won't buy it. I have not bought GTA IV because of this.
