I'm more excited than I thought I would be about the Pro guitar. I was planning on not picking up RB3 (or maybe just the disc, but not the instruments), but now I've definitely rethought that and will most likely be picking it up day one. My wallet is crying.

Engadget says $150 for the button-intensive-Fender Mustang. No word on the Strat, but I would imagine similar to a real guitar; since it is one (which would be, what? $250? $300?)

@milkham It would appear that at least one of the guitars has a MIDI output that you connect to the little box with the Xbox buttons on it - presumably so there is a similar box for the PS3 as well so you don't have to replace the entire guitar.
I am also excited that the keyboard controller seems to have a MIDI plug on it. I wonder if I can use my 88-key keyboard with RB3.

A Fender Squire Strat costs $120 in these parts.

And yet there will be those who'll get even more technical with the whole "lrn2ply a real instrument" argument still, and have yet to realize that it's a damn game.

I imagine that "All the time you wasted playing fake gigs could have been spent learning how to get a gig at a real venue " will be the next step

The reason why I play with plastic instruments is so I don't have to learn how to play real ones the hard way. I'm all for having *a* string that I can pick rather then a strum bar, or a touch sensitive pad I can strum on like the Guitar Hero guitars, but strings and an entire neck full of frets and segmented buttons?
Is Pro Mode really going to chart actual chords and notes like that? Hell, I'd rather just learn how to play for real if I'm gonna go through that trouble. I love the keyboard and I think it's awesome, and having a MIDI adapter for drums and keyboards is an awesome addition, but this guitar is kind of overkill in my books.

Those look expensive. Also, I'm not sure I can fit another instrument in my flat. I already have three guitars, a drum set, and a mic stand. Not to mention other gaming peripherals like taiki drums, DDR pads, extra controllers and arcade sticks... Rock Band 3 looks really cool and might be super fun with those more realistic instruments, but I think I'd have to sell off all my old accessories before I could consider getting RB3.

it seems more like a true simulator; i think it might be possible to learn some guitar or whatever instrument your playing through this. Pretty cool

If the guitar is using a midi input (and from the picture it looks like the keyboard is as well), I wonder if one could hook up their midi controller to this puppy and jam with 88 keys. Or for that matter, hook up that squier to a computer to use with a recording program. This could get exciting...

what I don't understand is if they are going to being making game controllers why use the squire name brand if it is not a real guitar anyways why stick Fenders hoopty guitar branding on it instead of stickering it with thier better name line stratocaster.

The only one that get me excited is the Drums.
The guitar playing will become too much complicated to be fun.
