Devil's Third is Itagaki's bloody, bullet-filled new game
42
Missed Tomonobu Itagaki? After a controversial departure from Tecmo, the producer of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden found himself with some free time ... and a job offer from THQ. Devil's Third is the debut game from his new studio, Valhalla Games -- and it features all the violence and gore that you'd want from an Itagaki game. Unlike many of his previous titles, this looks to be a multiplatfom release, gracing both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

In a good way though.

I thought the same thing. WET with some polish and fine tuning, sounds awesome to me.

I would have thought it'd be 360 exclusive. Oh well, it looks pretty cool.

It's not Itagaki without dubious amounts of blood.

A Gatling gun reducing a man to meatball sized chunks of blood and guts, looks like a blast.

I'm not feelin' it. So what, it's just a great big death match game using the old gore shock value angle to try and trick people into thinking blood and guts = cool? C'mon people we've evolved beyond apes... most of us. dont let the king of boobies and "high kicks" trick you into thinking a few beheadings and blood splatter is going to make you hand over 60 damn dollars in a day and age when we have to be smart about what games we support.

@PN04 I was thinking the same thing, actually. It doesn't matter who develops the game, and plastering Itagaki's name all over it doesn't help sell it to me. It just looks like a bunch of gore, and if it's not done correctly, it can feel stale. Bayonetta did over-the-top action extremely well, and the blood and gore just added to the aesthetic.

@PN04 I also didn't think it looked that great, especially the graphics, but don't knock Ninja Gaiden. That was easily the best ninja/samurai/any type of sword fighting franchise ever. And the boobs were just a bonus :P

I'm a little disappointed Itagaki's switched from swords to guns, and the visuals (both graphics and art direction) doesn't look anywhere near as good as Team Ninja's games, but if it's even close the polish, balance and pacing of the Ninja Gaiden games, I'll get it in a heartbeat. I'm glad he's decided to finally go multiplatform too. Hope they have this demoed at E3 so I can hear more about the play mechanics.

This looks more impressive than any of the action games released in the last year. Granted, it's only a trailer so I shouldn't go too far.
If THQ managed to put someone decent on the plot and characters then this could be a great game. No matter how much I love the gameplay mechanics in the Ninja Gaiden games, everything else takes me away. Its the same reason I avoided purchasing Bayonetta and Dante's Inferno. Plot and character just not there for me.
