The latest trailer for Sony Online Entertainment's espionagetastic MMO, The Agency, shows us a side of the world of counterintelligence that we rarely get to see: Action-packed deathmatches. How else did you expect the game's player vs. player element to pan out? Though eight-hour-long rounds of competitive target surveillance might be more thematically appropriate, we don't think they'd be very entertaining after the first few minutes.

While I didn't state my reasons for my comment, I'll take the time to clarify. The Idea behind "The Agency" Is the whole spy concept, right? Well that's not what I saw in the PvP trailer. I saw a generic shooter where ganging up is one of the many ways to take out a foe. When a developer falls back on "cool guns" and "crazy devices" to try and justify a spy multi-player mode, it's been done before.
So... "I'll stick to MAG thank you."
I should have stated that when it came to games where ganging up on other players, and not much thought needs to be put into how you do it. Basically if I wanted mindless multi-player, it's been done, and it's called MAG.

This reminds me of the Quake II mod Action Quake. And in all honesty that is not a bad thing by any means.

I liked how this game was looking before, looked like it might have some personality, but with the generic FPS trailer, I can't expect much from it going forward. It's competing in a very very crowded space and doesn't seem to have anything to make it stand out.
This trailer has snuffed out my interest in this game.

@onan Ditto. At this point though, I'm doubting it'll ever actually be released.

I HOPE its more like MAG than APB. Put 50Hrs into APB(Beta) and 5 into MAG(Beta), and MAG had infinitely better shooting and matchmaking mechanics than APB. Hopefully the guns don't suck and it doesn't become the SAME missions OVER and OVER again.

@AntiCrawl -- Let me refer you back to Griffins review of the game:
http://www.joystiq.com/2010/01/28/review-mag/
Hmm seems like MAG does a lot of things very well... Also considering that it still has a strong community playing it that should be enough to counter your arguments about MAG..
You may not like it, but _many_ of us do.. Name me 1 other game on consoles that comes close to the team based game play of MAG..
Mag does many things very very well, the team play is fluid, it encourages people to communicate and to work as a team, its shooting and aiming is pretty spot on.. Its not frustrating to play, with a good team behind you the game becomes incredibly fluid.. Also what is best about the game is the community of players, I dont think I have been in 1 game of mag with people shouting homophobic and racial slurs..

Im sorry, i had really high hopes for this game but it looks like a generic shooter MMO. Just cause it has "epic loot" and endless leveling up progression doesn't mean you can make sketchy shooter mechanics.

Get 256 players in a single area in an MMO on a machine with the same specs as the PS3...then we'll talk about why.
Also keep in mind that MMO worlds are spread over many, many servers. MMOs also don't have to keep track of thousands of bullets at one time.

Wow....why all the MAG hate?? I would've liked to respond to each of u individually...but oh well. MAG is a great game...I and many other ls certainly think so...there have been many updates to the game since launch so th game has gotten much bettrer...u might wanna give it a spin again...and with the coming Interdiction DLC they are cranking it up a notch...,Zipper has been saying for a while that they see MAG as platform...a MMO in is own right...so the Agency and MAG have something in common....it's funny because these were the two games that I had ears about at E3 sometime back that I was must anticipating..MAG is here and is awesome but I had become unsure if the Agency's final status until recently. The theory of the Agency is an awesome one il but I am tryin to stay even-keeled with my expectations. Could be very interesting.

They created a facebook game for people to play while you wait, it's actually a bit more enjoyable than most other games. There are code breaking, bomb defusing, discovery , escape(Canabalt clone) and sudoku games, not to mention rock/paper/scissors style combat. So it shows they've been putting some work into keeping the game visible until release. Also it is third person but they have different view points. (you can't snipe in third person after all.)

Looks almost completely different from the gameplay vids I've seen so far. I do not understand what is taking them so long to make this game. MAG was announced and released in the timespan that it is taking The Agency to be finished, and I think Splinter Cell Conviction was also.

I can't believe this is an MMO from this video. The PvP looks more like a traditional shooter, but with the added benefit of using MMO-style abilities.
That could be incredibly cool, as earning my bonuses through quests, missions, and my character's innate abilities is more fun to me than the "shoot every thing in sight, earn more ways to shoot, continue shooting" conventions.

I looked at the hidef version of the video.. The graphics haven't blown me away and thats me being kind.. Looking at the game play this could be fun, but it looks like just pure out run and gun mayhem...
Will it have move support like Socom 4 ? That would probably make it interesting..
