Last night, Blizzard opened up the NDA floodgates of a recent press event, where attendees (including our sister site WoW.com) learned of a few more changes the upcoming Cataclysm expansion will visit upon World of Warcraft. The game's big dungeons and raids? Those are changing. The classic zones which were ruined by the titular Cataclysm? Those are getting changed. Even some of the big changes which were announced last year are changing. It's a lot to take in.
We suggest checking out WoW.com's write-up on the new content, such as the Guild Leveling system and the new secondary Archaeology profession. We'd also suggest listening to some appropriate tunes while you do so, but that part's entirely up to you.

@Ignatius Sounds to me like they're doing it for gameplay reasons. All the development work seems to be there, as they're keeping archeology for lore/cosmetic bonuses. I just don't think it would have been ideal to base skills that would be required by raiders into a mandatory grind.
Basically they're taking those key abilities and rolling them into glyphs.

@Brockobama123 FFXI has had chances to proc high quality versions of items since it came out. This isn't something new to MMOs and I really don't understand why you would have issue with it. I also think you are oversimplifying the entire issue. There could be numerous reasons they took out the systems. I wouldn't doubt that you would also complain if things came out and they weren't balanced. Some people are impossible to please.

Yep, and I believe you. Apparently the billions of dollars Kotick's been getting from MW2, and the guaranteed millions Black Ops will unfortunately get, just wasn't enough for good ol' Mr. Kotick!

@Brockobama123 Hey, this may sound...incredibly shocking to you, but Blizzard has been known to push things back quite a bit. Even with Kotick, Starcraft II was pushed up for their release, if I recall. Not to mention the hype with Diablo III.
And I think with the revenue of WoW subscriptions alone probably making Blizzard's side profitable, Kotick would probably not mess around with such a money-maker. Blizzard has always been Blizzard. This is just one of the few cases of them actually cutting out something instead of adding something and pushing along the date.
And the idea of better items being procced from crafted items came around when Wrath first came out, what with the JC gems that could be "perfectly" cut to give 1-2 points more of what they had. This will most likely not have any effect on the end-game crafting and may just be for leveling professions and possibly getting a benefit out of it again.
So yeah, despite your claims, I really don't think that's the case. Blizzard is just being Blizzard.

That is quite the shakeup. I don't think I've ever seen that big of changes to announced content in the history of the game.
Was really interested in the path of the titans and it's tie with archeology, but I guess a lore-only secondary profession is an exciting prospect as well.

I'm a pretty big WoW nerd myself, and I honestly have no idea what Path of the Titans even was.
Safe to say, in a couple weeks, no one will even remember this anyhow. The internet has such a short term memory.
Remember what the spectral pony mount was a big deal? Yeah, me neither.

This is me not caring because I've definitely moved on from the game. Real life called and it's far more important to me than my draenei shaman.
