Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam was just announced at EA's press conference. The first expansion pack to the hit FPS series will be released this winter. No further details were airdropped, but we'll be sure to fight our way to getting more details soon.
Update: EA has revealed a few more details about Vietnam, which will be a multiplayer-only expansion, featuring four new maps. Additionally, the add-on will include "enhanced" persistence, as well as new weapons, vehicles, unlocks, awards and Achievements/Trophies. Pricing will be announced at a later date. Peep the trailer after the break.
@Gandalf the Grey By the way as someone who is going to buy Black Ops and who is an avid player of BC2 I'm exciting to see how they both portray Vietnam.
This is more of a "strategic business move" more so than it is a "gift for gamers". It's smart to give current owners a reason to stay but we'll have to wait and see how much of an effect it will have.
Are you JOKING?! Ditch the frostbite engine?! That's mad. I don't care *that* much about graphics, but damn, destructible environments has made me think less of an FPS that doesn't have fully destructible... everything. Whenever I play MAG after playing BF1943 or BC (don't have BC2 yet) it just feels like a sup par experience, and the lack of destructible environments thanks to the frostbite engine is the main part of that.
I'll get this if you can fly the fixed wing aircraft.
If all you can fly are helicopters, screw it.
The helicopters in BFBC2 are pathetic, the highest you can fly is like 300 feet. What a joke. Battlefield used to be all about who had the most skill at flying and stuff like that, and now BFBC2 is mostly COD with shitty controls and bigger maps.
Bring back the fixed wing aircraft that actually took some skill to use, and I'll get this one.
@(Unverified) That reminds me of WarHawk on PS3. Anyone can get in the planes but it took a lot of skill (not as much as Battlefield but there's still some there). If you haven't played it, check it out, you might like it.
NEW maps? ones that we have to PAY for? cuz you know, the VIP code is only good for maps that are old with new modes put into them. screw you EA and screw you DICE.
Well they remade 1942 into 1943 and a ton of people started egging DICE on to make a Vietnam remake and now it's just about a year later with this announcement. It is a little bit ironic with the timing but I don't care for CoD and am interested in a Vietnam game so I'm happy.
Oh ya, I know that this is great news for those who play BC2, it's just that since Black Ops was announced and shown, I don't really think that the forst thing that comes to mind when you think "Cold War Era FPS" are any of the Battlfield games, past or present.
And golf is not for pansys. It is an intense, manly sport of precision and technique.
Nice. Instead of supporting Bad Company 2 multiplayer with new maps, you decide to make an expansion pack instead. Lemme guess, you are going to take away half the modes for the maps and give them as "VIP" mode packs.
That, plus the fact they are now going to put all their effort on Medal of Honor. Nice to see that DICE supports their games... not.
@Viking34 IF your a VIP then it shouldn't matter. Your nitpicking at least the Expansion packs aren't 1500 a piece with only 3 new maps each time and some rehash
You know latest dlc was actually not on disc and required to be downloaded meaning it was all new and had to be developed. And your precious infinity ward is over. Everyone is leaving, there will never be another modern warfare ever again. That is fact.
"my precious infinity ward." lol. i love how you think im a CoD fanboy. ive never played mw2 or any CoD online. i only play single player CoD as i dont want to deal with all the hackers/campers/all around shitty community that comes with playing those games online.
im just stating, making a big deal out of the VIP code when it is essentially unlocking stuff ALREADY ON THE DISC is dumb. new maps should be free to the VIP code holders... and they wont be. EA's definition of a VIP is letting someone play content for free that they should have been able to play anyway from day 1.
So... is this instead of getting actual NEW maps in a timely fashion?
And will the four maps be split across the different game modes - thus adding only one; maybe two new maps to the mode I actually play?
This game is still far more enjoyable than MW2 overall, but awful lag, the insult of 'VIP' content, and now a potential 6 month wait for new content? That does not bode well, DICE.
buddy, that was an update for onslaught mode and other shit. it was not for the map packs. you never downloaded an update for map pack 1 or 2 and you didnt for 3. where was the update when map pack 1 and 2 came out... oh right, THERE WASNT ONE.
I'm a video game fighter at heart; grew up playing Street Fighter, Tekken, Soul blade, King of Fighters, etc. Never really gave FPS games a chance...didn't care either..."But I got to tell ya when I saw my friend play BFBC2 was SOLD! visible bullet sniper fire over distance, epic voice overs, TANKS!!! lol, building destruction..."no" destruction damm near everything! with the best spawning system I've ever seen! I love this game haven't played a fighter since...
how much does call of duty charge for thier map packs? go look it up..youll see waw and modern warefares charge 10 bucks a pop. ea only charges for extra content. They added some maps for free. Lots of people bought vip editions of the game...not everything is vip.
