GoldenEye 64 Wii-make revealed, see Craig's Bond in action

Earlier today, IGN posted a trailer for the oft-rumored remake of the classic Nintendo 64 shooter, GoldenEye. (You've probably heard of it. You very probably spent many of your youthful nights playing it until you fell asleep.) The game is being ported exclusively to the Wii, and has received a fairly noticeable facelift during its transformation. That is to say, a figurative facelift (it's prettier!) and a literal facelift, as Pierce Brosnan has transmogrified into current Bond actor, Daniel Craig.

IGN's trailer has been pulled down by Activision, but a few wise GoldenEye fans managed to capture it while it was still up. You can check out a copy of the trailer posted after the jump. Don't worry -- we're sure any missing details will be provided in the coming, megaton-filled days.

for me its not that i hate craig or anything, its just that he's new school, and im old school. but I mean it will "appeal to a broader audience", but maybe at least feature him as an unlockable!

Luckily it's on the Wii.
With homebrew the textures can be modified to make whichever Bond you prefer.

I bet Brosnans' face is licensed and that was the only thing holding back a remake all these years.

I'm kind of excited for this, but it's on the Wii so not that much. I guess we'll see.

Am I glad they finally remade this game? YES
Am I glad its on the Wii? NO

Goldeneye was awesome when it was the only game in town on consoles. This has not aged well, and the Wii is certainly not the place to compete as an online shooter. If it was remade on the Xbox or PS3 I'd be ecstatic, but I fear this is doomed to fail before its even official.

BUT I LOVE THE NEW ONE EVEN MORE.

Nintendo had to have paid a large chunk of cash to keep this. I'm happy w/ whatever Bond they use, I prefer Craig anyways (the guy took several nut shots w/ some serious awesomeness I would have died receiving).

Activision gets even more of my money. And I dont care this time at how much.

I agree. You can argue about who the best bond is all day long. I am a huge fan of the entire series. I love Roger Moore and loathe Timothy Dalton and George Lazenby. And ultimately, in the game, you don't really see the character you are playing as all that often. Plus, how much time did you spend playing single player vs. multiplayer.

Craig or Brosnan, it doesn't matter. You know you'll be playing as Scaramanga anyway. The guy has a superfluous mammary gland, a flying car, and a freaking solar powered laser gun!

The raining level (Dam?) looks so sick.

My bet is that they had to use Craig because the studios were wanting to keep pushing it to really associate Bond with him

thanks for the downvotes - I simply meant that there was a nostalgia factor with the original that will most certainly be lost in a full remake. Things like Daniel Craig in stead of Brosnan, exploding objects etc.

I hope there is a secret Brosnan...

This both makes me happy and very sad. I don't care for Craig.

I think that's the point. It looks to me like they specifically made it to look like the original N64 game. I don't think that's poor quality video. I think that's stylized graphics.

To me, goldeneye with revved up graphics doesn't work. This game capitalizes on nostalgia. Just Just look at how successful Mega Man 9 and 10 and NSMBW have been.

there had better not be any of those gimmicky point and shoot wii controls. it's so not realistic and unnecessarily hard.

oh yea, in real life when i want to turn i just point my head towards the edge of the screen.

Oh wait... but when you shoot a gun in real life, you don't move a reticle onscreen with a joystick and press a circular button, you point the muzzle of your gun at what you want to shoot and pull a trigger. Sounds like a wii mote to me.

Have you ever played Metroid Prime on the wii? One of the best FPS experiences to be had.

Not being the biggest motion control fan, I'm right there with you. I'd rather just play it on my 360 or PS3.

This comment speaks volumes to all the people saying that it's stupid to restrict it to the wii. This is clearly why it's being done this way. I'm sure nintendo paid a boatload to get exclusivity on this title. This is Nintendo appealing to core gamers. Something many of you PS3 and Xbox fanboys have been complaining about for a long time.

You have to take into consideration that Nintendo owns it partially.

This is pretty much like whining at Nintendo for not putting Zelda on the PS3 and 360.

Game looks good, but it's a very stupid idea to replace Brosnan.

I was expecting just a remake (like, crisper graphics) of the original. Not a spin-off type. looks interesting though.

@Goaliegeek It's not a spin-off just rebuilt...and it has crisper graphics!

It was the personal aspect that made it a great game, and now with everything moved online, you just have unimpressive graphics and old controls.

cool. Just seemed like a spin off. guess I cant remember much of the game back then.
